Other Language Links

It is bothersome to have links to wiki pages in other languages. What I mean is that if I'm on the English wiki for terrariaonline, it doesn't make any sense to link to broken french pages, when the correct English pages exist. I saw that there is a completely separate website for Russian, and this should be done for all the languages that are being added - this intermixing is highly disorganized.(Not certain whether or not this belongs here, but I'll put it anyway)

Those are all part of the translation projects (Terraria_Wiki:Projects#Current_projects) and will eventually become sub-domains like the russian version. However, where are these links to translation pages from the main english pages? --JonTheMon 16:45, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

i made 3 acounts and all of theam i made a new hotmail but when i put the .com it had another dot on all 3! at the end messing it up

Image uploads

I can not for the life of me figure out how to upload an image. I've searched it, looked in Help, no luck. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.19.202.134 (talk).

Did you read the site notice? -- Wynthyst Curseicon talk 18:39, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

It seems image upload was disabled some time ago. Now I've had a few times that I wanted to upload an image to clarify something, but that simply wasn't possible. Another problem with the disabled image upload is that version 1.1 will come out very soon and there will be a lot of images that need to be uploaded. Therefore I think it would be a good idea to enable image upload again (or at least for some time after version 1.1 is out) --Icke 00:10, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

No, that's gotta be at least a semi-recent development. Possibly I'm out of the loop, but I'm as puzzled as you are. This might just be an issue for the Curse noticeboard, because there's not a lot a mere administrator could do about this. I can't even upload images, either. Not that I'd need to at this particular moment in time, but you have a point about 1.1. --Lunboks 06:36, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Navigation bar needs update

I've created a Curse noticeboard which will come in very handy sometimes. I think some bureau/sysop should add this to the left side navigation bar, right under Admin noticeboard. Juze User Juze sig icon 10:54, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

Currently there is no need for this page as this Admin noticeboard serves the same purpose. Considering I am the only active administrator currently on this wiki, there really is little need for the separation. -- Wynthyst Curseicon talk 02:07, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Article deletion requests

Starting to build up? There are 4 pages in it.... relax. -- Wynthyst Curseicon talk 18:16, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Pages are always kept for a few days before deletion, for several reasons. A minimal ammount of pages in the category is normal, and not neccessarilly a "build up". Happypal 16:54, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Awful Markup

Hi. could someone take the time to change the class “wikitable” so that tables, table headers, ~ rows and ~ cells look like the manually styled tables used all over the place (e.g. on Recipes)? this way, we can remove the headache-inducing manual styling everywhere.

thanks – Flying sheep 18:12, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Our "wikitables" are called "terraria" here. And they are used by the tables on the Recipes page (so by definition, they match). So yeah, the terraria class is ready for use for your tables. Are there any pages in particular which are bothering you? Happypal 16:40, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
ah, ok. i’ll remove all the repetitive style-tags, background colors, … then – Flying sheep 23:07, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
/e: now that everything on Recipes is cleaned, the lines between the table rows are gone. maybe you’ll want to add some back
Unfortunately, you can't do that, as it removes the borders between sections items, so I have undone your changes. -- Wynthyst Curseicon talk 23:24, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
I know. Just add them to the “terraria” class. – Flying sheep 23:27, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Doesn't work that way with compound tables. -- Wynthyst Curseicon talk 23:28, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
 1. Please re-revert the changes which didn’t remove borders (background colors, padding, …)
 2. How about adding it by default and removing it by override (i.e. a .noborder class)? This way, much less code litters that page. –Flying sheep 23:34, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Horizontal Scroll bar

I'm getting a horizontal scroll bar on all pages and I tracked it back to the "#ft div" style. Apparently, it's set to "1100px", which forces the page to be larger than my actual browser window size. Removing it doesn't seem to affect anything (except the removal of said horizontal scroll bar). --Jubia 07:12, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Trying to undo vandalism (Bunny) resulting in block

From the IP address 96.49.79.144 I attempted to undo the vandalism to [Bunny] and got immediately and without warning blocked (Large deletion of articles by new users.). I've had to use a computer at work to circumvent the IP block to send this message, since I found no other way. I could not create an account to contact Abuse Filter. Someone without access to another IP address could end up permanently and irrevocably blocked from the wiki without any recourse when attempting their first constructive action here, which would be a shame. I don't have a specific recommendation of how, but perhaps something could be done to prevent this unfortunate situation from happening. Thanks.

I undid most of the damage from 216.151.191.216. You'll need an admin to unblock you though (I'm not one). PS. This wiki might benefit from some night admins. PPS. The vandal IP still needs to be blocked. Equazcion (talk) 08:28, 10 Aug 2011 (UTC)

Undoing vandalism resulted in block

From the IP address 87.244.134.90 I was trying to undo massive vandalism created by Bob Saget and got blocked by Abuse filter with reason "Large deletion of articles by new users". Please undo this block. Also it seems, that registered users are protected from this (at least in some cases), so I'm planing to register later. Maybe it is possible to make exceptions for abuse filter, like ignoring new users with lots of edited articles in short time?

Yes, it seems that the cleanup from that wasn't complete, sorry about that. And the filter is set up to ignore users with a certain amount of edits (~5), but it seems that you hadn't reached that point yet. --JonTheMon 14:29, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Abuse Filter Sucks

The abuse filter doesn't do it's job. At all.

In fact, it's more of a hinderance than anything.

It PREVENTS undoing vandalism, as told above.

It needs to go away. It's worthless.

--Revengineer9001 17:14, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

It's hardly worthless, as it's stops 90% of all vandalism and spam on this wiki. It will not be going away, you need to just take a deep breath and relax. -- Wynthyst Curseicon talk 19:15, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Sidebar

The Gardening guide redirects to Farming. Other "finished" guides should also be put here. iLiaWneKTC 18:40, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Fixed. We'd have to discuss which guides are there though. I think the top 8 best guides should be there. --NullTalk 01:42, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
My thoughts on that, if we're holding the discussion here: I think Guide:Walkthrough could be an essential tool for players since there are some moments when you're not sure what to do next. The only way I was able to tell was by stumbling around the wiki checking prerequisites for items I might want. It could maybe use some fleshing out but is still very useful thusly, again not to experienced players as much as new ones. In contrast I think 'Making money' isn't quite that useful as it's more or less intuitive within the game which items to keep/craft for money. The "Making liquid" guide will be very useful as a draw for more experienced players, at least once it's refined and the page looks a bit prettier, as that topic is probably the least obvious of all. Equazcion (talk) 01:59, 26 Aug 2011 (UTC)
I agree with Guide:Walkthrough. I'm also thinking we should add Recipes in Navigation or in a new section. --NullTalk 02:12, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Got blocked trying to add history template

My account Gamecreator was blocked when i tried to add history template to Meteor Shot history. Reason: disallow certain words in mainspace articles. Please take attention. 87.244.138.75 11:10, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Filter mainspace articles with overlong titles

I'm not actually that experienced with the abuse filter, but I think we should disallow overly long page mainspace titles created by new users. Most of the spam articles created by bots seem to fall in that category, even if the majority of them is already caught by filter #1. And even if it's a false positive, it's probably a mis-directed "forum topic". Sound good/terrible? --Lunboks 17:12, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

It's been done before, so I just imported one of them. --JonTheMon 17:15, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Autoconfirmed users

Right now, anyone who registers an account is immediately considered autoconfirmed. Is this intentional? --Lunboks 13:54, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

Block certain usernames

Some people having been using names like "Terraria" or "Terrariawiki", so it made me think: is there anyway of blocking the creation of accounts with inappropriate names? Some names which should definitely be blocked:

 • Tiy (people will mimic him)
 • Redigit (same here)
 • Admin(istrator)
 • and any more names with swearing/profanity.

If this system already exists and is being used, I apologise for being an idiot. talk|contributions 15:35, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Unacceptable usernames aren't really a major problem right now, but there already is a system: The abuse filter, which can also monitor account sign-ups, but currently only checks for automatically generated names typically used by spam bots. I've created a new filter stub, but it's not enabled yet, in case one of the more senior administrators or Curse employees wants to review/veto it. Also, as far as I know, neither Tiyuri nor Redigit currently have an account here, and we don't want to show them the door when they decide they want one. --Lunboks 16:34, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Good points you make there. I wasn't really thinking it through when I posted, just trying to bring up some discussion. talk|contributions 17:26, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
The filter as-is is fine, with 1 exception, the "terraria" part. What if someone wanted a name like "Terraria luvur" or "likesTerrariaWiki"? Except for profanity names, we can see what users are created as they are created (RC), or when they edit and deal with them from there. --JonTheMon 19:16, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Okay, if the guy who created every other filter agrees… enabled (without the "terraria", you're right of course). The abuse filter seems to generate a very limited set of variables for createaccount actions though, so admins aren't immune to this filter. --Lunboks 19:42, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Lol since Jon is the creator/generator of most every abuse filter we are using network wide, I trust his judgment implicitly in this regard. -- Wynthyst Curseicon talk 00:28, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

User pages in mainspace

On the topic of filters: I've created one that reminds users that user/vanity pages go in the User namespace. I wouldn't call it a rampant problem, but I've seen it happen a couple times. Filter/message okay? --Lunboks 00:54, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Looks fine to me. Even if it's wrong, it's only giving a warning (not preventing), so any damage (I'm expecting none, but you never know) will be minimal at most. --JonTheMon 01:02, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
All right. Enabled & tested. --Lunboks 01:11, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

99.20.242.10

He's back making "forum posts" everywhere. What should we do? talk|contributions 22:01, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

(FYI, this IP address is this guy, he just seems to not want to log in.) Well, the way I see it:
 1. Several users have told him to stop cluttering up the place before.
 2. You have asked him to cease on his talk page.
 3. He's still going at it.
 4. Across his account and IP address, he has not made a single constructive edit. Seriously, not one. They're all in the talk namespace. Some of the more recent edits could almost be considered research, and then he turns around and does the ranting and swearing and replying to himself all over again.
 5. He was actually blocked indefinitely for trying to submit a rant with excessive swearing to mainspace — and then again, using his registered account. I reduced that to a week and changed the block message. Second chance, sort of thing.
So, yeah. Aside from him at least not being actively malicious, there are pretty much no redeeming factors. Maybe block for longer, then indefinite. --Lunboks 22:34, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
He doesn't seem to acknowledge what he is doing as "inacceptable". So should we just block? talk|contributions 14:01, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
OK, I blocked him for a week. Hopefully he'll understand, but if he comes back ranting again, I suppose we'll just have to block him permanently. talk|contributions 14:05, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
Or just keep upping the time frame by 1 or 2 block lengths until it becomes near-permanent. And a block is warranted if the action is clearly non-productive and the user has been warned. --JonTheMon 16:01, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Turkish translation?

Hello there, I'd like to translate wiki to my language, to Turkish. I think I made a little translation at http://wiki.terrariaonline.com/Guide:Getting_started/tr But, how to put it in projects? I meant this: http://wiki.terrariaonline.com/Terraria_Wiki:Projects

Sorry, I'm kinda new to wikis :) --Preceding unsigned comment added by Mehmet (talkcontribs)

Well, you would go to Terraria Wiki:Projects/Turkish translation and set up a page similar to, say, Terraria Wiki:Projects/Dutch translation or Terraria Wiki:Projects/French translation. After that, you would make each page as a sub-page of the english article (with /tr). The project would be complete when the translated main-page would be mostly free of red links. --JonTheMon 19:22, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Patrolling

Is there any way to mark users as "trusted", so that their edits will not needed to be patrolled? If the whole point of patrolling was to root out vandalism, then having to patrol almost a hundred edits from a trusted user is clearly counter-productive. I really think adding sound clips to every necessary page would really add to this wiki. OggHandler is simple and does the job. I have all sound clips too. Agree/disagree? --NullTalk 05:05, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

What kind of sounds are we talking about here? If it is "all sounds in the game", then I'd say it's more gimmicky than useful. If it is for the soundtrack, then I'm 100% for it. If it is to illustrate the sound a certain item/weapon/monster does, then a video might be better.

Proposed Wiki Extensions

 • Loops Extension: I've noticed that a lot of templates make due with a repeated pile of if statements where a loop would work so much better (it would eliminate all of those if statements, and it would allow truly unlimited entries). --Firelizzard

Protecting the templates

Well, someone noticed that some of the high-use templates aren't protected. I went ahead and protected some of them just now. I guess I didn't really notice, but the potential for site defacement is… well, definitely there. Semi-protection might be possible for some of them. If we had a proper autoconfirmed status, anyway.

Any reason against keeping some of those frequently-used template locked? Should we extend the protection to the top-25-or-so templates? --Lunboks 18:23, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

New Bureaucrat

Happypal has been absent for a while, and I'm not even sure what Kane does, so I think it's about time for a new bureaucrat (bcrat) to be added to keep things running. To that end, I think Null is a good candidate for a new bcrat. What do the other admins think about this? --JonTheMon 22:15, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I suppose it would be handy to have one around. In case there are some user rights that need managing and such. If there will be a new one, I'd either look at, well, you, or Null. Really, the only candidate I'd seriously oppose is myself. --Lunboks 23:00, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Disallow creating other user's pages?

Just a thought: Should we block users from creating (not editing) other users' pages in general, via the abuse filter? There seems to be no legit use to this. All I've seen it used for is:

 • Personal attacks (see my user page)
 • Spam (spam bots who follow a random red link, or try to create an account, fail due to their obvious username, and create the user page anyway)

--Lunboks 11:14, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

Are these events done by users (spam or otherwise) or IPs? --JonTheMon 15:46, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
The spam mostly comes from anonymous users. There seem to be 2 types of bot that create user pages: The one that follows random links and replaces the page content with something like "thnaks for this excellent infromation" (obviously auto-blocked if the page exists), and ones that get caught by the "Spam accounts" filter, but don't detect this and post their spam to what would have been their user page anyway. --Lunboks 13:01, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
