True Excalibur (demo)

Animation of the True Excalibur (pre-1.4.4) attacking Target Dummies.

The True Excalibur is a Hardmode sword which is incapable of autoswing. It is an amplified version of the Excalibur which uses Chlorophyte. The True Excalibur is one of the ingredients necessary to craft the Terra Blade.

The True Excalibur, unlike the Excalibur, is not capable of autoswing.

The True Excalibur fires a glowing pink sword projectile called "Light Beam" in the direction of the cursor every .48 seconds on average. Because this ability has a short cooldown, not every swing of the sword launches a Light Beam.

After the 1.4.4 update, the True Excalibur now has a very large area of yellow and pink energy around the blade, dealing damage in a dramatically wider area of effect, including larger coverage behind the player, similar to the True Night's Edge. It no longer fires a projectile sword beam.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

Notes[]

  • Due to their similar properties and counterpart characteristics, the True Excalibur can be compared to the True Night's Edge:
    • The True Night's Edge does -2.78% ( 30%) more damage, but is only 77.78% as fast. The Light Beam can go through one block-wide gaps, both horizontally and vertically, while the Night Beam, the glowing sword projectile fired by the True Night's Edge, can pass through solid one block-thick walls if standing directly adjacent. It cannot be fired vertically through ceilings or floors.
    • Because it spins, the Night Beam effectively hits more enemies than the Light Beam. However, the Light Beam can be launched more often and moves at a faster speed.
    • The True Excalibur has a 45.31% ( 26.88%) lower DPS as it does less damage and the more speed bonus doesn’t make up for it. Note that DPS is merely a rough estimate and far from being a reliable stat for comparison.
  • On the Mobile version Mobile version, the beams fire faster when rapidly tapping the screen or mashing the attack button on controller (thrice a second) than using the autoswing (twice a second).

Trivia[]

  • The Light Beams quickly pulsate, which can be viewed in detail by riding in a Minecart at full speed and firing straight forward.
