Cracked Dungeon Bricks can be found in Dungeons, or can be crafted with Dungeon Bricks at a Heavy Work Bench. Crafted Cracked Dungeon Bricks behave the same as naturally generated Cracked Dungeon Bricks, and do not drop an item upon destruction.

Cracked Dungeon Bricks behave similarly to Thin Ice and Sand, but with distinct differences from both. If jumped on, walked across, grappled to, or mined with a pickaxe, several Cracked Dungeon Bricks nearby the targeted tile, including the tile itself, may fall and be destroyed upon hitting solid ground, dropping no item. Unlike ordinary Dungeon Bricks, Cracked Dungeon Bricks can be mined with any pickaxe.

Destroying the Cracked Dungeon Bricks naturally generated in the Dungeon may reveal hidden pathways to other parts of the Dungeon that are otherwise inaccessible without proper tools, and doing so is often required to access significant portions of the Dungeon if the player is unable to mine the Dungeon Bricks.

Breaking[]

Cracked Brick will break either if the player hits it with a pickaxe, directly grapples to the block, collides with it with enough speed, or damages them with a grenade, or with a 50% chance should a falling cracked brick hit a solid cracked brick.

Player collision[]

Each tick[1], the game will perform the following steps to break any nearby cracked bricks:

  1. The game will check if the player was moving faster than 2-12 pixels per tick in both the X and Y axis prior to collision.
  2. If this is the case, the game will check if any of the blocks they were standing on are cracked bricks and allow a bottom slope (i.e., no hanging banners / furniture), and then will check where the player would have ended up if there were no blocks there.
  3. From this position, the game will if there are any cracked bricks under this hypothetical player's feet which also have no tiles above them.
  4. If so, the game will break all the cracked bricks with no tiles above them, from 24 pixels behind to 24 in front of the player's hitbox, and up to 2 tiles below the bottom of the player hitbox.

Grenades[]

All grenades in the game will destroy all cracked bricks within a ~8 block radius. This makes them, especially Sticky Grenades, ideal for removing large groups of cracked bricks.

Destruction[]

When a Cracked Dungeon Brick tile is destroyed, the 8 Cracked Dungeon Bricks around it have a 16.67*1/6 (16.67%) chance to break, except the tile directly above it, which has a 33.33*1/3 (33.33%) chance to be destroyed.

Notes[]

  • Cracked Dungeon Bricks are highlighted while under the effects of a Dangersense Potion.
  • Cracked Dungeon Bricks on the floor may conceal rectangular rooms filled with spikes or water, so care is needed when exploring the Dungeon and makes the aforementioned Dangersense Potion even more valuable.
  • Cracked Dungeon Bricks break off in significantly smaller amounts in multiplayer compared to singleplayer, causing players to take much more time to mine through blocked passages, but also slightly reducing the danger of Spike Pit Traps.
  • Using a mount to enlarge the player's hitbox may make stomping out cracked bricks easier.

History[]

Footnotes[]

  1. A tick is a time unit countable by the software. Most of Terraria's updating logic happens every tick. A tick has the length of 1/60th of a second, hence there are 60 ticks in a second and 3600 ticks in a minute.
