Talk:Ranged weapons

From Terraria Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Use Melee Weapons as a guide to create the page. It should contain Bows, Guns, and possibly Ammunition. I'm going to sleep. Null(T-C) 05:06, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

No venus magnum or marrow listed

Piranha gun is unique cause it isnt affected by any of the shroomite helmets.

but the star cannon, flamethrower, and elf melter aren't affected either. they should all be put in a miscellaneous category Michelangelo42 (talk) 14:09, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Could we get the console/pc/mobile indicators listed after the weapon names? As it is alphabetizing is nearly useless for anything that isn't in all versions. I'd change it myself but for some reason editing won't work properly for me. 13:49, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

Added discussion about missing content[edit source]

We don't have launchers listed as a Ranged Weapon category, besides it using ammo and being classified as "Ranged Damage" ingame, it isn't there in the article. -Rarirouyai (talk) 23:58, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

Are you talking about we don't have (rocket) launchers listed in this page. If so, please add them here. Or if you are talking about something else, I think I was misunderstanding. --IosKent (talk) 10:19, 13 June 2016 (UTC)--
In the start of the article, it is stated "...ranged weapons are split into the broad categories of bows, repeaters, and guns". I think that we should add Launchers in this very line. That's what I tried to explain, sorry if it wasn't clear. I will change it now. -Rarirouyai (talk) 21:58, 13 June 2016 (UTC)

Broken syntax in damage listing[edit source]

Is anyone ever going to fix the screwed up HTML code in the damage listings that make markup appear in the table? Trying to organize the list by damage only works for the half that doesn't have messed up code. 23:18, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

Novelty weapons - Water Gun and Slime Gun[edit source]

If the Water Gun and Slime Gun cause no damage and no knockback, can they really be considered Ranged weapons? – Ferretwings (talk) 03:10, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

No "Notes" or "Craft" column[edit source]

While navigating between weapons, I saw that Magic and Ranged weapons pages don't have the column for the notes that includes the "Crafting items needed" or where to find the items. Is it possible to add a column in each page?

Thank you. Seb —Preceding unsigned comment added by White digger (talkcontribs) at 15:39, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

Hello, thank you very much for your feedback! The table presented on the Ranged weapons page is generated automatically using the MediaWiki extension DynamicPageList. This means that all content in that table is not actually written in the source code of the page, but instead gathered from the {{item infobox}} parameters on the pages of ranged weapons. The advantage of this method is consistency of data – all changes made to any ranged weapons are automatically represented here as well, new ranged weapons even get added automatically. However, the disadvantage is that implementing a change like the one you suggested is infeasible. While it is possible to add another column that displays the crafting recipe, not all ranged weapons are crafted and the ones that are not would have a blank cell there. Adding text about how to acquire those non-craftable weapons would be absolutely impossible altogether, since that would have to be individually set for each one. (This brings up the question of whether or not to include source of an item in its infobox, but that is to be discussed elsewhere...)
I do agree that such a column would be helpful, as it gives a quick impression about how and roughly when to acquire the weapon in the game. This would require replacing the current DynamicPageList layout with a manual list of ranged weapons, but that might be worth it. Thanks to {{iteminfo}}, all stats can still be displayed dynamically and we are able to add an individual text about non-craftable weapons. Additionally, we could group the ranged weapons (similar to how it is done on the Magic weapons page), though losing the ability to sort all of them by a specific stat.
Hence, what is to decide now is:
  1. List the ranged weapons manually instead of via DPL – in favor of the "Source" column?
  2. If yes, group the ranged weapons?
