Hellstone Bars are bars crafted from Hellstone and Obsidian. They craft some of the most powerful equipment available pre-Hardmode, and remain useful, if not necessary, in dealing with the shift in difficulty. Notably, the Molten Pickaxe is the only pre-Hardmode pickaxe capable of mining the first tier of Hardmode ores, Cobalt and Palladium.

Crafting all items excluding the Hellfire Arrow requires on:

 PC,  Console,  Mobile, and  tModLoader: 207 Hellstone Bars. (621 Ore & 207 Obsidian) - However without the Bug Net It's the same as Console & Mobile.

 Old Chinese and  tModLoader Legacy: 192 Hellstone Bars. (576 Ore & 192 Obsidian)

 Old-gen console,  Windows Phone, and 3DS: 175 Hellstone Bars. (525 Ore & 175 Obsidian)

Tips

• Mining Hellstone with an Obsidian Skin Potion is an extremely effective way of obtaining large quantities of Coins, and is increasingly effective with Pickaxes of higher speed.

Trivia

• Hellstone Bars have a special immunity to lava in the code, even though their rarity implies this anyway.
