Hello there! We are conducting a survey to better understand the user experience in making a first edit. If you have ever made an edit on Gamepedia, please fill out the survey. Thank you!
Debuffs are temporary, negative status effects, as opposed to buffs, which affect the player positively. Once a debuff has been inflicted, the debuff's icon will display to the upper left/ upper right of the player's window, along with a count-down timer/ icon shading, showing how much longer the debuff will be in effect. The counter will begin at one minute/second less than its listed duration and show zero during the final minute/second.
Most debuffs can only be inflicted by enemies, however it is also possible for traps to inflict some debuffs on players.
Players can inflict the following debuffs on most enemies: Confused, Cursed Inferno, Ichor Debuff, Midas, Poisoned, Venom, On Fire!, Frostburn and Shadowflame.
Players can also inflict Bleeding on enemies via the Tizona . Players can inflict the Stunned debuff via the ammunition Heart Arrow . See below for a list of weapons that inflict debuffs on enemies.
In general, damaging debuffs will stack: If a player is both Poisoned and On Fire!, they will take damage from both debuffs. However, Poisoned and Venom do not stack, and Poisoned will take precedence over Venom. Death always cancels any active buffs or debuffs.
On the Mobile version, most gradual damage debuffs apply health percentage damage instead, making the DPS vary on enemies of different max HPs, capped at 4/5/6 damage per second on players. This can cause debuffs affecting high HP enemies and bosses to cause extreme damage compared to most conventional means of attacking, causing more than 400 damage per second on high HP bosses such as Golem and Duke Fishron.
Unlike buffs, Debuffs cannot be cancelled by right-clicking their icons. The Nurse can cancel debuffs at a cost of
750*7 50 per active debuff. This doesn't apply for the Potion Sickness debuff, because when trying to cancel the Potion Sickness debuff, the Nurse will not charge for recovery of the debuff and the debuff will not be canceled, but the Potion Sickness icon will disappear.
