Thanks![]

Thanks for the praise! I'm starting work on an attempt at a similar revamp for Blocks in my userspace - let me know if you have any ideas on that one! I can't promise I'll always be around to keep stuff updated, but at least it all looks nice for now :) --Crystallized (talk) 13:59, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

I'll keep it in mind! :-) NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 18:51, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks[]

Thanks for your praise on the admin page. This conflict occurred a long time ago and I'm not sure if it would still be an issue, but I'm still wary of engaging in experimentation that would involve a lot of page saves. You're doing a great job yourself -- it's good to have someone else here who seems to care about the quality of the content and its presentation. Equazcion (talk) 15:33, 29 Mar 2014 (UTC)

I've been in similar situations myself, so I can relate. Thank you for you kind words - as you suggest I do indeed try to make changes that improve both content and style. That is unfortunately not always an easy task, and frequently I see that I've made the wrong decision or that a problem could have been solved in a much better fashion. Most problems can however be eliminated when everyone works together, so don't hesitate with letting me know if I do anything you strongly disagree with. Gif making[]

Hi!
Gif making is easier than it looks, you just need to get the gif parts (the images) and some program to put them together. I extract the images directly from the terraria "Images" folder, using the XNB Exporter to convert them to pngs, then I edit them using Gimp. As a compiler I use, for small gifs, this page "http://gifmaker.me/", just upload the images and the page makes the rest, for bigger ones (more than 30 images) just use Gimp: paste (as a new layer) every image over the last one (just like how cartoons were made in the past, more or less); also, keep an eye on the animation speed, terraria uses 150 miliseconds on almost everything. Oh, and sometimes you have to be creative, for example on the placed snails gif Placed Snails I put four images per movement to make it look like it's falling faster. If you have more questions feel free to ask again, good luck with gifs!

Also, i'm not really doing that much, just some template editing and image adding but thanks for the compliments!, you are also putting quite a lot of valuable effort in the wiki BTW. I started because lately I have a lot of free time and I wanted to improve my written english. I felt some pages where not organized and the existing templates weren't enough, and the gif making is just for fun. Thank you for your contributions too! — Preceding unsigned comment added by OdnHarfagre (talkcontribs) at 22:54, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

There are many good tips here, thank you for giving such a throughout reply! Surely I should be able to churn out some hefty .gifs sooner or later! If there's anything I likewise can help with then do ask! Oh, and remember to sign your comments with ~~~~ :-) NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 18:21, 13 April 2014 (UTC)

Just saying...[]

I am not addressing the outdated wiki page thing you stated on my talk page, I just thought I would help a minor bit as I had some spare time, I dont really have all the time to edit every page with the pc-console only tag and to add the console version history. Sorry if you were misleaded by that. - WelchDrew (talk)

Animation Speed[]

Well... I use the same system: I placed some furniture, specifically the Blend o' matic, a solidifier, an extractinator and some critter cages, and then compared them to the gifs I made (I also tested wings with this); the closest speed was 150 (I like numbers ending in 5 or 0, so I chose 150). I may be wrong, but I think is close enough. OdnHarfagre (talk) 13:55, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Ah okay, figures :-) NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 22:36, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
I like numbers ending in 5 or 0 too. I don't have a log-in, though. --nologin— Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.169.163.175 at 00:22, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
If only politics had been like this. By the way, comments are signed with ~~~~, even if you don't have an account (this will sign with your IP). You can make an account here. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 14:54, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Template improvements[]

Hi!
I'm trying to improve the templates, but I would like a second opinion before actually changing them. These are the changes I've planned, what do you think about them?
Thanks in advance for your help! OdnHarfagre (talk) 21:27, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

I actually had a look at them the other day. I think they look very good; giving them a collapsible function will in my opinion greatly improve them. Currently they add a notable increase to the "height" of some articles, but collapsing them will fix this. So, it's a green light from me! NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 21:49, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

fishing 9 wide surface (comment about undo)[]

Actually this is true, you need 9 wide surface to attempt fishing.

Try this... put small vertical limiters to large lake so that 2 blocks of them is underwater and 2 blocks above. try fish on that small limited area with underwater connection to rest of lake.

188.238.91.231 07:30, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

To check this I decided to do some in-game testing. After bringing the results I found to a user who can read the game code (here) it turns out a 9 wide surface isn't needed, the illusion of this being created by the game mechanics. I've added that info to the fishing article now, hopefully it should clear things up. If you don't mind I'd like you to give me some feedback of whether it requires any improvements. Tabber extension[]

Hi! I'm planning to add the tabber extension to the wiki (I think it could improve the navigational templates), but I don't really know how to do it, and since you added the Outdent template and worked on the AJAX (good work BTW!) I thought you could help me. Could I add this myself?

An example of the tabber extension.

Thanks in advance! --OdnHarfagre (talk) 23:15, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

As the first link describes the code apparently, unless I'm mistaken, has to be added to Terraria Wiki's MediaWiki:Common.css. This can only be done by admins, so I guess that's another job for 0icke0 (will make a request). I agree that tabbing looks like a neat feature.

Also, while I'm very grateful for the praise, both the copying of Wikipedia templates and my role in the AJAX process were extremely simple tasks. In the latter I was just gathering the people needed. For code/functionality/extensions you are more likely to get better support from 0icke0 or Equazcion. Don't hesitate with asking me for help though!! NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 00:40, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your support! :) --OdnHarfagre (talk) 00:13, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
Just a minor update (though I reckon you've noticed already): the request was posted here. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 20:45, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
Hi! I've been a bit busy with exams so I couldn't enter the wiki lately. I've started using the new extension on my sandbox.
Again, thanks for your support! :) -OdnHarfagre (talk) 10:25, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Outdated image[]

Hello. I've been changing links from File:HoneyLiquid.png (a candidate for deletion) so that they point to the new version, File:Honey.png and have managed to clear the list except for one. Your page at User:NoseOfCthulhu/Sandbox2 uses the old version. I don't edit namespace files except for talk pages, even when they're sandbox pages. If you would be kind enough to make that change, then the old version (the one that is up for deletion) will be an orphan file with no pages pointing to it. Thank you. SWAdair (talk) 04:34, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

I see. I've changed the name now, so that's the end of HoneyLiquid. Thanks for letting me know. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 08:34, 6 February 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for such a quick response. Have a good day. SWAdair (talk) 14:29, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Crimson Desert Spirit image request[]

This wiki lacks an image for the crimson variant of the Desert Spirit. Will you please upload one? --Superwill771 (talk) 17:05, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

It doesn't seem like Corruption and Crimson variants of the Desert Spirit is actually a thing. For starters I'd expect different variants to actually be separate monsters (like Mummies and Ghouls), but NPC IDs only lists a single Desert Spirit entry. The game's NPC_533.xnb file also holds the purple sprite only. And finally, I checked a Crimson Underground Desert in-game, and only the purple variant appeared. It doesn't seem the editor who added this info (five years ago!) was malicious, so I assume it was just some kind of misunderstanding. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 20:42, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

How many new forest and snow biome backgrounds were introduced in 1.4?[]

I wonder how many new forest and snow backgrounds are introduced in 1.4. The history section says that 27 new surface backgrounds, but I think it is more. I broken down how many backgrounds are added to each biome, but I left a '???' to forest and snow. --Superwill771 (talk) 12:55, 9 September 2020‎ (UTC)

I'm not sure either; unfortunately I'm not very good at reading the game code, so I'd have a hard time finding the answer by trying to interpret that. I also think it would be difficult to try determine it by looking at the game files. I see however that Eraloiz has managed to create many biome backgrounds by assembling such game files, so you can probably get a better answer from him. Alternatively I suppose a viable method would be to simply use a World Globe in-game (ideally also while "empowering" your character with TShock commands or similar to make travel between biomes easier) and perhaps even create missing wiki images through screenshots. I reckon you've already thought of this yourself, though. I'm sorry I can't provide a better answer than this. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 01:33, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

Do Quarantine Tunnels for containing the Evil work in 1.4?[]

Title, basically. On the page Maintaining World Purity, your image (linked below) is used to showcase the tunnels containing the Hallow. Do you know if this still works in 1.4? I'm about to enter hardmode so I want to block off the majority of the land from the Crimson. GTink (talk) 23:54, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
