Hellstone Bars are bars crafted from Hellstone and Obsidian. They craft some of the most powerful equipment available pre-Hardmode, and remain useful, if not necessary, in dealing with the shift in difficulty. Notably, the Molten Pickaxe is one of only two pre-Hardmode pickaxes capable of mining the first tier of Hardmode ores, Cobalt and Palladium, the other one being the Reaver Shark.

Crafting all items on  PC,  Console,  Mobile,  Old Chinese,  tModLoader, and  tModLoader Legacy, excluding the Hellfire Arrow, requires 192 Hellstone Bars. On  Old-gen console,  Windows Phone, and 3DS, it requires 175 Bars. This translates to 576 / 525 Hellstone and 192 / 175 Obsidian.
