Debuffs

Debuffs are temporary, negative status effects, as opposed to Buffs, which affect the player positively. Once a debuff has been inflicted, the debuff's icon will display to the Desktop VersionConsole Version upper left/Old-gen console versionMobile Version3DS versionupper right of the player's window, along with a Desktop VersionConsole Version count-down timer/Old-gen console versionMobile Version3DS version icon shading, showing how much longer the debuff will be in effect. Desktop VersionConsole Version The counter will begin at one minute/second less than its listed duration and show zero during the final minute/second.

Most debuffs can only be inflicted by enemies, however it is also possible for traps to inflict some debuffs on players.

Players can inflict the following debuffs on most enemies: Confused, Cursed Inferno, Ichor Debuff, Midas, Poisoned, Venom, On Fire!, Frostburn and Shadowflame.
Old-gen console versionMobile Version3DS version Players can also inflict Bleeding on enemies via the old-gen console/mobile/3ds-exclusive Tizona. Mobile Version3DS version Players can inflict the Stunned debuff via the mobile exclusive ammunition Heart Arrow.

In general, damaging debuffs will stack: If a player is both Poisoned and On Fire!, they will take damage from both debuffs. However, Poisoned and Venom do not stack, and Poisoned will take precedence over Venom. Death always cancels any active buffs or debuffs.

Unlike buffs, Debuffs cannot be cancelled by right-clicking their icons. The Nurse can cancel debuffs at a cost of Silver Coin 50 Copper Coin per active debuff. This doesn't apply for the Potion Sickness debuff, because when trying to cancel the Potion Sickness debuff, the Nurse will not charge for recovery of the debuff and the debuff will not be canceled, but the Potion Sickness icon will disappear.
