Turtle Armor is one of the four hardmode end-game armor sets (the three others being Spectre Armor, Shroomite Armor, and the improved Beetle armor). It is very powerful, being the second highest defense granting armor set in the game (Behind the Beetle armor with the Beetle Shell). Although it empowers melee attacks, its primary purposes are survival and tanking. It is created from Chlorophyte Bars and the shells of Giant Tortoises.

There are no variations of this set available, and if the player chooses to wear it, they should orient themselves towards melee specialization, as well as maximizing defense via accessory reforging. This is because the player wearing it will be drawing monster attention towards themselves for the most part, granting a tanking status while everyone else can be largely ignored in case of playing with friends.

A full set grants also a vastly amplified thorns effect, powerful enough to deliver the full damage the enemy would otherwise give to a non-armored player after the player is injured. Also, when wearing the full set in the Social slots (or in Equip slots with empty Social), a turtle shell appears on the player's back (much like the Leaf Blower and Heat Ray backpacks). This disappears temporarily in mid-air if wings are equipped.

Crafting this set requires a total of 54 Chlorophyte Bars (324 pieces of Chlorophyte Ore) as well as 3 Turtle Shells.

Tips[edit]

  • The best tanking accessories are Paladin's Shield for reducing damage to your friends, Frozen Turtle Shell for extra defense in low health, and Ankh Shield which grants you immunity to most debuffs such as Broken Armor, which can be very helpful in hardmode fights.
  • You can combine chest with Chlorophyte Mask and Hallowed Greaves for increased damage perks, but at the cost of losing the Thorns effect and some defense.
  • The passive thorns effect can be very convenient as many monsters - especially weak ones - will deal more damage to themselves than to you, effectively killing themselves. This, when combined with an item which prevents knockback (such as the Cobalt Shield), sometimes allows the player to completely ignore monsters.
  • The set's thorns buff will also stack with a Thorns Potion.

Notes[edit]

  • As of version 1.2.3, it is no longer possible to defeat the Dungeon Guardian in one hit with reflected damage, as the Guardian's attack has been reduced to 1000 while his health remains at 9999. However, you can still defeat this the Dungeon Guardian with this method though it will take an extremely long amount of time with very little reward.
  • Blue and Silver Dye makes the armor have spots that make it look somewhat like a Glowing Mushroom.
