Blooms next to lava?[]

Having just been to hell in search of seeds and picking up about 12 fireblossoms, many of which were at the very edge of lava, and absolutely no seeds, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that being next to lava doesn't make the fireblossom bloom (at least not on its own). Anyone have any idea what else may be required? 78.105.8.153 18:50, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Waterleaf requires tile of plant to be actually submerged in water, likely similar thing, but with lava, is used for fireblossom (of course, if lava doesn't destroy it and seeds). Trying that now. --Barhandar 19:51, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I just figured out myself that was the case for the waterleaf, so it's likely the same for fireblossom with lava. I don't relish the thought of having to dig up herbs buried in lava while fighting off the hordes of hell though, but I'm hoping that once I have one of the seeds I can just grow the stuff on ash outside of hell... bit harsh if it will only actually grow inside the underworld, I would think. 78.105.8.153 20:17, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
I just found one in hell and poured lava onto it, it survived. It wasn't fully grown though so it yielded nothing, not even the plant itself, but at least that demonstrates that it's immune to lava. I'm guessing putting the herbs in lava is the solution. I'll update the page. 78.105.8.153 20:50, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
Alright, I've managed to grab a mature one and some seeds by pouring lava onto it now, so that's confirmed.
Fireblossoms will sprout naturally and be planted on ash blocks anywhere in the world, not just the underworld. --GauHelldragon 16:19, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Will it still grow if it is planted in the block with lava in it? I am curious because mine isn't growing. 78.105.8.153 21:10, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Sprite Change in 1.0.6.1[]

Is it just me, or did the Fireblossom sprite turn a little pinker? Darrenalilim 02:13, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

1.3 Changed Bloom Requirement?[]

Ever since 1.3 came out, the fireblosoms don't seem bloom when submerged in lava anymore. I was playing on Expert Mode and they don't even grow in the lava anymore not even do the little trick on submerging it in lava in the Underworld just to get some seeds, but I finally figured out afterward when I got one seed and sat through the entire day and night to see when it blooms. It seems like they now bloom during the end of the day (at sunset which is around 3:45 pm - 7:30 pm in-game time). There might be more that might as well make it bloom but that's all I know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.58.201.249 at 20:57, July 2, 2015‎ (UTC)

For any future readers, the bloom requirement is indeed now time-based —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 03:08, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
