Map viewers are 3rd-party programs that analyze saved maps and display their contents in one easily-viewable graphic.

Map viewers are useful for finding Floating Islands and other resources, as well as providing a total World view not otherwise attainable. Some programs also provide advanced tools for checking map variables, checking Chest contents, and even altering maps in various ways.

TerraMap

TerraMap lets you pan and zoom an interactive map and dynamically highlight items, items in chests, dungeons, NPCs, etc. It also supports headless, unattended world map image generation via command-line, complete with highlight capability.

Terrafirma

Pan and zoom maps with full game textures and lighting applied (textures require a local Terraria installation). Inspect chests and signs with right-click. Quickly jump to spawn, NPC houses, and Chests containing specific items. A variety of Save options to showcase your creations.

If textures do not display and the "Use Textures" option of the "View" menu is grayed out, click Help -> Settings, uncheck "Autodetect Texture Folder", click "Browse...", and locate the \Content\Images folder of your Terraria installation. Close and restart Terrafirma for this setting to take effect.

Omnitool

An extensible, open source, tool collection that merges many conveniences of other tools into a GUI. Available in multiple languages, Omnitool creates world backups and maps worlds on launch. Terraria Mapper

Original mapping program. Must be unzipped into the folder where Terraria keeps its world saves, usually Documents/My Games/Terraria/Worlds. Then click and drag the map file onto the executable.

TerrariaMapTool

Generates the map tiles and the data needed to display a Terraria world using the Google Maps API.

Python World Viewer

Similar to the other World Viewers, this creates a png map of a Terraria world. Written in Python, this viewer is compatible with Windows, Linux, and Mac operating systems. It also supports marking of points of interest, like altars, chests and crystal hearts.
