Buffs are positive status effects granted to a player upon consuming, equipping, or otherwise activating various items. Active buffs are shown as icons below the hotbar, along with their remaining duration. Buffs are almost universally positive or at least benign effects, in contrast with Debuffs, over which the player has much less control.
Buffs can be easily activated with the buff hotkey (default B on PC), which activates all the buff-granting consumables in the player's inventory (starting from the top-left) that are not currently activated. A player is limited to 22 ( 10) active buffs and debuffs at any one point, and the leftmost buff in the bar will be deactivated if another is applied after this limit is reached. Most Buffs can be deactivated prematurely by right-clicking their icon, though those that are granted by proximity to an item will only deactivate when the player is no longer in range (see Environmental below).
Activated buffs are bound to a character, and persist as that character moves from server to server and from world to world. With the exception of those granted by Flasks, buffs are always deactivated on the player's death, though even Flasks are terminated along with the player in the Old-gen console version and . version

Notes[edit | edit source]
- A known issue with buffs & debuffs alike is visually minor but the duration timer will start one minute ahead of its intended countdown meaning once the buff/debuff reaches 2 minutes it will wait one minute extra before it counts completely by 1 minute in one second & down to seconds in another.
- This has no major impact on gameplay & is purely visual.

Footnotes[edit | edit source]
- While the effects of "Tipsy" are mostly beneficial, it is classified as a debuff, and therefore cannot be removed by right-clicking the icon. It is included in this list because it seems to satisfy the role of both a debuff and a buff.
- These buffs are automatically applied by an equipped accessory under specific conditions. They cannot be cancelled by right-click, but by removing the accessory.
