Axes

From Terraria Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search
For other tools that can chop down trees, see Chainsaws and Hamaxes.

Axes are basic tools that a player can use to used to destroy Trees and Cacti, including their variants. They can also be used as weapons. New players will always spawn with a Copper Axe.

A tree has 500% hit points and a cactus 170% hit points. Their chopping speed is altered only by speed modifiers and nothing else.

The best prefix for any Axe is Legendary.

Achievement Timber!!.png
Timber!! • "Chop down your first tree."
Chop down a tree. Desktop VersionConsole Version

Tips[edit | edit source]

  • Axes can be reforged to increase speed of cutting down trees, which Chainsaws cannot.
  • The best prefix is Light for pre-hardmode axes and Legendary for hardmode axes. Exceptions to this rule are Meteor Hamaxe which has the same speed with Legendary modifier as Light modifier, and Shroomite Digging Claw which will cut down faster when reforged to Light.
  • The Sawtooth Shark is the only pre-hardmode chainsaw, and it takes 1.06s to cut down a tree, making it better than Meteor Hamaxe but worse than Molten Hamaxe.

History[edit | edit source]

  • Desktop 1.2: Axes no longer destroy placed wood blocks, as pickaxes do now. Waraxes added as an alternative option to chainsaws for hardmode ores
