Merchant Ripped Me Off, WTF[edit source]

So the merchant seems to be lieing to me when he says how much he will buy things for.

When I mouse over a topaz in my inventory while in the merchants screen, it says "sells for 2 gold" Then I sell one and he only gives me 10 silver...

WTF!!! merchant will die if he rips me off again.

This is because your stack was a stack of 20 topaz, each worth 10 silver. It always shows the full price. --Miauw62 15:13, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Dialogue[edit source]

I think the dialogue of the Merchant should be added to the page. I dont know them all of my head, but here are some, and note that they are based on time of day sometimes.

'The sun is high, my prices are not'

'Sword beats paper, get one today'

'Boy, that sun is hot! I do have some perfectly ventilated armor!'

'-playername- Eh? I've heard good story's' (not sure about this one.) --Miauw62 15:13, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Mana Potion[edit source]

He doesn't always sell the lesser mana potion. Any idea what triggers him to sell it? Surhotchaperchlorome 15:53, 26 June 2011 (UTC) (Sorry, must have forgotten to log in when posting this. My bad.)

App Crash On Mobile[edit source]

On mobile, I tried to open the buy/sell menu and it crashed. Antvenom3333333 (talk) 12:49, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Bug Net[edit source]

I can't find the bug net in his buy/sell menu, even if my world is in hardmode. Is there an event to trigger him selling it? MeowingInsanely (talk), 30 May 2014‎ (UTC)

The item should always be available. I'm guessing it's bugged ("Bug Net Bug"!), so you could perhaps make a new world, spawn the Merchant in that (should go quickly if you've got 50 Silver Coin and materials to build some houses) and buy it there. Alternatively you could obtain the item by using a mod like TEdit or server-program like TShock. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 15:48, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
Tshock? I can't, cuz I have the uncommon "Found server" bug, so I'm in Hamachi... (I will never be a superadmin :C ).—Preceding unsigned comment added by 03:42, 14 June 2014‎ (UTC) (talkcontribs) at 12560156233
I'm sorry to hear that, I didn't know such a bug existed. When Googling it I found a thread (here) which claims it can be fixed by using a different port number (which is easy to set with TShock), perhaps it can be of some help. The problem may possibly also caused by trying to enter the wrong internal IP (for me it can be found by entering cmd in Run and ipconfig in the command window, the IP being the IPv4 Address). Your best shot however is the mod, did you try that yet? NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 13:47, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

potions[edit source]

For some reason, the merchant sells greater healing potions and greater mana potions instead of lesser ones. Also, he sells and iron shortsword.

A reference to the elder scrolls[edit source]

The quote “the last guy who was here left some junk...I mean treasures” is a reference to the shopkeepers in the elder scrolls Skyrim who say “you may call this junk I call them treasures” plz add that Yeetmcgee345 (talk) 16:37, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

That could just be a coincidence. The context of both sentences is different: That Merchant's quote refers to the quality of what "the last guy" gave him, while the shopkeepers in Skyrim talk about their own merchandise.
The wiki avoids mentioning possible references unless it's obvious (Flower of Fire) or confirmed (The Axe). Bame66 (talk) 17:41, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
