::Step One: Use a map viewer to test this. Step Two: realize that you're not right about this. Step Three: stop spreading counterproductive rumors about floating islands. I have used a map viewer to test the claim, and found that A: floating islands appear everywhere and B: surface clay appears all the time too. I'm guessing the surface clay claim comes from the fact most people think surface clay is only found in areas where the world gen has cut some ground away to make caves. This is not true. I have found surface clay in the middle of a flat plain before, and no, there wasn't a floating island above it. [[User:Thursday|Thursday]] 17:07, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

:::You do realize that i did step one several times and ''thus'' didn’t do “step two”? and what did i say about that thing that is semmingly hard to understand? right, it’s exactly yor “A”. sigh. ''yes they do appear everywhere''. no, i don’t believe you that surface clay without a floating island above existed in 1.0.4 (apart from subsequent modifications like deserts and cave entrances) proof, plz. and if you prove that it diesn’t exist anymore in 1.0.5, i’ll move the clay thing to trifia (“up to version 1.0.4, clay on the surface indicated…”) ‒ [[User:Flying sheep|Flying sheep]] 22:40, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

Adding merge tags to everything. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:06, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Only where it is appropriate, the discussion happens here: Talk:Terraria Wiki#All the slight variations… feel free to join ‒ Flying sheep 00:09, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
No. Discussion happens on the associated page. These items have been in the game a matter of hours. They are all individual items in the game. Please just stop. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:11, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
look at the moved discussion (i hope the one who moved it also moved the links in the merge templates): i just want the slimes merged together, and the bats, too. and the pieces of each costume (not all costumes, like you probably thought). sounds reasonable, no? ‒ Flying sheep 00:15, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Herbs

Why did you do that? The information is different. It wouldn't really help anyway. Null(T-C) 22:30, 25 June 2011 (UTC) different from what? and what wouldn’t help? i just put the information about herbs back on the herbs page ‒ Flying sheep 22:32, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

You messed up the plants page! and the info is different. the plants page talks about the plants and the regular page talks about the item! Null(T-C) 22:35, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
whoa, your redirect totally broke everything :) i restored it. ‒ Flying sheep 22:35, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
oh i see lol sorry for getting mad lolNull(T-C) 22:37, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
no problem. if you have a better idea, i’d love to see it.
i think it’s best to do this, and put pieces that aren’t to be transcluded to the plants page in <noinclude></noinclude> tags. ‒ Flying sheep 22:39, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
sure. try that and I'll see if I like it. Null(T-C) 22:42, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
ok I think I'm finished. Null(T-C) 23:18, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Surface Clay and Floating Islands

There is absolutely no proof via code inspection that surface clay is a sign of floating islands. Islands can be above deserts, lakes, forests, mountains: everywhere. Surface clay is fairly common, and it would be surprising if islands were NEVER found above clay. You may have discovered islands above clay once or twice, but that doesn't prove anything other than the fact that human beings are very good at seeing patterns where there are none. Unless you can provide incontrovertible evidence that clay on the surface is linked to islands, I'll keep removing it from the page. Anecdotal stories about having successfully found islands above clay don't count, because I've got plenty of anecdotal evidence suggesting that islands are found pretty much everywhere. Thursday 05:55, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

It seems to be very hard to understand that “Surface Clay and random dirt walls indicate Floating Islands above” doesn’t mean “They are a way to find all Floating Islands”. After making sure you got that one, please provide a counter example of surface clay without a Floating Island above, as nobody has ever posted a screenshot or map where this was the case. (Which is a scientific proof, at least for sufficiently high numbers of full maps which i have seen) To provide you with (approximate) numbers:
Spots with surface clay I have seen
30 < x < 40
Spots of surface clay I have seen that hadn’t a Floating Island above
0
Number of forum members which confirm
5 < x < 8
Number of forum members which claim to have seen a spot without an island above, but failed to answer further question, let alone provide screenshots
1
Oh, and note that my confidence only applies for 1.0.4, since they have changed the algorithm since (making it possible that the mechanism, which was ensuring Floating Islands above surface clay before then, was removed). I’ll add that to the page. – Flying sheep 16:19, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
