The Dye Trader is an NPC that sells the Dye Vat and other dye-related items. He will move in when the following criteria have been met:

• There is an empty house.
• Any material used to craft dye is in the player's inventory (eg. Yellow Marigold).
• One of the following:

• A Strange Plant has been acquired and is in the player's inventory
• One of the four major Pre-Hardmode bosses has been defeated: Eye of Cthulhu, Skeletron, or Eater of Worlds / Brain of Cthulhu depending on whether you have corruption or crimson.

In addition to selling dye-related items, players may trade in Strange Plants for uncraftable and unpurchasable animated dyes. These dyes are given at random in sets of three for each Strange Plant exchanged in computer version.

On the  PC version,  Console version,  Mobile version,  Old Chinese version,  tModLoader version, and  tModLoader 1.3-Legacy version, the Dye Trader will attack nearby enemies with his Exotic Scimitar to defend himself. He may also drop this weapon on death.

Notes

• The Dye Trader does not appear in the 3DS version because the platform cannot render dyes.
• The Dye Trader is male, although he is often mistaken as female. This can be proven by summoning him with a King Statue.

• Ahirom, Abdosir, Hiram, Batnoam and Hanno are the names of ancient Phoenician kings and queens. Phoenicia was an east Mediterranean empire that became wealthy from the purple dye extracted from coastal snails, and Sea Snails drop the ingredient for Purple Dye.
• One of his quotes mentions that he sells "the richest colors"; however, he only sells 5 dyes, one of them only on multiplayer.
