Two bat statues, two bunny statues, 8 spikyball traps, and a 1-second timer hooked up in the Ocean biome. I'm up to my eyeballs in banners, Chain Knives and Depth meters after an hour or two of this, but not a single Pirate Map has dropped. Was the statue-spawn method patched out?

I assume it was patched out when they patched out statue mobs dropping other hardmode summoning items, like the mechanical items. You can probably still do it using the same method used to farm dungeon keys, which is to set up a meteor farm, whilst equipped with the Turtle Armor and standing in honey.--175.144.191.23 11:10, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Using a pirate map during a solar eclipse prevents the eclipse mobs from spawning until the pirate invasion has been defeated. Waiting for a blood moon to test it there too, though I expect it will be the same.--LyricalDragon (talk) 17:37, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Farming

I think they mean Meteor Heads won't drop the map anymore. I haven't tested it myself. Equazcion (talk) 13:28, 14 Mar 2014 (UTC)

Yap yap, that's what I was getting at! Meteor Heads don't, minions do! NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 18:42, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
I'm not really sure if standing somewhere and having your minion kill things should be considered a good farming tip for any one item in particular. I think the tip was more about using Meteor Heads to replace Ocean enemies. Now that that's not applicable the farming tip seems a little generic. Equazcion (talk) 20:58, 16 Mar 2014 (UTC)
I guess using minions kill things is a matter of personal opinion. Personally I think it is a very good method, as it allows AFK farming. With that one may of course question AFK farming itself, though that too is a matter of personal opinion. I do however agree that it's a fairly generic tip. As such it would perhaps do better on a sort of guide for farming things, though after a quick check it doesn't appear like this wiki features something like that (though I may be wrong). And even so it's questionable whether it'd help people as much as when placed directly on this article. As you know, people usually expect to find relevant, convenient information included at the subject they've looked up. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 23:52, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Ocean Pirates?

You can kill the Pirate Invasion in the Ocean to get pirate maps from the pirates. Then you can just farm the Pirate Invasion over and over again.

Is this valid advice, or should it be removed from the article? Oceans are on the edge of the map, and invasions only target the original spawn point, and that's in the middle of the map. How can the Pirate Invasion could be fought on the ocean? Psithief (talk) 09:20, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

I can confirm this works. I spent the morning trying to farm up a Lucky Coin; it seems that the pirates are just as happy to invade a beach house spawn, and I wound up getting an average of two map drops per invasion. If you'd like I can upload a screencap later on when I have a moment to boot up the game -- ProfessorJerk (talk) 20:27, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

  • So, yeah... I just tried this, and it didn't work at all - I used the map from the western ocean after setting my spawn in a nearby shack, and while the Pirates decided to approach from the West (and immediately started spawning), they quickly moved off and stopped spawning, and I didn't see any trace of them until I cleared my spawn and returned to the center of the map, where they were all waiting. The second time I tried, they decided to approach from the East and, predictably, they went straight for the center of the map and stayed there. --Quietust (talk) 00:40, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

No altars broken?

Does this item still drop in the ocean biome if no demon/crimson altars have been broken in the world? I used crates to get titanium so I have not broken any altars. HnZ88 (talk) 10:31, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

I grinded mobs for half an hour with a water candle and battle potion. I guess I was unlucky. Right after I made this post, a Pirate Map dropped. HnZ88 (talk) 10:36, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Effective way to increase enemy spawns

https://puu.sh/AuCZx.png Tried to set up pirate map farm like this. Result: constant spawns of blood jelly and Arapaima along with normal ocean biome spawns (jelly and sharks). Got 1 map while building it and second as it was completed.

Any suggestions how to make screenshot wikia compatible or could someone make a better way and then add that to pirate map page? Tiki armor and optic staff are used. Primary potions: Night Owl and Shine. Summoning potion adds comfort. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.79.192.194 at 11:13, 28 May 2018
