Status messages display as chat lines in the lower-left of the game screen when certain conditions apply.

NPCs[edit | edit source]

  • When an NPC (excluding the Old Man and Skeleton MerchantDesktop VersionConsole VersionMobile Version) spawns, the message "<Name of NPC> the <type of NPC> has arrived!" displays.
  • In the Mobile version Mobile version, when the requirements for an NPC have been fulfilled, but there is no housing for the NPC, the message "<Name of NPC> would like to settle down" may display.Verify
  • When an NPC dies, the message "<Name of NPC> the <type of NPC> was slain..." is displayed.
    • When the Angler dies, the message "<Name of Angler> has left!" is displayed.
  • When the Traveling MerchantDesktop VersionConsole VersionOld-gen console versionMobile Version departs, the message "<Name of NPC> the Traveling Merchant has departed!" is displayed.

Bosses[edit | edit source]

When most bosses are summoned, the message "<Name of boss> has awoken!" displays. When a boss spawns randomly on its own, without having been summoned by a player, the corresponding message below is displayed a few in-game hours before it appears:

Message Trigger Effect
"Spawn point set!" Player right-clicks a properly placed Bed. The player's spawn point is set to the Bed's location, as long as the bed is in a valid house.
"Spawn point removed!" Player right-clicks a properly placed Bed. The player's spawn point is set to the Spawn's location.
"Beach Ball was hit <number of times> times before touching the ground!" Beach Ball touches the ground after having been hit more than 10 times. Supports scoring a game played with the Ball.
"A horrible chill goes down your spine..." Player breaks one Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart. Alerts all players to the breakage (which may be off-screen).
"Screams echo around you..." Player breaks a second Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart.
"A meteorite has landed!" Has a chance after breaking one Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart. A meteor has crashed into the world.
"The ancient spirits of light and dark have been released." The Wall of Flesh is defeated for the first time. The current world converts to Hardmode. The Hallow, Underground Hallow, and the Underground Corruption/Crimson generate.
"Your world has been blessed with Cobalt!"
"Your world has been blessed with Mythril!"
"Your world has been blessed with Adamantite!"
"Your world has been blessed with Palladium!"
"Your world has been blessed with Orichalcum!"
"Your world has been blessed with Titanium!"
An Altar is destroyed. The respective Hardmode ore generates in the world.
"The jungle grows restless..." All three mechanical bosses have been defeated for the first time. Plantera's Bulbs begin spawning in the Underground Jungle.
"Screams are echoing from the dungeon..." Plantera is defeated for the first time. New enemy types begin spawning in the Dungeon.
"Your mind goes numb..." First of the four Celestial PillarsDesktop VersionConsole VersionMobile Version are destroyed. Alerts all players to the tower's death (which may be off-screen).
"You are overwhelmed with pain..." Second of the four Celestial Pillars are destroyed.
"Otherworldly voices linger around you..." Third of the four Celestial Pillars are destroyed.
"Impending doom approaches..." Either the last of the four Celestial Pillars are destroyed or the player uses a Celestial SigilDesktop VersionConsole VersionMobile Version. Starts the 60 second Moon LordDesktop VersionConsole VersionMobile Version summon countdown.
