    Request to be added

Hello. I am a long time player of Terraria Desktop, and I have much experience with it. I would love to be added as an editor so I can help update the wiki with new and changed items and features from the 1.4 update. I have already been working on updating the upcoming features with new information, and I would be glad to continue to quickly bring out accurate update information. Request to be added

Hi, I'd like to be added to the editors list. I've been helping around the wiki recently creating item pages, copyediting, and reporting vandalism. I play Desktop and have basic familiarity with the source code, so I can pull up information about item functionality, vendor sales, etc without too much trouble. On the wikicode side, I've learned how to use a good number of the standard templates+infoboxes and I'm hoping to pick up more through practice. You can check my contributions page to see where I've helped out, or contact me in the Discord under the same username. Cheers! Breathlessblizzard (talk) 22:38, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

I've added you. Thank you so much for your help :) – Ferretwings (talk) 23:06, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

    Request to be added

Hello! I'd like to be added to the editors list. I mostly play mobile, but can readily test pretty much anything on the Console version (latest version, Xbox One), and will sometimes be able to test some Desktop things. I'll hopefully be able to be editing a lot more actively, and am currently working to achieve consistency, especially with the flood of 1.4 articles. Thanks for your consideration! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 17:57, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

    Request to be added

Hi! I'd like to be added to the editor's list. I have (what I'd like to think) an extensive knowledge of most Terraria Desktop version mechanics, as well as features and content. I've joined pretty recently in order to help with 1.4 content additions, and I helped to start adding happiness quotes for the happiness quotes project to most NPCs, as well as preparing to start the DPS project (to find the average DPS of weapons). Thank you for reading, no hard feelings if I don't make it. DanZeMan (talk) 12:49, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello, my name is Trialsphere, I am constant player of the game and have over 340 hours on Nintendo Switch. I know the game mechanics well, tend to recognize glitches fairly quickly when they pop up, and know most of the tips or tricks a player might need. I would love to be added as an editor so I can help add information that might have been missed on pages and help the terraria community as much as I can. I thank you for your time and consideration. Displaying changes in crafting recipes

When an update changes a crafting recipe (for example, the Campfire now requires only 10 wood), I'm wondering if it would make more sense to simply place a pc icon next to the new amount, and place the console and mobile icons next to the old amount. Currently, the old recipe is usually moved into a Console/Mobile section. I just used this format on the Campfire page.

    Like so: WoodWood (10 Template:Pc icon / 20 Template:Console iconTemplate:Mobile icon)

    Projectile IDs Page Revamp

So I've been gradually working on improving/updating some mass reference pages (Enemy List, for example), and Projectile IDs is next on my list so I'm here to propose a new layout idea for the page. In its current iteration it's... not particularly useful for about half the entries since so much information is missing (For example, IDs 486-489 are all just labeled "Hook" with no image or link. Turns out they come from Tendon Hook, Thorn Hook, Illuminant Hook, and Worm Hook, respectively, but in their current state in the table they pretty much mean nothing for anyone who might be looking at the page without cross-referencing the source code). Additionally some entries don't display an image of the projectile itself but rather an image of the entity that it came from, for example ID 349 is Frost Shard, a projectile used by the Ice Queen, however the image is of the entire Ice Queen NPC.

My proposal to improve the page is to incorporate a "source" column that would list the NPCs, items, or blocks that the projectile comes from, allowing for a picture of the actual projectile as it appears in the game while still maintaining clarity as to where the projectile came from (since most projectiles don't have a dedicated page of their own to link to).

An example table with a few entries of various types to demonstrate:

    Projectile Source
    Item ID
Template:Nlimg 1 Any standard Bow/Repeater using Wooden Arrows, Guide, Goblin Archer, Blue Cultist Archer
    Template:Nlimg 3 Shuriken (thrown)
    Template:Nlimg 209 Lizard Egg (pet)
    Template:Nlimg 349 Ice Queen
    Template:Nlimg 518 Pots

Edit: forgot signature, whoops. Echofire (talk) 01:27, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. --0icke0 (talk) 08:46, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

    Accessory "equipped" images

I noticed that "equipped" images are being added to many accessory pages. Some vanity items also have such images in both male and female variants. I'd like to edit the item infobox to have it add these images automatically, but we need a naming convention. I propose simply adding "male" or "female" to the end of the item name (instead of "(equipped)").

    Examples:

Item image Equipped male variant Equipped female variant
    Toolbelt.png Toolbelt_male.png
    Jungle_Rose.png Jungle_Rose_female.png
    Kimono.png Kimono_male.png Kimono_female.png
    Treasure Hunter costume
    (no base imaage)
    Treasure_Hunter_costume_male.png Treasure_Hunter_costume_female.png

Of course, not all equipped accessories will have both male and female variants. Gifs would be acceptable as well.
Any thoughts?    —Ferretwings (talk) 16:30, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

    about templates

Hi there. Now, Im probably gonna get a big no, but, hey, ima try.

So, on this wiki [1], from what I've seen, there isn't any Template:Biome. So, I want to copy the source and make a new page on the other wiki. But I feel guilty of just blatant copying from this wiki. Should I just make one from scratch, copy it completely, copy it and make large enough changes, or should I just not bother at all? Thanks. Pickaxe tiers

Are the Pickaxe tiers best described at Pickaxes#Effectiveness? If they are, I'd like to add a note to the Pickaxes page. The tiers are mentioned on many pickaxe pages, but no explanation is given. —Ferretwings (talk) 19:20, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

I guess that is the best place. --0icke0 (talk) 09:18, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

    On changed textures

I feel like it makes sense to document the past textures of blocks and items somehow, preferably on the History section. Should this be added? - MinecraftPhotos4U (talk) 13:32, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Definitely. Most of the other platforms still have the old sprites. I'd love to include the old sprite in the history as well, but we could end up with 2, 3 or more sprites of each item in our Files. (Do we have a space limit on gamepedia?) One editor came up with the solution of adding a link to the sprite history. For example, the History (for Sunflower)could include the line "Sprite updated (see sprite history for old sprite). -- Ferretwings (talk) 21:01, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

About adding Wii U version on main page

A frost key dropped for me and it had a verry weird tag.

Earlier today i got something weird. I don't know if it was a bug, or a legitimate item. It was a frost key (not the mold), and it said "It has been cursed by a powerful jungle creature," I have a screenshot as well. Lifeandlemmons (talk) 20:50, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Once you defeat Plantera, the curse will be lifted and you can use the key to open the Frozen Chest in the Dungeon. – Ferretwings (talk) 23:24, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

    Can somebody identify this consumable:
I discovered an odd consumable known as ITEMNAME[5080], and it is a gift resembling a torch's flame. It drops this alongside some hellfire arrows, a voodoo doll, and Molten Armor. - User:Nescre, 23:56, 28 August 2016

As far as I can tell the item should not be in the game Template:Pc icon, i checked the code. Which probably means you are playing a modded version of Terraria and with that I (or probably we) cannot help you. Flisch42 (talk) 10:19, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
He appears to be a mobile user (or 3DS). I wanted to look into the APK file and find it, but I don't remember where the mobile item ids are. I really should have taken notes the last time I did that. Then again, if the item doesn't have a name, then I guess it can't be looked up. When the Zapinator was first released on 3DS, it only had an itemname (the devs fixed it in a patch). – Ferretwings (talk) 17:39, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
The next patch for 3DS might fix the bug, but I suspect it might be the Living Fire Block. But do you mean like the green present with a flame sprite? Hmmm. Perhaps you could provide an screenshot? LordofEditing (talk) 20:34, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

    Rollback

We now have a new user rights group at Terraria Wiki called "rollback". Rollback is a feature usually reserved for administrators, but many wikis (including Wikipedia) allow assigning the rollback right to ordinary non-admin users, in order to make it easier for them to deal with vandalism. We now have this ability.

Rollback allows users to revert edits, or groups of consecutive edits, with a single click. For those users who have the right, rollback links will appear next to edits in Recent Changes and several other places.

Rollback is only to be used in cases of blatant vandalism, meaning that the user who made the edit likely intended to cause damage to an article. On the other hand, when you disagree with an edit or find it factually inaccurate, while believing the user had good intentions, edit the article as usual or use the "undo" feature.

Rollback is also to be used with care, as a single click can mean substantial changes to an article. Care should especially be exercised on mobile devices, where an errant tap can easily trigger rollbacks. If you make a mistake, simply roll yourself back (rollbacks appear as regular edits in the history of an article), or use "undo".

Rollbackers who repeatedly use this tool carelessly, fail to follow the rules above, or abuse the right in any other way, will likely have their rollback rights revoked.

To start, I've assigned the right to three users based on recommendations from standing admins. If any admins have further recommendations they can feel free to contact me, which is probably something that should be done via email (use the "email this user" link that appears in the sidebar on my user page). The rollback right should be assigned to reasonably established long-term users (>3 months, as a rough baseline) who have been active, been consistently reliable in making smart, mature editing decisions, and have done good work in reverting vandalism.

Thanks to everyone for their work here, and feel free to post any questions or comments below. Equazcion (talk) 18:08, 31 Aug 2016 (UTC)

    NPCs and Party Hats

Greetings, fellows! I came to ask if we'll be able to get pixel-accurate reniditions of all the NPCs that can wear Party Hats during the major 1.3.2 event. I tried to provide some using Capture Mode, but it handles them rather strangely (although other characters work just fine in the snapshots I have taken thus far. Once again, thanks for gour considerations!--Diekonradish (talk) 18:40, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

That would probably have to be done by taking the party hat graphic from the game files and editing it into each NPC graphic. It's not terribly essential, but I guess they could be used in the table at Party, if someone wants to go to the trouble of creating them. Equazcion (talk) 19:35, 3 Sep 2016 (UTC)
I found the NPC pngs, NPC head pngs, and a png that contains all the hats. The trouble is, one would need to erase the hats that the NPCs are currently wearing. I looked at the game code, and couldn't figure out how the game does it. Maybe when I'm done with my current dpl project, I'll give it a shot. I do like the idea. – Ferretwings (talk) 20:44, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
Thank you User:4e696e6a6f795844 for handling this. It's greatly appreciated :) – Ferretwings (talk) 14:47, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

    Coins Coins, Pretty little coins.

Me, I think the default coin pictures look kind of boring. But of course, the animated versions File:CopperCoin.gif File:SilverCoin.gif File:GoldCoin.gif File:PlatinumCoin.gif might be hard on the eyes. I'm honestly not sure if that is the case, I haven't tested it. Anyone think it'd be a good idea to change all the images for coins?(for the pc version anyways) βɵωʈɵɛs (talk) 06:12, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

Just a note, the actual static coin images in use are these: . Equazcion (talk) 06:17, 4 Sep 2016 (UTC)
Thanks βɵωʈɵɛs (talk) 06:19, 4 September 2016 (UTC)
The gifs tend to be a little distracting to me; they draw my eyes to them like a magnet. It can make it difficult to read a page when my eyes keep moving toward the spinning coin. I am, of course, speaking only from my own perspective. Perhaps others do not have the same problem. – Ferretwings (talk) 17:35, 4 September 2016 (UTC)
I think any particular animation will tend to get old quickly. As the coin templates are in use on thousands of pages, seeing the same ones everywhere could become an eyesore. As Ferretwings points out, the coin animations seem especially designed to be eye-catching, which is good in the game, but bad on wiki pages, where they're not intended to be the focus of attention (and where you can't "collect" them in order to make it stop). This is just my personal opinion, and I hope others comment. Equazcion (talk) 18:13, 4 Sep 2016 (UTC)
I agree with the two previous users. In my opinion they do not add to the wiki, but are distracting, because they try to catch my attention. And with the static image i find it easier to recognize which coin is meant. Flisch42 (talk) 21:12, 4 September 2016 (UTC)
I guess that settles it then? No animated coins? βɵωʈɵɛs (talk) 20:44, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
It doesn't look like it. Few decisions are ever final on a wiki though. This discussion will stay up here until the page is archived, and until then anyone can continue to comment. Even after that the idea can always be revisited. Equazcion (talk) 21:02, 5 Sep 2016 (UTC)
Yep, even reading this whole thing was hard because I was distracted by the coins. I think to some people yes, it may not be a problem but, if it bothers some people and nobody really enjoys it then I don't think it's worth it. TOTORO01 (talk) 21:13, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

    Terraria: Otherworld

In addition to the very exciting release of Terraria 1.3.3, we now have a dedicated wiki in place for Terraria: Otherworld.

There was some discussion a while ago about including Otherworld information at the main Terraria wiki, but in the end this would have been impractical.

The wiki design at Otherworld Wiki is still in progress, but if anyone wants to create content in the interim, they can go ahead and do so. Any pages or changes users make now will still be there once the design is complete.

Obviously the information on that wiki will have to be based on spoilers released by the developers for the time being, and the rules regarding speculation will have to be pretty relaxed, so go nuts (within reason).

See you there :) Equazcion (talk) 17:17, 9 Sep 2016 (UTC)

    Aggro

What is aggro? I'm not simply asking for myself, but for all those Terraria players who have never played WOW. I had never heard of the term before seeing it on this wiki. Searching this wiki returned no info, so I had to google it. Do we know the mechanics behind it, as it pertains to Terraria? Can we dedicate a page to it, as we did Use Time and other game mechanics? The WOW wiki goes into tremendous detail, but I don't know how much of it is relevant to Terraria. It appears to mean "to cause an enemy to target a particular player or minion", or is there more to it? From what I've observed, town NPCs who attack enemies (eg. Slimes who only become hostile when attacked) never receive the aggro, the aggro instead falls onto the (nearest?) player. Is that worded correctly? – Ferretwings (talk) 13:49, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

My understanding is that aggro is a character stat that determines how likely it is for a player to be targeted by whichever enemies happen to be in the vicinity. It's not as prevalent a term in Terraria as it is in some other games, because it doesn't change as often here (and because the term isn't really mentioned in-game). It's mostly affected by a couple tanking and stealth armors (eg. Turtle, Shroomite), and a couple accessory items (Psycho Knife, Flesh Knuckles). Basically anything with "enemies are more/less likely to target you" in their description. There are not very many of them, but I wouldn't object to creating a page revealing whatever can be determined about the mechanic and/or listing the relevant items and their numeric effects on the stat. ... Falling Star

Managed to get a Falling Star hitting and killing a Dark Mummy. For some reason, however, I can't get it to upload. It shows the the same error over and over again. Something about array or key.. I don't know. So I'll just put a link to Google Drive for it. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3n3qgm0kl94aDhKSmZydDZaajg

"is purchased from" vs "can be bought from"

There are areas of the wiki where some of us are trying to standardize/use the same language on all wiki pages. It can be challenging, because sometimes editors can't agree on a wordage. We have several NPC vendors, and their item pages often get edited, changing "purchased" to "bought" and vice versa. Technically, the two words are identical. The main difference is that "purchased" is more formal. In the eyes of the vendor, you are purchasing an item. I prefer the word "purchase", however if you feel differently, now is your chance to share your opinions. – Ferretwings (talk) 14:46, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

I think that saying "is purchased from" is 100% correct if it's the only way to obtain something whereas "can be bought" sounds like there are multiple ways to obtain it. "can be purchased" also works for multiple ways to obtain. TOTORO01 (talk) 02:53, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
So, Ferretwings what's the plan for the Mushroom Spear? TOTORO01 (talk) 04:55, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
Well, I am thinking, if they are both the same, then why bother changing the word? MightyDirtKing (talk) 14:55, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
To establish a "standard". Just as all the "Sprite changed" "Sprite updated" "New sprite" "New texture" and so on in the history section, are all being standardized to "Sprite updated" (I wasn't part of that transition, because I wasn't sure which sounded better... it turns out the game files call the images textures).
I realize it's just a minor thing, but if all pages conform to the same standard, there will be fewer trivial edits (maybe?). I have seen several edits where an editor will edit simply to change "purchased" to "bought" or vice versa. I usually roll my eyes and don't bother undoing the edit. But when it causes an edit war, I cannot ignore it. I will give the editing community some more time to weigh in, but right now, I'm thinking "is purchased from" sounds better than "is bought from". TOTORO01 has a point, using the word "can" implies that it can perhaps be purchased/bought from somebody else. – Ferretwings (talk) 15:29, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
For the sake of the wiki, let just go for "is purchased from". MightyDirtKing (talk) 13:04, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
This can be 2 discussions and maybe we should separate them. The first discussion should be do we want "bought" or "purchased" that is a word choice. The second one is the difference between "can be" and "is", this is a choice between meaning. In most cases "is" is the better choice, as User:TOTORO01 was pointing out (it can only be bought from one vendor and there is no other way to get it -> It is bought from). I am not voting on this, I am just trying to make a point. Flisch42 (talk) 14:16, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
Now my concern is, do we have to standarize all the "buy" things? MightyDirtKing (talk) 09:18, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
"is purchased from" seems like the way to go, for all the reasons stated above. It doesn't seem too dire though, as all forms seem clear and accurate enough, and these types of statements (sentences in the meat of an article) are going to be edited repeatedly by users who won't realize there's any standard.
Standardizing "dropped by" and "purchased from" info might better be served with a new standard section (heading), and/or a new template. But that might be a challenge, due to all the nuances of obtaining certain items.
If someone wants to edit all the current occurrences to try and standardize the language (to "is/are purchased from"), that's fine. At the same time I personally don't think this is a particularly crucial distinction worth enforcing strictly, in case that's the suggestion here. Although if there is an edit war, I'd support defaulting to "is purchased from." Equazcion (talk) 08:05, 24 Sep 2016 (UTC)

    Merchant - notes

On the Merchants page in the notes section there is one that says "At the beginning of the night, the Merchant may say "Kosh, kapleck Mog. Oh sorry, that's Klingon for 'Buy something or die.'", when "Buy SOMETHING or die" is actually translated as "vay' Daje'be'chugh vaj blHegh" in Klingon." Just wondering if this is appropriate for the notes? Not really sure what to think of it...TOTORO01 (talk) 00:11, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

(I'm guessing you meant Merchant, so I changed it for you.) I'm not sure if the note should stay, or go under Trivia. It does seem more like a trivia than a note. – Ferretwings (talk) 04:16, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I meant Merchant. Yeah I wasn't sure though, It seems that this is just whoever added the note saying what stuff is in Klingon? Not sure though TOTORO01 (talk) 05:07, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
The question here is what are notes and what is trivia. It is actually not that trivial. In my opinion notes are purely game related and trivia is outside the realm of the game. The Iron Ore has two trivia facts, the first "Iron Ore and Lead Ore are the only ores that don't have corresponding bricks" is more a Note (as it only mentions game facts), as the one below "Real iron is very malleable and susceptible to corrosion, generally making it infeasible for crafting tools. The use of iron in Terraria more closely resembles real-life steel" is good trivia. Along these lines i would put the klingon into the trivia section.
The problem i have with my own definition is, for example the trivia "The Merchant is depicted in a painting called The Merchant." (from the Merchant) should be a note, but it definitely feels more like trivia. Maybe someone has a better definition? (Or it is already defined?) Flisch42 (talk) 14:34, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Trivia is information that doesn't aid gameplay, hence it is "trivial" from a player's perspective, even if it might be of some other interest anyway. Explaining that an NPC's quote might contain a mistake (one that doesn't affect gameplay) is a trivia item. Equazcion (talk) 21:57, 23 Sep 2016 (UTC)
Thank you :-). It is kind of obvious, after you said that. I moved the notes from the merchant to the trivia section. Flisch42 (talk) 22:57, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

    arrow/bullet transforming weapons

I think it would be useful to make a page for that, I often need to know that (to know what weapon I need to buy to use my endless musket pouch/quiver), and I think I'm not alone to need thatLightg4 (talk) 17:11, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

If you go to the Endless Musket Pouch and Endless Quiver pages it states that these only work on appropriate guns or bows/repeaters acting as 1. Musket balls or 2. Wooden arrows. TOTORO01 (talk) 23:54, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I know, but theses items are more effective when an arrow/bullet transforming weapon is used. For example, if you use Daedalus Stormbow, it would be a good idea to take strong arrow to deal more damages such as the Cursed Arrow or Holy Arrow, but if you use Shadowflame Bow, due to the transforming of any arrow, the arrows can easily be replaced by Endless Quiver. Lightg4 (talk) 09:24, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
Making a "arrow/bullet transforming weapons" page looks inappropriate, because of its name, it doesn't have its official name yet. And how about its content? --IosKent (Talk Page - Contribs) 10:40, 24 September 2016 (UTC)--
May I suggest to use the note section of the endless Quiver/Musket Pouch. We do not really need a page for that, and that seems like a good place for it. Flisch42 (talk) 11:00, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
For the arrows, there are Vulcain Repeater, Hellwing Bow, The Bee's Knees, Molten Fury, Sharanga, Marrow, Ice Bow and Shadowflame Bow
For the bullets, it is slighty different because the arrows are not transformed but a projectile is added(besides the Venus Magnum), there are the Onyx Blaster and the Vortex Beater

How about we make a category instead? And is "Ammo-converting weapons" a good name? MightyDirtKing (talk) 13:13, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
    Is it ok for "Ammo-converting weapons"?--Lightg4 (talk) 13:44, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

    Vanity set and costume sets

Which price should we have labelled in the info box? should it be the whole set cost or the price per piece ( if each piece costs the same amount)? TOTORO01 (talk) 10:14, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

I would say the price for the hole set the prices per piece can be found below. Flisch42 (talk) 15:44, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

    DPS on the page "Guns"

So I just checked the wiki and I noticed this change. http://terraria.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Guns&diff=next&oldid=630043 Should we actually add this change? MightyDirtKing (talk) 13:58, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

    I don't have a problem with it. – Ferretwings (talk) 14:05, 11 October 2016 (UTC)
But my problem is, if we have to do DPS, we have to do all. MightyDirtKing (talk) 13:22, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
Well, feel free to add them to all weapons, it's not entirely "necessary", but it's very useful in the end to see which weapon does more DPS, I agree with leaving them. Frenchiveruti (talk) 15:36, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
Would it be DPS for a spray of bullets? When in the spray would it be measured?TOTORO01 (talk) 22:28, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
I believe it is just at a target dummy. Also, there are different bullets. That's why I am worried about adding DPS. MightyDirtKing (talk) 11:51, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

    Incorrect Daybroken debuff file

The current daybroken file is incorrect, it is the stardust dragon debuff's file.TOTORO01 (talk) 14:56, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

    Nevermind? I guess they're the same files? TOTORO01 (talk) 14:59, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
The debuff's icon ingame is the Stardust Dragon one due to Daybroken cannot be inflicted to players. MightyDirtKing (talk) 12:11, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
