Guide:Beating the Tutorial
|This is a Guide page.|
This means the page will walk you through a specific task, strategy, or enemy/boss fight.
This guide is a guide which walks the player through “beating” the Tutorial.
Getting Started[edit | edit source]
Once you’ve followed the initial directions to complete the start of the Tutorial, the real fun begins. Gather some decent weapons (no armor needed, as you won’t be able to die within the spawn area).
Farming the Corruption[edit | edit source]
First, you will need to either find a Suspicious Looking Eye underground, or get lenses from Demon Eyes and craft them into one at an Altar. Summon the Eye of Cthulhu and defeat him to get some Demonite Ore and Corrupt Seeds.
Now, you will need to create a Corrupted area manually. It does not matter whether it’s isolated or not, it just needs to fulfill the requirements of a biome. This could take a very long time, so going AFK is recommended for this part.
Once the Corruption has spread sufficiently, the farming can begin. Kill as many Eaters of Souls as possible in order to get Rotten Chunks, and farm Vile Mushrooms and craft them into Vile Powder. Keep farming until you have 15 Rotten Chunks and 30 Vile Powder. Once you have the required materials, make your way back to the Altar. When you get there, craft Worm Food.
The Eater of Worlds[edit | edit source]
- Craft a Light's Bane and a Campfire. The Campfire will heal you while the Light's Bane will be used to fight the Eater of Worlds.
- If you made the Corruption away from the spawn area, where you are vulnerable, make an arena and be prepared with decent armor.
Once you have defeated the Eater of Worlds, you will have many Shadow Scales to craft Demonite gear. It is recommended to keep farming the Eater of Worlds to get a full set of armor along with the Nightmare Pickaxe.
The Dungeon[edit | edit source]
This step is completely optional, but is highly recommended. But before we get anywhere, that pesky Skeletron needs to be out of the way. Presumably, you have Demonite armor, or at least Gold or Silver armor, so Skeletron should be easy. For strategies, see Guide:Skeletron strategies.
Now the Dungeon is unlocked! Besides the occasional Cursed Skull, the Dungeon should be relatively easy with your current gear. Make sure to take out all Water Candles so that enemy spawning doesn’t get too crazy. Open all chests possible and gun for the Cobalt Shield. Getting a Shadow Key is also very useful.
The Underworld[edit | edit source]
Now to face the final threat: Obsidian, the only thing that’s kept you from The Underworld! With your newly acquired Nightmare Pickaxe, you should be able to mine through the Obsidian. Be prepared for a long fall, you may even die from Fall Damage, so it’s a good idea to have either a Lucky Horseshoe or many blocks to build a staircase. It’s also a good idea to store your items in a Piggy Bank or Safe (you’ll need the Merchant to move in to buy these).
At this point, you’ll need to farm Voodoo Demons in order to get the Guide Voodoo Doll. Once you get one, save it though, because you’ll need to kill the Guide and have him respawn for this to work. Once you’ve killed the Guide, you can throw the Doll into the lava and the Wall of Flesh will summon.Verify
Starting Hardmode[edit | edit source]
If summoning the Wall of Flesh worked and you were victorious against him, Hardmode has started. This is the real tricky part. It’s almost impossible to make any progress now, but there is a way. You’ll need to keep killing the Wall of Flesh until you obtain a Laser Rifle. Once you’ve got that, you’ll need to stock up on Mana Potions, which can now be bought from the Merchant.
Your first goal will be to down The Destroyer. He’s an easy source of Hallowed Bars, and will allow you to be competent without Cobalt, Palladium, Mythril, Orchalcum, Adamantite, or Titanium with his Souls of Might. Make sure you are within the spawn area of invincibility, or else The Destroyer will be practically impossible to beat. The biggest concern for this battle is actually defeating him within the day/night cycle, before he runs away. It may be useful to use Firework Rockets, however this can be painfully time consuming as it requires you have the Party Girl in your world. A Cursed Flames spell tome or Clockwork Assault Rifle can also help immensely in the battle.
Once you’ve got the Hallowed Bars, there’s not much you can do now. You could place them or sell them, but there’s no Hardmode Anvil to craft anything with it. You could try glitching the oneVerify Demon Altar to break it twice, or maybe find a second one (also via a World Generation glitch). If you do happen to get the second Hardmode Ore, make sure to search around the world and mine them asap, because they’ll allow you to make Hallowed weapons.
If You Glitched[edit | edit source]
Kudos to you, you managed to get Mythril into the world! Progress is made. Your first goal: craft a Mythril Anvil. Once you’ve got that, your next goal is to craft a Gungnir which pierces The Destroyer and deals damage to it easily. Once you have that, it will be easy to farm it for Hallowed Bars.
The Age of Chlorophyte[edit | edit source]
All people should follow the next step. Of course, that is if you were very, very lucky and got Adamantite into your world.
If you managed to get Adamantite, your first goal will be to craft an Adamantite Forge. That will allow you to craft Chlorophyte weapons and armor. You’ll need to first create an artificial Jungle and craft a Drax, however.
- For melee players, it is recommended they use Turtle armor or Chlorophyte armor with the Chlorophyte Mask. The Chlorophyte Claymore and Chlorophyte Partisan are both good melee weapons.
- For rangers, it is recommended they use Chlorophyte armor with the Chlorophyte Helmet (due to plantera not being defeated yet, Shroomite armor is impossible to get). The Chlorophyte Shotbow and Chlorophyte Arrows are a good combo for ranged weapons.
- For mages, it is recommended, they use Chlorophyte armor with the Chlorophyte Headgear (Spectre armor is currently inaccessible to the player, as Plantera has not been defeated).
Once you’re all geared up, proceed to the next step.
Side Quest: Plantera[edit | edit source]
Completely optional side-quest. You’ll need an arena if you only have Hallowed armor, and even if you have Chlorophyte armor an arena is recommended. If possible, you can create an artificial Jungle within the spawn area of invincibility for an easy battle.
- Plantera can drop the Flower Pow, a flail weapon, good for melee fighters.
- Plantera can drop the Venus Magnum or Grenade Launcher and Rockets, good for rangers.
- Plantera can drop the Leaf Blower, Wasp Gun, or Nettle Burst, all good for mages.
- Plantera can drop the Pygmy Staff, good for summoners. It will also cause the Witch Doctor to sell more items if the player has a Pygmy Staff on them.
- Plantera will rarely drop The Axe, the best Hamaxe in the game.
Ocram[edit | edit source]
Now for Ocram. With your new gear and spawn area invincibility, the only problem that remains is dealing damage. The Venus Magnum (from earlier, if you farmed Plantera) or Megashark (requires farming in the ocean) can deal massive amounts of damage, especially if you use Chlorophyte Bullets.
Endgame[edit | edit source]
Once you’ve farmed Ocram sufficiently, you should be able to craft Dragon armor, Titan armor, and/or Spectral armor, the endgame armors of a glitched Tutorial. After this, you can take a few screenshots and show off to your friends, but it’s also highly recommended that you start a real world. It’s much easier than beating the Tutorial.
