Dealing with IP vandalism[edit source]

Hello! Thank you for your commitment to contributing to the Terraria Wiki. You seemed to have become aware of an anonymous editor vandalizing the Iron Ore page. Vandalism is an issue the wiki constantly has been, is, and will continue to be faced with, which requires a quick, discreet, and professional method to address vandalism in order to maintain the wiki's integrity and respectability as a reliable source of information for Terraria. During the past years, a certain approach has been established fulfilling these self-imposed requirements. It usually includes the following:

  • Immediately undoing an edit that constitutes obvious vandalism
  • Posting on the Terraria Wiki:Admin noticeboard in the Vandal reports section (in case an administrator has not become aware of the vandalism already, which is currently rather unlikely)
  • In cases of less obvious vandalism, with a possibility of good faith, leaving a polite message on the editor's talk page, explaining the issue in an objective manner. This usually serves no purpose for anonymous editors, as IPs tend to change quickly, hence the message might never reach the original editor and/or confuse future owners of that IP.

If you ever happen to experience a case of vandalism again, please take one of these steps. You should refrain from posting messages conveying a lack of professionalism.

If any further questions arise, please do not hesitate to reach out to an admin on the Admin noticeboard or your fellow editors on the Community noticeboard. Moreover, I suggest you peruse the Wiki rules and our Style guide. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 00:00, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
