Deletion[]

This page was surely made by nothing short of a genius. I will fight to the end to see it stay on the wiki! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dalekearns (talkcontribs) at 16:29, 30 May 2011‎ (UTC)

This does serve as a way to explain death more than "You were slain"
  • The consequences of dying
  • Ways to prevent dying
  • How to move where you spawn when you die
  • Most dangerous hazards
  • How bosses react when you die (Very important as nearly everyone dies to a boss at some point)
Plus if you want to have a complete wiki, it can't just handwave death as "Oh you'll learn about it". Details and completeness are the goal of a wiki, is it not?--Jesthel 18:12, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
As there is no health page, this page nicely explains what happens when you die. Keep, imo. --JonTheMon 20:26, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
I don't see why it should be deleted as it is a huge part of this game. It does need a lot of work though but that's easy enough. -- ❤Kalilla❤ 07:19, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
Agreed, part of this game is dieing, and because of that, should't be deleted, all we need is MORE information.--MadPedro 01:39, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
With the advent of the new death messages, its even more Useful. Could list all the different death messages for each manner of death. Like the NPCs have for their chat. 69.204.41.246 04:52, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Debuff death messages[]

When debuffs such as poison and on fire appeared in 1.0.6, new ways of dying appeared, and I noticed when dying from poison that I got the message "<Player> didn't find the antidote. I'm not that much of a wiki editor so I'll won't add anything. I'd suggest somebody makes research and checks the new messages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.150.233.214 at 17:16, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Death by Explosives[]

I was playing a little while ago and was exploring the cavern layer when I suddenly died and was given the message <player> was removed from <world name> by <player>'s explosives. When I had no explosives on me. What caused this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.150.209.129 at 23:10, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

You probably set off an explosive trap which is a pressure plate/detonator wired to an explosives block. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.202.187.36 at 14:55, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Death message timer vs. Boss[]

I really think it's worth noting that the death cooldown timer is a lot longer when fighting a boss than otherwise, but before I put that on, I want to know if anyone disagrees. Jjman740 (talk) 23:02, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

FYI I have no idea offhand if this is so, but if it is, it should probably be noted. Equazcion (talk) 23:06, 4 Nov 2014 (UTC)
Might be worth noting somewhere here (and on the 'Hardcore' article) that a death in hardcore single-player causes the permanent loss of all held/equipped items due to dropped items disappearing when you quit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.237.87.226 at 19:03, 16 June 2017 (UTC)

Golden Tombstones and Tips[]

I play on the PS3 console edition. Even though I frequently hold at least 20 gold coins, I have never dropped a golden tombstone. Also, in the 'Tips' sections it says that a red X will appear on the map where you died. This does not show up on my map. Can someone verify whether these are bugs or not? Thanks- Diamondcat6746 (talk) 19:58, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Both the golden tombstone feature and death marking feature are from 1.3.0.1+, and therefore aren't implemented in the console version yet. I've added icons to prevent confusion. 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 21:11, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. Diamondcat6746 (talk) 22:38, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Respawn times[]

Are there any articles on the wiki that mention the respawn times?

Demon Altar (and assumably Crimson Altar) death message[]

In an Expert Mode world Pre-Hardmode, I tried destroying a Demon Altar (near my base) repetitively to get the death message. The message I got was (Starry is my character): Starry was slain... This is not listed as one of the causes of this death message. AccurateJany (talk) 10:37, 1 January 2020 (UTC)

In the section Other Death Messages, the fourth bullet point reads "When killed by failing to destroy an Altar, [...]" and lists the message that you got. Did you maybe confuse it with the very similar default message "<Player name> was slain." (note there is only a single period, not a row of dots), listed at the very top of the Default Death Messages section? --Rye Greenwood (talk) 18:41, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
I just saw that that note was added very recently, after your post. Apologies! --Rye Greenwood (talk) 19:59, 1 January 2020 (UTC)

Death Screen Skip[]

I have managed to skip the death screen, using the magic mirror while falling. Also, after death, a graveyard spawned, I dropped my money, and a chat message read "<PlayerName> didn't bounce". Should we add this to Trivia/Notes, or should I just report this to the devs? TheLainad27 (talk) 10:50, 5 June 2020 (UTC) Edit: how do i add files to show an example skip? TheLainad27 (talk) 10:52, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Death message "tried to swim in lava"[]

As several Minecraft players have noticed, Minecraft and Terraria share the death message "<Player name> tried to swim in lava."

Terraria added the death message in Desktop 1.0.5, on June 23, 2011.

Minecraft added the death message in the Java Edition Beta 1.8 Pre-release, on September 9, 2011.

As you can see, Terraria's death message came first, therefore it is not referencing Minecraft's death message. — Ferretwings, Wiki Specialist 03:22, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

New death message? Maybe?[]

So I was playing on a getfixedboi world when the Guide decided that he didn't want to live in such a horrid seed anymore and jumped into a nearby pool of lava. This spawned the Wall of Flesh, and I instantly died to it, but I got the death message "<Player> got to 1st base with the Wall of Flesh!" and I don't think it's on the page. I have no idea how this death message occurs, but I've never seen it in any world besides the getfixedboi seed, so I'm assuming it's exclusive to said seed.
