House location?[]

So can the Truffle be moved to a house outside the surface mushroom biome? Because while I'd like to have him in my town with my other NPCs, I'd also like my town to not suffer eternal night. -Jatopian (talk) 05:43, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Actually, Truffle doesn't even need a house *in* the glowing mushroom biome. A small patch of glowing mushroom grass nearby is enough to make him move in to a regular room. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.143.216.253 at 15:52, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

"Note" incorrect[]

The new Note regarding Truffle's need of a two block floor is inaccurate. Proof: http://i.imgur.com/KoEiTfm.png — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.19.150.23 at 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Correct. For those wondering, the note was eventually deleted. – Ferretwings (talk) 19:31, 14 October 2016 (UTC)

Male or Female?[]

Will the Truffle be teleported by the king statue, the queen statue, or neither? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.176.243.227 at 22:25, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

MOBILE version question...[]

Hi guys, I am in the predicament that it seems in small worlds your spawn point is roughly 20 blocks away from the underground. I had always made mushroom biomes close to home in every other version... Anyway let me start by saying that I found the "perfect" spot for the mushroom biome under my spawn point right where a demon altar is, but I am so upset that the dreaded underground music is playing! Please anyone, is there a possibility that I can pull this stunt off? It is bad enough to build in the mabile version, let alone build a house where the truffle wouldn't move into. I really don't want to go through all the trouble just for anyone else. I was thinking maybe "I could" since mushroom biomes only happen naturally in "cavern" layer (am I right)? Anyway, is there an option to make it in the air? Let me know thanks!! --Molokaicreeper (talk) 22:53, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

Is it near to the cavern? If yes, build in the middle height. Is it near a corruption? If yes, Build it away from that biome like somewhere. Or if any of this answers doesn't work, then ask someone else. --IosKent (talk) 10:40, 20 June 2016 (UTC)--
Thanks so much, what I did was I built it very close to my spawn point, pretty much I can hear the music when I start. I step down a few boards and there. Basically the very bottom of it is where the wall goes from "dirt background" to "rocky background"... the house I want for the truffle is above the line that divides them, I have to go to hardmode and basically see if it worked. Sorry, been caught up with real life :( --Molokaicreeper (talk) 01:23, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
The Surface layer bottom is at 0 depth, and extends all the way to space. You can build the Glowing Mushroom biome (and Truffle's house) anywhere within that layer. -- Ferretwings (talk) 07:48, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
Well you're welcome, although it is just some questions. I think that wasn't helpful at all. --IosKent (talk) 11:05, 1 July 2016 (UTC)--

Truffle Biome[]

Can A Glowing Mushroom biome Be In The Hallow? Ejdeibert (talk) 15:36, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

Yes a Glowing Mushroom biome can be anywhere on the world as long is there is mud and mushroom grass to create the biome... The biome will not become Hollowified even if it is placed in the middle of a Hollow biome.TOTORO01 (talk) 15:38, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
Yes. Although Corruption and Crimson will convert mud into dirt, Hallow will not, and is safe for both Glowing Mushroom biomes and Jungle Biomes. – Ferretwings (talk) 15:46, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
Ok, Thanks! Ejdeibert (talk) 16:04, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

Failed Housing[]

Noticed him not to spawn in a valid house (in a mushroom biome) on surface, ~50" above zero. Creating a small mushroom sky bridge at ~300" did worked... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.220.239.227 at 11:19, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Please post an image of the failed housing, maybe we can figure out why it failed. – Ferretwings (talk) 16:27, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
My guess is my surface home was in fact in hybrid biome (with snow), and the sky one was in pure mushroom. Surface had a proper background and spawned mushroom-themed enemies, but maybe it was too cold :) I'll try to move him there and will take a picture. 82.145.221.127 19:49, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Requirements for Truffle to move in and common problems with Truffle not spawning[]

There is additional requirement for this NPC to spawn. His house must be solely made out of Glowing Mushroom Blocks! Most common mistake in this regard is, to build walls and Furniture out of Glowing Mushroom Blocks directly on the Mud with Mushroom Grass on it. In this case floor is NOT made out of Glowing Mushrooms and Truffle will not move in, until you replace Mud floor with Glowing Mushroom floor!

This is wrong.[1] This will work.[2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.170.40.210 at 07:22, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

The page quote[]

The current quote in the page reads:

I feel like [Name of Truffle] is a bit misunderstood, he really is a fun guy.

— The Dryad

I think the quote would look better and sound more natural if the "[Name of Truffle]" was changed to "The Truffle", like this:

I feel like The Truffle is a bit misunderstood, he really is a fun guy.

— The Dryad

I can't do this change myself, because the page is protected. 46.132.187.223 14:01, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

Verify information in the notes section[]

Does anyone know where this info in the notes section came from or if it's just outdated:
"A mushroom biome will need to be comprised of at least 150 blocks for the Truffle to move in. Any less will display the message "This housing does not meet the requirements for a Truffle.""
I did a test in game using journey mode to figure out exactly when the truffle would move in, and at exactly 100 mushroom grass tiles (I blocked off the mushroom plants from growing using rails for an accurate count) the truffle will be able to move in. I get the message only when trying to place his housing banner when there are 99 or less mushroom grass tiles near the house, not when there are only less than 150 tiles. I may have been giving out misinformation to people based on that section for a little while now because I never got a good chance to test it myself until now. Stranded at sea (talk) 15:22, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

In the Desktop 1.4.1.2 source code, function CheckSpecialTownNPCSpawningConditions() in WorldGen.cs, it lists the tile ids it checks for:
if (tile.active() && (tile.type == (ushort) 70 || tile.type == (ushort) 71 || (tile.type == (ushort) 72 || tile.type == (ushort) 528)))
            ++num1;
which is Mushroom Grass, Glowing Mushroom (growing), Giant Glowing Mushroom (underground), and Mushroom Vine. It then checks the number of those tiles:
return num1 >= SceneMetrics.MushroomTileThreshold where MushroomTileThreshold = 100. Ferretwings, CTM (talk) 21:28, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
