Paladins are rare, resilient Hardmode enemies that spawn in the Dungeon after Plantera is defeated. They throw hammer projectiles rapidly that can pass through blocks and inflict extreme damage. Paladins only spawn in Dungeon areas with Brick Walls.

Paladins are immune to knockback, as well as the Poisoned, Venom, and Confused debuffs.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • Although Paladins have a visual height of 4 tiles, they can pass through 3 tile-tall corridors.
  • Paladins cannot throw hammers while moving.
  • While their hammers can go through walls, they won't attack you if you're not visible. Standing "near a corner", though, will make them attack you.
  • In the Mobile version, Paladins are not immune to confusion, and therefore, the paladin can act weird when confused.

Tips[edit | edit source]

  • Paladins are exceptionally tough enemies. Their projectile attack is unusually versatile for a non-boss enemy and inflicts extreme damage. A Paladin has more health than Skeletron, immunity to knockback and high defense, making it difficult to kill and dangerous to try to slip past or ignore.
  • The paladin will not throw its hammer if you are close to him. A good strategy to kill it is to stay as close to it as possible while hitting him with any kind of melee weapon (a sword that allows you to attack in the opposite direction of where you're going, such as the Terra Blade, is highly recommended)
  • Paladins are less likely to target players outside their line-of-sight, or players at higher elevations (it generally cannot fire above 45 degrees). They lack the ability to throw their hammers downward as well.
  • Fighting it in hallways is not recommended, as this leaves no room for dodging, and often leads to a quick death.
  • A Paladin's attack will be interrupted if it takes damage, making fast weapons more effective at keeping it suppressed.
  • The damage taken from touching a Paladin is much weaker than its thrown hammers, unless in Expert mode.
  • A safe way to attack and kill paladins is to stand behind a tall wall they can't jump over, and use weapons such as the Grenade Launcher, Proximity Mine Launcher, or Yoyos. Minions can be considered, too. Just don't get near a corner or they will attack you!
