Devourers are large worms that reside in the Corruption.
Like the Eater of Souls, Devourers impede the player's progress through The Corruption and will often knock them into chasms. When there are multiple Eaters of Souls and a Devourer on the screen, getting back out of the chasm can prove difficult, even with a Grappling Hook. The best way of killing a Devourer is the same as killing any other worm, using weapons that can hit multiple enemies simultaneously like a Flail or Blade of Grass.
It drops loot from a head segment, therefore it can get stuck deeply in blocks.

[edit] History
- 1.1: All segments now share a life counter, instead of individual life counters for all segments. Previously Head, Body and Tail had 40, 60 and 100 health, respectively.
- 1.0.5: No longer chases players out of the corruption.
- Pre-Release: Introduced.
