Confusing Characters[edit source]

He calls you with the name of another same-gender NPC. What if the player is female and there aren't any oter female NPCs? Would he call the player correctly?

Appearance[edit source]

Has anyone seen him appear before entering Hard Mode? I only found him after (fresh game, had all other NPCs before) and his items are Hard Mode related, can someone weigh in on my theory please? --SabotageTheFool 14:35, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

The three new NPCs are pretty much shoved in front of you when you meet their spawn conditions. I played on my freshly spawned 1.1 map for hours without meeting the wizard (but finding the other two right away) but found him within 5 minutes of beating the Wall of Flesh. He definitely only appears in Hard Mode. --Moxxy 08:07, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

"Someone once told me friendship is magic. That's ridiculous. You can't turn people into frogs with friendship." Possible starting point for a trivia section (pop culture reference)?

Bying lots of items[edit source]

Nope, that was before buying Ice Rod - I had platinum for that precise task. --Barhandar 10:49, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Both site notes are wrong in this case, I've gotten it while carrying no money and had not bought anything from him. (Additionally, so is the one about the crystal ball) -- 06:18, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Presence of Bunnies[edit source]

I built my NPC quarters deep underground, and I keep seeing these bunnies popping up, and running towards where the wizard is situated. This happens to the extent that if the quarters are situated over lava, they'll spawn on the right side of the screen and run straight through the lava towards that destination, killing themselves in the process.

Can anyone else confirm that the Wizard attracts bunnies to his dwelling? --Xirema 21:56, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

I thought bunnies were attracted to traps as I had one built below my house for killing things during a blood moon. Looking at it again I realize now that the pressure pad is exactly below my Wizards stationary spot during the night. So I'm confirming this. Feel free to add it to the page. --Moxxy 22:02, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Nothing about this in the source code, I'm removing it. --Icke 00:25, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure town NPCs in general cause bunnies to spawn. I haven't actually been able to pin down this phenomenon, but I have loads of anecdotal evidence, such as:

  • Bunnies spawning around the dungeon (which is the Old Man's home), even though they're only supposed to spawn in the inner third of the map, where the Dungeon is clearly not situated.
  • Bunnies spawning underground after rescuing an NPC. He didn't even have a home yet, and suddenly there were bunnies, at the Cavern layer.

While not terribly important, this might be worth investigating. --Lunboks 19:58, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

After taking a look about NPCs in general (maybe I should have done that before, but its taking up so much time...) I can indeed confirm that they cause friendly monsters (that is not only bunnies, but also birds and goldfish) to spawn more often. In case of bunny's it doesn't even matter whether you are at the sides of the world or even in the underworld.(a bug maybe?) Also the exact location doesn't really matter. Whenever there are less monster spawns because there are NPCs nearby there is also an increased chance that friendly monsters spawn. (As long as certain conditions are fulfilled, for example that there is no goblin invasion going on.)
If you want you can add something on the general NPC page about this. --Icke 21:30, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
He'll actually attract bunnies even in absurd locations - hang around the cave you rescue him in long enough (while he is still there), and you should start seeing bunnies even at elevations like -2500 feet. 00:57, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

homosexual or just sexual?[edit source]

a lot of the comments have strong leans to flirting or suggestive references. considering he's a wizard, there's a few pop culture references to connect like dumbledore because he's homosexual and a wizard and respectable. 19:48, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

I never got that vibe from him. He is certainly is creepy though. --GauHelldragon 19:52, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
I'd say sexual, but he does come across as homosexual if your character is male. However, Dumbledore was homosexual? Did I miss something or am I just that naïve? -- 20:03, 11 December 2011 (UTC) J. K. Rowling said so and she wrote the books. 03:58, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Well, she owns her creations after all. Dumbledore did have quite a personality in retrospect, but I never really wondered about his sexuality. Still, our wizard's silly cheekyness does remind me a bit of Dumbledore. -- 04:11, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
In my opinion, I think the wizard is delusional, not necessarily homosexual or even sexual.

3rd Day Quote[edit source]

"Do you want some magic candy?" Is it just me, or does this have some reference to this book? Because I'm wondering if anyone else has read the book and gets the possible connection. Davidsbro 06:42, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Quotes[edit source]

On the quotes section, the quote "Ever wanted an enchanted ring that turns rocks into slimes? Well neither did I." appears under the "During the night" subsection, though this is not entirely correct, as he says that during the day (maybe during both day and night, haven't checked yet). Is this a mistake from the "Wizard" page? 18:32, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Quotes[edit source]

I noticed in the quotes that with the one that says "I once tried to bring an Angel Statue to life. It didn't do anything." Couldn't that possibly be a reference to Doctor Who with the Weeping Angels and such? Or is it just me.

Why was tied up and left there? and by who? CONSPIRACY TIME! (help me out guys)[edit source]

My first guess is it might have been the old man at the dungeon. He tied up the Mechanic! I know from one of his quotes: I have Vague memories of tying up a woman an throwing her in the dungeon." He said that after my mechanic went missing. He might still be cursed a little. Anyway........ It might have been him and he got lost.

iOS?[edit source]

At the beginning of the page it says he is in iOS, Xbox, and PC. But how can he be in iOS if the iOS version has no Hardmode? Can anyone confirm he IS in the iOS version? Because I'm really confused.

  • He is most likely in the iOS version, but unobtainable until HM is adde.

he was in golem temple[edit source]

he stinking spawned in golem temple so he was post plantera 00:05, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

The Wizard can spawn anywhere that a normal NPC can once Hardmode begins, which includes the Lihzahrd Temple. If you leave him, he'll despawn and respawn somewhere more accessible. –KM100 (talk) 02:24, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

His Defensive Attack[edit source]

I'm wondering his fireball attacks are from Flower of Fire or not. Because it's really seems to that. SteveisNoob (talk) 15:43, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Ice Rod[edit source]

The price was changed to 50 however, when you go the ice rod page, it shows a 1 for mobile/console. Just wondering which it is? TOTORO01 (talk) 04:51, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

Fake wizard?[edit source]

I was wandering around on an master mode world and found the wizard tied up. The bonds were removed by bee queen dashing past it yet nothing showed up on the map for it. I went further down the jungle and found another fake wizard that died by my summon. Nearby I found the real wizard that finally showed up on my map. Can someone tell me what this is?
