The Water Strider is a harmless critter that spawns on bodies of water on the Surface during the day. It only spawns near Sand and Jungle grass blocks, but not in the Ocean biome. It will not spawn if the wind speed exceeds 20 mph. The Water Strider moves by gliding on water and hopping around on land. Due to having only 5 health and no defense, it is often killed instantly by enemies or players. Gold Water Striders have a 0.67*1/150 (0.67%) chance to spawn in place of the regular variant.

It can be caught with any Bug Net to be carried around in the inventory and released later, or crafted into a Water Strider Cage to be used as decorative furniture. Once crafted, the caged Water Strider cannot be released again, and when placed down it moves around inside the cage as it would do outside.

The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Water Strider: "Glides elegantly along the surface of calm bodies of water searching for smaller bugs. Fish are occasionally attracted to these."

Trivia[]

  • The Water Strider design appears less like real world water striders, and more like the Pokemon character Surskit which seems to be based off of real world water striders, due to its bluish color.
  • Because of the specific spawn conditions, the Gold Water Strider might be the rarest critter in the game.

History[]

  • Desktop 1.4.4:
    • Spawn rate increased.
    • Increased the maximum level of windiness that will allow Water Striders to spawn from 10 mph to 20 mph.
