Not to be confused with Spectral armor.

Spectre Armor is a late-game Hardmode armor set. The set has two variants of headgear: The Spectre Mask and the Spectre Hood. Crafting the set with one headgear requires 324 Chlorophyte Ore and 54 Ectoplasm; for both headpieces, 396 Ore and 66 Ectoplasm are needed.

Wearing a full Spectre armor set causes small white orbs to manifest whenever the player hits an enemy with a magic weapon. What these orbs do depends on the headgear variant chosen. The Spectre Mask causes the orbs to act as homing projectiles, while the Spectre Hood causes the orbs to travel to a player, healing them.

Spectre Mask:

  • Homing orbs (set bonus): Dealing magic damage spawns orb projectiles on impact that home in on nearby enemies, or the same enemy. Orb damage is 1/3 the damage dealt by the magic weapon fired.
  • Maximum mana boosted +60
  • Mana usage reduced -13%
  • Magic damage and critical chance boosted +5%

Spectre Hood:

  • Life steal orbs (set bonus): Magic damage dealt by the player spawns healing orbs that fly to the player, restoring health by 20% of damage done (dealing 50 magic damage heals 10 health). In team multiplayer, the player with the lowest health is healed instead, rather than necessarily healing the player that caused the orbs to appear.
  • All magic damage dealt by the player is reduced by 40%.

  • If an attack doesn't do at least 3 damage while the Mask is equipped, a damaging orb will not appear.
  • If an attack doesn't do at least 5 damage while the Hood is equipped, a healing orb will not appear.
  • Wearing the full set with either helmet makes the player semi-transparent. Also, if player is riding Minecart, it will also appear semi-transparent.
  • Console only.png The Spectre Hood has the old statistics increasing magic damage and also does not have the 2 hearts per second cap on healing.
  • Dyes aren't too much visible on a full set of spectre armor because it makes the player semi-transparent.

  • Multi-hit spells (such as the Heat Ray and Magnet Sphere) work extremely well against hardmode bosses like The Destroyer as well as when combating Hardmode invasions, such as the Pirate Invasion, a Solar Eclipse, and the Pumpkin Moon and Frost Moon events. Against large amount of targets, the set bonus effects work to their maximum effect, due to the combined effect of the penetration.
  • Casting long-lasting spells (i.e. the Nimbus Rod, Rainbow Gun, etc.) is a great way to make effortless use of the set bonuses, as each raindrop counts as a new magic projectile and triggers the effect with every hit. During invasions, this effect is almost constant. With the Spectre Hood, this means that you can provide a constant flow of healing, and for the Spectre Mask, there is an endless barrage of missiles that seek out and attack several enemies at once.
  • Using the Wasp Gun or Bat Scepter is extremely effective, as the constant and numerous homing hits activate the effect nonstop. Most effective against large groups of enemies.
  • Spectre Hood: Using mana potions causes magic weapons to be almost completely worthless for a few seconds after use, due to the Mana Sickness debuff. Finding alternative sources of mana is crucial for maxing out effectiveness of the Spectre Hood. Using Magic Cuffs, which provide large amounts of mana while taking damage, and the Celestial Magnet, which increases the pickup range for mana stars specifically, are two very useful items for this exact purpose. If the player is in possession of both, crafting the Celestial Cuffs is the best option. Using high-damage weapons is a very effective way of maxing out the healing effect, and the Inferno Fork is especially useful for this purpose, since it does high damage and hits multiple enemies multiple times over a large area.

  • "Spectre" is another word for ghost or spirit.
  • The Spectre Mask may be inspired by the 16th century's plague doctors. A similar item is Crowno's Mask.
  • The female version of the armor, along with having different textures, is slightly more blue than the male version.

  • Spectre Hood no longer increases mana usage.
  • 1.2.3:
    • Spectre Mask introduced.
    • Spectre Hood now reduces damage by 40% and increases mana usage by 20%.
    • Life-steal ratio of the Spectre Hood set increased from 8% to 20%.
    • Increased defense of existing pieces:
      • Spectre Hood defense returned to 6 (from 4).
      • Spectre Robe defense returned to 14 (from 12).
      • Spectre Pants defense increased to 10 (from 8).
  • 1.2.2:
    • Healing capped at 2 hearts per second.
    • Flame traps no longer trigger the set bonus.
  • Frost Staff will now trigger Spectre's set bonus.
  • 1.2.1:
    • Life-steal ratio of the set bonus reduced from 10% to 8%.
    • Added requirement of Chlorophyte Bars to craft.
    • Reduced defense:
      • Spectre Hood defense decreased from 6 to 4.
      • Spectre Robe defense decreased from 14 to 12.
      • Spectre Pants defense decreased from 11 to 8.
    • Traps no longer trigger Spectre Armor.
    • Spectre Armor does less healing each time the same projectile deals damage.
  • Notes from the Magical Harp now count as magic and should trigger the spectre set bonus.
  • 1.2: Introduced.
