[edit] Despawning
Drops on the ground (i.e. not in your Inventory or a storage unit) upon logout of the save file will despawn (disappear). At that point, it is impossible to reacquire them. It is also rumored that item despawn will occur if a maximum number of drops is reached on-screen or perhaps throughout the world. In this instance, the items that have remained on the ground for the longest amount of time may vanish as new items are added to the screen. This theory has been confirmed through exploiting the infinite chest duplication bug. There can only be 200 "loose" items on the world at any given time.
