Avoiding Fall Damage?[edit source]

I don't get the note at the end of the 'Avoiding Fall Damage' section. Was the player knocked out of his shaft through a door he had left open / a monster had opened, then died when he hit the ground? Or somehow knocked through the walls of the shaft (huh?!)? That doesn't sound like a bug I've read anywhere else, ever. As for using doors to close off exits from the shaft, that's quite careless. Being exposed to areas where monsters roam, shafts should always be resealed by blocks as you exit.

Using doors is unnecessarily complicated anyway imo - first you have to make the doors, lug them around, install them, remember to close them when you pass through, and have to check periodically whether they've been opened or somehow removed or destroyed. It's far easier to just brick up the occasional side exit you may make from your shaft. - Spinfx 08:14, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

I have to state the obvious: A two-wide shaft can also be made using platforms. Just hold the down arrow, and you'll continue falling until you choose to stop. I'm not sure why it's stated it needs to be 3-wide, but I'm a newbie so that's why I'm commenting here instead of editing main article. --Sinister Stairs 17:11, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
A three-wide shaft gives you option of either free-fall or going down the platforms with the down arrow. --JonTheMon 17:14, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
And the reason free-fall would be preferred over controlled descent would be speed? Thanks for the explanation. (In my mind, the primary objective of the hellevator would be reaching the bottom alive. Yes. I've had a lucky horseshoe (and more recently, wings) equipped for so long that I tend to forget that fall damage exists. --Theothersteve7 19:01, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
I've grown to like making wide shafts, as part of my hallow/corruption anti-spreading defenses. I don't have room for horseshoes though so I need to be careful when descending, eaten a few 200-300dmg falls so far. - Spinfx 03:11, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

State of the page: Split Hoiks to the main wiki, move the equipment section to Guide:Practical Tips and merge Guide:Minecart rail systems here?[edit source]

The title is quite straightforward:

  1. Hoiks have been confirmed to be a feature from Devs recently, meaning that we should document it in great detail in main wiki: Here, we could instead explain the most effective methods to use Hoiks to travel to different biomes;
  2. I found this to be a mere generic list of travelling easily: it could be moved there and transcluded;
  3. The Minecart rail systems is quite small, and since that this page is now significantly smaller (courtesy of a huge cleanup of the Hellevator section), i support the merge proposal that it was made by another editor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MurrayZero (talkcontribs) at 17:26, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
Hoiks do deserve a separate page now that they're officially a supported feature of the game. I like the idea of providing information about effective use of Hoiks, but that might be dealt with on their own page – we'll see how the content there develops. Skybridge enemies[edit source]

It says if you use platforms instead of blocks that enemies won't spawn but I've been seeing zombies spawn on a wooden platform skybridge so unless someone can clarify how exactly to get them to not spawn on a platform skybridge I have removed that information. 01:30, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
