The Beetle Armor is considered to be a step up from the Turtle Armor set, granting better defense and melee perks. It is one of the 3 endgame armors available for the PC version, along with the Shroomite armor and the Spectre armor.

Two different variations of the beetle chest piece can be crafted, scale mail and shell. The scale mail is more suited for melee players focused on dealing damage and the shell armor is ideal for players who wish to tank damage. Depending on which chest piece is worn a special stacking buff will be given to the player. To benefit from either of these buffs the helm and leggings will need to be worn in the equip slot.

Scale Mail:

  • Gain the Beetle Might buff.
  • Increases melee damage and speed by 10%, stacks up to three times for a max increase of 30%.
  • Stacks are gradually gained while damaging foes.
  • Stacks are reset when combat ends.

Shell:

  • Gain the Beetle Endurance buff
  • Reduces damage taken by 15% when not taking damage, stacks up to three times for a max reduction of 45%.
  • When hit by an attack one stack is lost.

This armor has a special effect where a max of three beetles can fly around the player. With each stack of the buff one beetle will appear.

Crafting the full set (not including the other chest piece variant) from scratch requires 18 Beetle Husks, 54 Chlorophyte Bars (or 324 pieces of Chlorophyte Ore), and 3 Turtle Shells.

Crafting all four pieces from scratch requires 26 Beetle Husks, 78 Chlorophyte Bars (or 468 pieces of Chlorophyte Ore), and 4 Turtle Shells.

Notes

  • The Beetle Armor set (as of 1.2.3) is the first and only armor set to have multiple chest piece variants as opposed to helmet variants.
  • While the Beetle Shell is equipped without any vanity, wings will not appear unless the player is in mid-air, similar to the Turtle Armor and some items such as the Leaf Blower or Heat Ray.
  • As of the release of 1.2.3, all 3 endgame armor pieces have at least 2 variants.
  • When you have Beetle Might Buff from the Scale Mail and you switch to the Shell, the stacks from the Scale Mail will be transferred over to the Shell, causing you to have Beetle Endurance Buff with the same amount of stacks. (Tested on Single Player) (Not sure if bug)
  • When female characters wear Beetle Scale Mail it uses the same image for Beetle Shell, but with the beetle husk on back.

Tips

  • The Beetle Armor is not entirely an upgrade from Turtle armor. The Turtle armor strikes a nice balance between offense and defense, whereas the Beetle Armor will sacrifice one for the other and lacks the damage reflection from Turtle's set bonus.
  • It is possible to reach a Defense of over 100 without buffs by wearing the full set with the Shell and five accessories reforged to Warding, provided the accessories provide a total of at least 7 extra points of defense without modifiers.
  • The Beetle Armor with Beetle Scale Mail is best for invasions and bosses, as there are many opportunities for your Beetle Might buff to rise.
