    Request to be added

Hello. I am a long time player of Terraria Desktop, and I have much experience with it. I would love to be added as an editor so I can help update the wiki with new and changed items and features from the 1.4 update. I have already been working on updating the upcoming features with new information, and I would be glad to continue to quickly bring out accurate update information. Request to be added

Hi, I'd like to be added to the editors list. I've been helping around the wiki recently creating item pages, copyediting, and reporting vandalism. I play Desktop and have basic familiarity with the source code, so I can pull up information about item functionality, vendor sales, etc without too much trouble. On the wikicode side, I've learned how to use a good number of the standard templates+infoboxes and I'm hoping to pick up more through practice. You can check my contributions page to see where I've helped out, or contact me in the Discord under the same username. Cheers! Breathlessblizzard (talk) 22:38, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

I've added you. Thank you so much for your help :) – Ferretwings (talk) 23:06, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

    Request to be added

Hello! I'd like to be added to the editors list. I mostly play mobile, but can readily test pretty much anything on the Console version (latest version, Xbox One), and will sometimes be able to test some Desktop things. I'll hopefully be able to be editing a lot more actively, and am currently working to achieve consistency, especially with the flood of 1.4 articles. Thanks for your consideration! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 17:57, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

    Request to be added

Hi! I'd like to be added to the editor's list. I have (what I'd like to think) an extensive knowledge of most Terraria Desktop version mechanics, as well as features and content. I've joined pretty recently in order to help with 1.4 content additions, and I helped to start adding happiness quotes for the happiness quotes project to most NPCs, as well as preparing to start the DPS project (to find the average DPS of weapons). Thank you for reading, no hard feelings if I don't make it. DanZeMan (talk) 12:49, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello, my name is Trialsphere, I am constant player of the game and have over 340 hours on Nintendo Switch. I know the game mechanics well, tend to recognize glitches fairly quickly when they pop up, and know most of the tips or tricks a player might need. I would love to be added as an editor so I can help add information that might have been missed on pages and help the terraria community as much as I can. I thank you for your time and consideration. Curse-produced videos

It appears Curse has begun producing Terraria videos for embedding at the wiki.

This was discussed a long time ago as a possibility, and from what I remember, there was some general agreement in the community that we'd go ahead with including these in mainspace (only Curse-produced videos, not player submissions).

I'm going to assume that this first video, posted to Ankh Shield, is the promised sample video. If anyone has feedback on the video and the prospect of including more of them on other pages, feel free to make your thoughts known here. In the meantime, let's please leave the video up on that page. Thanks. Equazcion (talk) 10:07, 5 Jan 2016 (UTC)

The quality of the video is good, so I'm happy with that. However it contains multiple mistakes: Cobalt Shields can not be found in underground chests, Blindfold does not drop from Light Mummies or Pixies and Armor Polish does nor drop from Rusty Armored Bones, Angler Fish or Werewolves. I hope for the next videos some more fact checking is done. --0icke0 (talk) 11:26, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Hate to be an agitator, but I was under the impression these videos were going to be on guides, not necessarily in main articles. The production quality is good, errors aside, but part of my reason for wanting them to be guides was so that the videos seemed necessary to explain the more complex or in-depth topics that guides tackle. I'm not recommending it be moved, because the Ankh Shield is suitably complex to need a video explanation, but I'm just hoping this doesn't mean we'll eventually have minute-long videos on sand and dirt.
I also realize this is probably a bit too much to ask, but for multiple reasons, I wish someone here had been contacted before the video was added to a main page. I mean, as it is now, it needs to be replaced, but it's put us in kind of an awkward position to go back and remove it again. Gearzein (talk) 12:49, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Contacting us first was the original plan, but that seems to have gotten lost along the way. User:CrsDash had asked to contact me via email (brief discussion), but I never got anything. My suspicion is that my suggestion that these things be discussed on-wiki wasn't taken well. Which is sort of understandable... they may not have wanted to deal with whatever drama might ensue.
Either way, due to the errors that have been pointed out in the video, I think we're pretty justified in removing it from the article -- at least until it's fixed. Hopefully Dash will let us know if/when that happens, and maybe do at least some coordinating with the community before making the next video. Equazcion (talk) 12:12, 6 Jan 2016 (UTC)
Also just wanted to point out another little error in the video: It implies that the Ankh Shield was added in 1.3, but it was actually added in 1.2. Equazcion (talk) 12:19, 6 Jan 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I'm User:Aengelmann, the new(ish) head of the Curse video team. With the new year, we are making a push to collaborate with a bunch of Curse based wikis to create video content for each wiki. As your team has pointed out, there should probably be some sort of process in place so we can reduce errors, and cover content relevant for the community. I'd love to discuss that process with your team. What works best for you guys? Is the wiki best for you, or could we do something like Skype? Thanks! Aengelmann (talk) 22:44, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

At last recollection, there was consensus among the acting admins that handling it here on the wiki was best. I personally believe that if creating content for the community is the first and foremost goal of this effort, then it's not possible without some degree of transparency. I'm not necessarily saying that this should be a matter of mass collaboration, but the majority of this wiki's contribution ultimately comes from non-staff users, and to keep them entirely out of the loop seems not only unfair but ill-advised- after all, I wasn't able to spot those errors off the top of my head. Having these discussions be publicly visible would also make it completely unambiguous that these videos are being done in an official capacity, and that the presence of videos on some pages is not an invitation for individual users to promote themselves.
This is entirely personal opinion, though, and I'm willing to hear points to the contrary. There are certainly negative points to having this all take place in a publicly visible space, but I believe those aspects to be outweighed by the positives. Gearzein (talk) 03:54, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
I understand where you are coming from, and also think it's important to keep the wiki involved in the pre-production to keep things relevant and accurate. The transparency isn't much of a concern for me, however the technical issues are. Our scripts usually go through a bunch of revisions, have comments and notations on certain parts, are often worked on by multiple people simultaneously, and are linked in with our project management software. I'm not sure if hosting the script on the wiki could handle all that without trouble. We typically use google docs for our script writing process. Is that something you guys are open to? Could we post a link to the script on the wiki somewhere and allow members to look it over, suggest edits, and approve before production begins? I think that could be a good mix of transparency for wiki members, and solving technical issues on our end.
That being said, any discussion before pre-production begins (e.g. figuring out what topics to cover, what takes precedence for videos) could be handled here on the wiki completely.Aengelmann (talk) 14:34, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
That's what I had in mind, yeah. I don't think the script should be written by committee, nor does it even seem necessary for the wiki at large to have access to a near-finished script. I mostly mean the broad strokes where a subject is chosen, a loose framework is laid out, and facts are checked. Gearzein (talk) 02:49, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
That works for us. We were thinking for a new video to do a "Cellphone Build Guide" similar to the Ankh Shield video. We thought it might be handy as it's one of the most complicated items to get in the game. However we are open to topic suggestions. Do you (or anyone else for that matter) have any thoughts on topics that'd be appropriate for video?Aengelmann (talk) 17:29, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

    Video scripts for review:

Phone Crafting Guide Video - The first draft of the Cell Phone Crafting Guide Video is open for review. We will keep it open for a week (until Feb 8th). Please look it over for errors and add any comments you see fit. Thanks! Aengelmann (talk) 19:28, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

The Cell Phone script has been updated, and a final version can be viewed if anyone would like to look over it. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.164.170.2
I just went through the script linked above (Phone Crafting Guide Video) and fact checked it line by line. I changed one minor error in the Radar section: wooden *crates* (not chests) can be obtained by fishing. Something bothered me about the section regarding where the Magic Mirror could be found, and I finally realized what it was. The wiki article was slightly confusing and that made it into the script. I have corrected the article so it is more precise, and then updated the script to reflect this. Basically, there is no need to specify underground jungle as that is already contained in the previous mention of underground and cavern layers. The rest of the script passes fact checking with flying colors. To me, it looks good to go. Thank you for taking the time and effort to produce these videos, and thank you very much for involving us in the process. SWAdair (talk) 20:00, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
Here is a link to the completed Cell Phone Video. It is set for a tentative release on Monday 3/7. Please take a look, and let us know if anything seems inaccurate. Thanks! [1] 21:53, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
Great video! Everything looks accurate and very well done. Thank you. SWAdair (talk) 17:26, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

    Using old file versions

Is it possible to use an old version of a png file? An editor tried to show what the old Nazar sprite looked like, but since the older version is now archived, is it inaccessible? Ferretwings (talk) 02:27, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

I think that if you want to use the old nazar sprite and put it in an article, you would have to make a new file in upload file. I think you could download the old sprite from the Nazar if you really want to, it's still in there. P.S. I'm bad with links, I wanted to make it say Nazar File, but you have to click the image, I guess. Mythteller (talk) 15:52, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

Summoning Plantera on Mobile and Console

I looked through the edit history of Plantera, and apparently somebody tested both mobile and console, and found that all 3 mechanical bosses must be defeated in order to summon Plantera. Can this be confirmed? --Ferretwings (talk) 15:26, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

In Mobile Version, you just need to defeat 1 mechanical boss to spawn Plantera Bulb. Jonhof04 (talk) 19:47, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
When was the last time you summoned Plantera for the first time on a new world? –Ferretwings (talk) 15:01, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

    New Guide:Getting_Started Videos.

    Hey,

I've recently noticed that the videos in the Guide:Getting_Started (which you can find here) are extremely outdated, and people might get confused. Is there any way someone can make some new videos for them?

Yep, thats all. -Brian (talk) 00:13, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Edit War with Deadly Sphere Staff

An editor insists that the Deadly Sphere Staff isn't a post-Plantera weapon. However, the enemy that drops it (Deadly_Sphere) is a post-Plantera enemy. Neither of them have been added to "Post-Plantera entities". I need somebody to help us settle this. -- Ferretwings (talk) 03:24, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

    Hardmode tag

I added a "hardmode" tag to {{item infobox}}. Eventually this can be used to distinguish hardmode vs. pre-hardmode items more easily, eg. via automatic DPL lists (like on swords), and/or some distinctive infobox coloring. Right now it just places items into Category:Hardmode-only items.

I went on an initial bot-tagging spree to get this Hardmode tag on pages -- however, since there's nothing all that distinctive about Hardmode articles yet, this was a bit inaccurate. Some pages were missed, and some pre-Hardmode items got the tag erroneously. Feel free to correct these manually if you should come across them and feel inclined (add or remove "hardmode = yes" in item infoboxes). Equazcion (talk) 20:44, 5 Mar 2016 (UTC)

    Plantera glitch

So I have a world on console where I defeated Golem (I had Picksaw) and THEN defeated mechanical bosses, and Chlorophyte had started spawning, but no bulbs would appear. Any help? --Perplepotatoe (talk) 16:47, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

To clarify, you've defeated the Wall of Flesh, Golem, and the 3 Mechanical Bosses? —Ferretwings (talk) 17:22, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

    The Miscellaneous page

I am in the process of updating the Miscellaneous page, but a thought occurred to me. What is the purpose of this page? We have a page for Bars and Potions and Paint, etc. Is it merely a list of everything that isn't an accessory, weapon, or piece of armor? There is no header paragraph on the page to explain what is to be listed there. Does anybody remember why this page was made? –Ferretwings (talk) 01:37, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

The continued existence of that page is one of several deep institutional problems with the wiki's old means of categorization (read: none). It can't really be gotten rid of because it's linked on the front page, and that needs a much bigger redesign than most of us are able or willing to commit to. I'd say that updating it is a lost cause- you'd be better off trying to group items together in a way that makes more sense until all those items actually fit in one. It's not possible for any item on this wiki to just have no sortable properties. Gearzein (talk) 04:47, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
It is only used on the main page. So maybe just remove all categories that are already linked to on the main page (Dye, Paint, Bars, Potions and Pets). --0icke0 (talk) 10:07, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
That would make more sense. I'll go ahead and remove everything that has already been linked to. –Ferretwings (talk) 13:10, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

    Displaying changes in crafting recipes

When an update changes a crafting recipe (for example, the Campfire now requires only 10 wood), I'm wondering if it would make more sense to simply place a pc icon next to the new amount, and place the console and mobile icons next to the old amount. Currently, the old recipe is usually moved into a Console/Mobile section. I just used this format on the Campfire page.

    Like so: WoodWood (10 Template:Pc icon / 20 Template:Console iconTemplate:Mobile icon)

    Projectile IDs Page Revamp

So I've been gradually working on improving/updating some mass reference pages (Enemy List, for example), and Projectile IDs is next on my list so I'm here to propose a new layout idea for the page. In its current iteration it's... not particularly useful for about half the entries since so much information is missing (For example, IDs 486-489 are all just labeled "Hook" with no image or link. Turns out they come from Tendon Hook, Thorn Hook, Illuminant Hook, and Worm Hook, respectively, but in their current state in the table they pretty much mean nothing for anyone who might be looking at the page without cross-referencing the source code). Additionally some entries don't display an image of the projectile itself but rather an image of the entity that it came from, for example ID 349 is Frost Shard, a projectile used by the Ice Queen, however the image is of the entire Ice Queen NPC.

My proposal to improve the page is to incorporate a "source" column that would list the NPCs, items, or blocks that the projectile comes from, allowing for a picture of the actual projectile as it appears in the game while still maintaining clarity as to where the projectile came from (since most projectiles don't have a dedicated page of their own to link to).

An example table with a few entries of various types to demonstrate:

    Projectile Source
    Item ID
Template:Nlimg 1 Any standard Bow/Repeater using Wooden Arrows, Guide, Goblin Archer, Blue Cultist Archer
    Template:Nlimg 3 Shuriken (thrown)
    Template:Nlimg 209 Lizard Egg (pet)
    Template:Nlimg 349 Ice Queen
    Template:Nlimg 518 Pots

Edit: forgot signature, whoops. Echofire (talk) 01:27, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. --0icke0 (talk) 08:46, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
It looks great, a definite improvement. --Ferretwings (talk) 13:00, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

    Accessory "equipped" images

I noticed that "equipped" images are being added to many accessory pages. Some vanity items also have such images in both male and female variants. I'd like to edit the item infobox to have it add these images automatically, but we need a naming convention. I propose simply adding "male" or "female" to the end of the item name (instead of "(equipped)").

    Examples:

Item image Equipped male variant Equipped female variant
    Toolbelt.png Toolbelt_male.png
    Jungle_Rose.png Jungle_Rose_female.png
    Kimono.png Kimono_male.png Kimono_female.png
    Treasure Hunter costume
    (no base imaage)
    Treasure_Hunter_costume_male.png Treasure_Hunter_costume_female.png

Of course, not all equipped accessories will have both male and female variants. Gifs would be acceptable as well.
Any thoughts?    —Ferretwings (talk) 16:30, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

Fine with me. --0icke0 (talk) 09:51, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

    about templates

Hi there. Now, Im probably gonna get a big no, but, hey, ima try.

So, on this wiki [2], from what I've seen, there isn't any Template:Biome. So, I want to copy the source and make a new page on the other wiki. But I feel guilty of just blatant copying from this wiki. Should I just make one from scratch, copy it completely, copy it and make large enough changes, or should I just not bother at all? Thanks. Damag69 (talk) 19:48, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

All content on this wiki is released under a CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 license, so if you give credit you are allowed to copy it. --0icke0 (talk) 23:06, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

    Pickaxe tiers

Are the Pickaxe tiers best described at Pickaxes#Effectiveness? If they are, I'd like to add a note to the Pickaxes page. The tiers are mentioned on many pickaxe pages, but no explanation is given. —Ferretwings (talk) 19:20, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

I guess that is the best place. --0icke0 (talk) 09:18, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

    On changed textures

I feel like it makes sense to document the past textures of blocks and items somehow, preferably on the History section. Should this be added? - MinecraftPhotos4U (talk) 13:32, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Definitely. Most of the other platforms still have the old sprites. I'd love to include the old sprite in the history as well, but we could end up with 2, 3 or more sprites of each item in our Files. (Do we have a space limit on gamepedia?) One editor came up with the solution of adding a link to the sprite history. For example, the History (for Sunflower)could include the line "Sprite updated (see sprite history for old sprite). -- Ferretwings (talk) 21:01, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

About adding Wii U version on main page

Now that the Wii U version has been relesaed, shouldn't be added in the "Console" frame on the right side of the main page?

Sorry to ask, because I've no idea how to edit the main wiki page.
