The Mechanical Worm is used to summon The Destroyer (a harder version of the Eater of Worlds). It can only be used at night; attempting to use it during the day will do nothing and will not consume the item. Unlike Worm Food, it can be used outside of the Corruption. It can be crafted on Mythril Anvil. Using another Mechanical Worm while The Destroyer is already spawned will result in instant death or in rare occasions nothing will happen. It can also be used in a world without hardmode activated.

[edit] Notes
- It is worth noting that, much like the Mechanical Skull, it has a wind-up key on the back of the worm. As mentioned in the Mechanical Skull article, many toys require such key to be operational.
- Unlike the Worm Food, the Mechanical Worm can be used outside of the Corruption. But it can only be used at night, and if day comes before you have defeated The Destroyer, it will despawn.
