Categorized userpages

By the looks of things, there are a handful of base pages in the User: namespace which include templates like {{history}}, {{item infobox}}, {{npc infobox}}, and {{pc only}}. While this is probably alright in theory, its effect in practice is to cause the automatic categorization associated with said templates to be applied to user pages, which is probably something which should be avoided. This can be fixed in one of a few ways:

  1. Substitute the templates on the userpages which make use of them, then individually remove the categorization,
  2. add the same #ifexist #ifeq parser which appears at the bottom of the item and NPC infobox templates to the rest of the templates which make use of automatic categorization, or
  3. fully remove these templates from and prevent them from being used on userpages.

I would do this myself, but I would assume that the recent update to the abuse filter (based on these messages) precludes the first and last possibilities, while the second involves editing several fully protected templates (which can only be done by admins). Oscuritaforze (talk) 01:17, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

It does appear that several users are being categorized like this. That filter should only be preventing anons from editing userpages though, so ordinary users should still have access for reasons like this. Even so it'd probably be easiest and least tedious to just prevent the templates from categorizing pages they're attached to outside of the main namespace. Gearzein (talk) 01:41, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
Alright, I've gone through the listed templates and made appropriate changes so they'll only autocategorize pages in main. If any other templates are found to have this behavior, let us know. Gearzein (talk) 02:09, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Ah, alright. I don't actually have the ability to look at the abuse filter change I linked, but considering how lax the autoconfirmation requirements are here, I figured that it would make sense if it was preventing all users (except possibly admins) from editing other users' userpages.
And will do. For future reference, is this page actually the preferred place to report such issues? Oscuritaforze (talk) 02:13, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, if there's ever a technical issue or anything, report it here and one of the sysops will get on it. There hasn't really been any discussion on changing autoconfirm rules though- most hard vandals are driveby IPs who won't even bother to edit twice if the filter catches them, so there's little point in restricting registered users. Problems with Templates

Hello everybody, I'm an editor of the German Terraria Wiki (although I also edit the English version if I see something that needs editing) and I've noticed the severe incompatability of the templates with languages other than english. For example, the npc infobox template is translated into npc infobox/de, but does not accept names of items in other languages (e.g. entering "Shackle" makes both the .png file and link appear, but entering "Armband" (German for shackle) causes the template to not find the image and create a link called "Armband", which should never exist on this wiki (it should be Shackle/de, as you most probably know). If I try to seperate link and dispaled name via the usual method (Shackle/de|Armband), then the template tries to find Shackle/de.png and uses "Armband" as the item count! it also tears apart the rest of the items that way, so everything is pushed back a slot. For example, Shackle.png|1|2% and (in the next line) Zombie Banner|1|0.5% turns into Shackle/de.png|Armband|1 and (in the next line) 2%|Zombie Banner|1. Could you try to fix that somehow? My example link is Zombie/de.

However, the problem that is even worse is the crafting template! This template only exists in english, making translating pointless in the first place. See Platform/de.
The item template works well though, probably because it doesn't use drops, although the translation is a bit oddly worded and has some spelling errors. Please help me with this! Terrariapc1 (talk) 16:33, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
Unfortunately I don't think the wiki is set up to handle item names in languages other than English before those language wikis actually exist separately. From what I can gather, during the initial "translation project" that foreign languages are put through here, items need to retain their original English names, due to the problem you're describing. Once a language is actually split off into a separate bona fide wiki (which normally happens when enough pages are translated and at least one potential admin is determined to be available), those technical limitations won't be an issue, and item translations can happen freely. Equazcion (talk) 04:21, 6 Apr 2015 (UTC)
Okay, I see where this is going. Just translate as many pages as possible. Thanks! Terrariapc1 (talk) 05:38, 6 April 2015 (UTC

Random Article Issue

Hey, guys, I'm a new English editor and a longtime Terraria player. I do frequently read the wiki, and occasionally (not all the time) clicking the random page button will direct the user an article in another language. I'm not sure if there's a way to fix this, and I'm guessing that this issue is with the source code, not the Terraria wiki alone. I have experienced Dutch, Czech, and Russian so far.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Suddenpenguin (talkcontribs) at 22:40, 7 April 2015‎ (UTC)

I've noticed that issue. Foreign language versions of Terraria Wiki start out as subpages at the English wiki, so while they are still in progress (which they can be for a long time), the "random" link will often bring you to one of those. There are some options to fix that through the wiki's back-end code, and I've been considering contacting Curse/Gamepedia about implementing something. I'll put a request together and see what can be done. Equazcion (talk) 23:56, 7 Apr 2015 (UTC)
I found a MediaWiki extension that would address this, and put in a request with Curse to have it installed. It seems to require an update to MediaWiki though. They plan to deploy that next Wednesday, April 15th. Presumably it'll start working at that time, if all goes well. I'll post any updates I receive. Equazcion (talk) 06:40, 10 Apr 2015 (UTC)

Curse rights for bureaucrat (merged from Curse noticeboard)

Hello, I am one of the two active bureaucrats of Russian Terraria Wiki. I wanted to know, can I appoint a Curse rights to me (I know it is possible at special page)? If not, where can I send a request to it. I need this right for the following functions: deleterevision, suppressrevision, mergehistory, hideuser, editprotected. Alex Great talk 09:47, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

As far as I know only people that work at Curse receive those user rights. --0icke0 (talk) 18:17, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
This question is already resolved. It can be archived. ← Alex Great talk 03:26, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

"usermerge" right (merged from Curse noticeboard)

I can't find this right (at Russian Wiki). Where it is? At Special:UserGroupRights it exist for bureaucrats and Curse. But it doesn't shown at Special:SpecialPages. When I follow to Special:UserMerge this show me that this special page doesn't exist. Alex Great talk 09:47, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

I'm not quite sure if anyone pays attention to this page anymore. It's been sitting here for 4 years untouched (nearly) and I wasn't even aware it existed. I'd advise emailing wiki@curse.com instead. Equazcion (talk) 10:04, 13 Jun 2015 (UTC)
On this wiki somebody had to rename an account? For example I need to rename user account of my bot. I mistaken and registered it on wrong mail. Alex Great talk 05:16, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
All right. I have solved this problem by myself. I do not need to merge accounts. Thanks for answer. Alex Great talk 05:39, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

Can't make Angry Bones/nl

hello everyone, i have trouble making the page Angry bones/nl, which is ment as part of the dutch translation project. when i click publish i get i notice saying the following:

"Warning! You are attempting to create a page for an item that currently exists, but has had a Modifier applied in your game. This page would be redundant, as it already exists here, and so its creation has been prevented. You can find the page for this item by removing only the first word of its name and searching for the item (e.g. Warding Platinum Watch would be found on the Platinum Watch page)"

this is incorrect as angry bones is an enemy type. so wat should i do? ill just keep the text with me for now. User: Superstrijder15

I've gone ahead and made the page: Angry Bones/nl. Since "Angry" is also a modifier, it was causing that issue. Hopefully this problem doesn't come up too often in the future. --KM100 (talk) 13:36, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

thank you KM100, i filled the page with the content i had made already, so now its about finished! User:Superstrijder15

Wood types

I guess this is a somewhat unfortunate time for this discussion, with the 1.3 release right around the corner, but as it may save time later I figured I post it now. In the current crafting row template we make an exception in case an item can use both Iron and Lead bars. Although something similar is the case for Sand (any type can be used) and Pressure Plates (any color can be used) it is not really needed there, as it only affects one item. However for Wood there are many recipes in which any type of wood can be used. I have been away for quite some time, so I don't know if there is a reason an exception has been made for Iron/Load Bars and not for Wood, but if we are gonna make an exception for wood it would be good to decide this before 1.3 release, so I can update my data extraction tool accordingly. That way we don't have to change it for the new pages afterwards. (On a side note, I won't be able to extract data till some hours after release, as I'm busy around release time.) --0icke0 (talk) 09:19, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

First of all, I'm glad you're here now to help with the volume of new pages :) and welcome back! I added the "lead/iron" option in the crafts template because we already had many pages where duplicate recipes were listed separately. I wanted to combine them and save space. I think the original reason both were listed was because of availability -- the original wood is available to everyone, whereas not everyone will see iron in their world. For those who might not know to look for the alternate, we list a recipe for what they would be seeing instead. Although I don't think it's quite as pressing of an issue, I'd be alright with doing some combination for wood if you want, and if it's space-efficient. Equazcion (talk) 09:27, 30 Jun 2015 (UTC)
If that is the reason I don't think it is necessary. I'll add to the normal wood page which items can be crafted with any wood and which ones require normal wood so the information is available if anyone needs it. --0icke0 (talk) 10:29, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
I don't have anything to add here, but I wanted to let you know that I will be here in full force for the next few days as well. T-minus 4 hours and 15 minutes remaining. :). Chrisf1020 (talk) 12:45, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Chris, we'll definitely need all the help we can get :) Equazcion (talk) 13:04, 30 Jun 2015 (UTC)

If you're able to post this here, you shouldn't be blocked, and your IP has no previous entries on its block log. If you send me your other IP/username I could look into it. –KM100 (talk) 15:09, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
I can post because i logged off, my username is YeedilDragon.
To my knowledge, you were globally blocked because of (recurrent) vandalism over at the Minecraft Wiki. I don't want to countermand Orthotope's decisions, but your contributions here seem to be positive. I'll leave the decision open for other admins. –KM100 (talk) 16:03, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! I want to help with the 1.3 stuff. The vandalism on Minecraft Wiki are a mistake, i did not expect that the administrators block's me...— Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.134.32.83
Unfortunately we wouldn't generally reverse blocks imposed at other wikis. You'll need to contact the administrators at Minecraft Wiki and see if they'll lift the block. Equazcion (talk) 05:05, 2 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Article redundancy: Martian SaucerFlying Saucer

I assume both of the aforementioned articles describe the same thing. Since both articles contain relevant informations not mentioned in the other article both should be merged while keeping the respective revision histories. --Viciarg (talk) 13:52, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

This has been taken care of. Flying Saucer is now a disambiguation page. Equazcion (talk) 05:05, 2 Jul 2015 (UTC)

Music Page Error/ False Information

I recently attempted to edit the Music page to change some completely false information- but was not allowed because I had to remove a section in order to correct it.

See- where it says Boss 4 and Boss 5, the Boss 4 section is describing the Golem theme- which is actually included on the Soundtrack's second volume under the title "Golem".

What it was describing under the Boss 5 section is actually the Boss 4 theme- the one used for the Queen Bee, and for the Eye of Cthulhu and Ocram on the Console/Mobile ports.

If it's not clear precisely what change I am proposing- this image should sum it up. https://u.teknik.io/0ZkMzB.png

Done. –KM100 (talk) 19:37, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

Ads

I've been trying to locate all weapons including 1.3's weapons and I was planning on using your site to find out what all the weapons were. I was using the weapons page which listed every weapon (but didn't really) and I couldn't scroll down the page because of an advertisement in the corner. After the ad finished I began scrolling down and the page went back to the top and rea=started the ad not letting me scroll. This happened 3 times before I posted this. As a server owner I can assure you unless this is fixed and fixed fast I will be recommending other wiki's. Thanks for your concern (this is also the first major issue I've had. The wiki has lost something with 1.3. It use to be so much better and much much faster).— Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.53.38.122 at 23:53, 12 Jul 2015 (UTC)

The administrators here at the wiki have nothing to do with the ads displayed here; all of that is managed by the Curse staff, whom you should contact if you wish to do something about it. As for the longer load times, there's no surprise there. 1.3 was a huge update, so there are a lot more people contributing than before its release. –KM100 (talk) 00:03, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
Ads are served by Curse/Gamepedia, which hosts Terraria Wiki. Terraria update 1.3 wouldn't really have much to do with those (though perhaps there may have been some ad display changes that coincided with 1.3's release). We editors are just volunteers and don't control the ad choices nor how they're displayed. For the record, I agree that some of them can interfere with the site and I've personally experienced various technical issues resulting from them (when I've tested the site with full ad display). I'd suggest emailing wiki@curse.com, or try their forum, to resolve any problems you might be having, or to express general feedback. Equazcion (talk) 00:07, 13 Jul 2015 (UTC)

I don't know why you delete file that used in Russian Wiki. I think about files that can use in another language section. I think it's be ignored by Equazcion.

My request: Merge deleted version of Wandering Eye (2nd form) to Russian section with same name. ← Alex Great talk 13:10, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

I thought I checked for foreign uses before I deleted each in that batch, but I guess I must have neglected to with that one. Sorry. I've just restored it. Equazcion (talk) 00:06, 24 Jul 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I don't see usage in other project, I thought that you make javascript that display file usage. Why it brokes? ← Alex Great talk 06:15, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Wow. We have new Language section of Wiki? This is http://terraria-zhcn.gamepedia.com/. I think it's Simplified Chinese language. is'nt it? ← Alex Great talk 12:12, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

By Meta.Wikimedia standarts, I think, website must be renamed:

Interwikis must renamed also (in all exited language section). 12:20, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

At this time Game widow create section. ← Alex Great talk 12:23, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
The basics are now mostly in place, including the interwiki prefixes — Game widow (talk) 12:30, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Do you will rename web-site language code, that I noticed above? Because at this time "zh" prefix is mistake, because "zh" fully is zhcn. When we have one chinese section we don't care about it. But at this time we have two chinese wikis. And I think that we need correct interwikis. ← Alex Great talk 12:33, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Updating to new "official" codes might be more trouble than it's worth. The language codes don't come into play for readers or editors such that some official code standard would be expected, nor lack of it affect anything. And, changing existing codes would mess with a lot of existing interwiki links. Plus, the zhcn interwiki link already translates to "Chinese (Mainland China)".
But, yes, there's now a new language wiki (thanks Game widow!). See Terraria Wiki:Community noticeboard#Simplified Chinese. I'll be putting up a couple more notices soon, with links. Equazcion (talk) 12:34, 31 Jul 2015 (UTC)
My congratulations to new section users. And sorry for offtop. ← Alex Great talk 12:43, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

Use zh-cn. Equazcion (talk) 12:49, 31 Jul 2015 (UTC)
Umm scratch that. Lemme get things sorted out, I'll post a notice when we're ready to go with interwiki links. Equazcion (talk) 12:53, 31 Jul 2015 (UTC)
Okay this should work now. Use zh-cn. Equazcion (talk) 12:59, 31 Jul 2015 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Yap. Thanks, it's work. ← Alex Great talk 13:11, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

I'm also quite happy to run a bot to cleanup/standardise the prefixes (on all the terraria wikis) once you decide on the "final" version — Game widow (talk) 14:00, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
My opinion is: Change "zh" and "zhtw" (if used) to "lzh" as priority prefix for Traditional Chinese. And then change "zh-cn" and "zhcn" to "zh" as pririrty prefix for Simplified Chinese. I think guyz from META agree with me, because its corrected language codes. You can also ask users of both wikis, maybe they have new opinion. But do not forget that China does not recognize Taiwan as a state. But China considers Taiwan occupier mainland China. The same can happen when a question on the existence of two sections, and anyone of them assign a prefix "zh" because both is "Zhongguo" (中國 vs 中国). ← Alex Great talk 16:21, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

Gadget of Local Time

Can anybody import at English Wiki Gadget of local time? Thanks. ← Alex Great talk 11:25, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

This seems a little frivolous since nearly all users will have their local time displayed in their devices already. I'd rather not clutter up the gadget list with things that can be there just for the hell of it... Equazcion (talk) 16:15, 14 Aug 2015 (UTC)
I do not know what you're talking about if this gadget is disabled by default. And this gadget is exist at Preferences at Wikimedia Commons. Who's supposed to, he connected. Well, then I'll add it to my personal js. ← Alex Great talk 04:37, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
Just because a gadget is optional doesn't mean including it serves a purpose. I'm not sure why Commons has it, nor what anyone would need it for. I wouldn't include it unless someone can make a good case for it being practically useful here. Equazcion (talk) 04:47, 15 Aug 2015 (UTC)

Gadget of syntax highlighter

What about syntax highlighter at Editbox? This gadget provides highlightning of wikicode at editbox when you edit a page. ← Alex Great talk 04:47, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

I have half a year working with him on Wikipedia. Only glitch is when it does not work for very long pages (this warning on the gadget page). I find it very useful and have connected it for all (non-default) at Special:Gadgets in Russian Wiki. If someone have any problems with this or other gadgets, he can always contact with administrator. In any case, I only offer useful gadgets that use myself long ago. If the gadget is not tested by me, I did not add. In addition, I will anyway use this gadget through my js. Glad to cooperate. ← Alex Great talk 05:00, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

PS. I noticed that at the Russian wiki your JS code pages are displaying in a tiny font. We had this issue when Geshi was installed here. If you want to fix that, you can edit ru:MediaWiki:Geshi.css and add this:
pre {
     font-size:14px !important;
}

Strange messages

Hello everyone. I am just here to report a strange message appearing on the Buggy page. it is in read and it says "Expression error: Unrecognized punctuation character "%"." If anyone can tell me what it nis and more importantly do anything about it that would be great.u Thank you User:Sevennationarmy

The cause of this problem is changes to the infoboxes. Unfortunately, I'm on a mobile device for the next while and don't have the means to fix this on every page, but I'm aware of it akd have identified the problem as best I could.
All critter pages with bait power are affected by this, because the template for "power" was used for bait ratings, with a textual indicator of "% bait power". This has since changed to explicitly refer to package power, it's original use, and returns an error if the value isn't strictly numeric. While it is possible to simply allow text to be displayed in the field similarly to item count, the most comprehensive fix would be the addition of a simila "bait" field if one does not already exist. Gearzein (talk) 14:14, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

P.S. please sign posts with four tildes.

All fixed now. Thanks for letting us know about that :) Equazcion (talk) 14:32, 15 Aug 2015 (UTC)

Carrot method

The user Flarn2006(talkcontribs (87) • logsblock log) has added a method to make the Carrot item (which is used to summon the collectors edition exclusive bunny pet work). While I don't know whether it is allowed here or not, the official fora disallow users from explaining how the pet can be made to work. User:DarknessWizard

I've gone ahead and removed this. For the record, the statement didn't provide a method- in order to game the system with the information given, one would have to apply knowledge learned elsewhere, and how to actually alter registry entries isn't known by the majority of users. Even so, the intent was clear. Because such a long time has passed, no action will be taken against the indicated user (at least not by me).
The question has come up lately, though, so a discussion of the appropriateness of information on game hacking is likely one that this wiki will need to have sooner or later. We may be acting in an official capacity, but we are not the forums, and we can't just blanket apply their rules to our actions and content. Moreover, people have expressed interest in having modding resources on the wiki- and if I'm not mistaken, this is partly why we include the IDs of game items and entities. Given the sensitive nature of some of this content- in some sense, having the Carrot in a vanilla game is tantamount to pirating the Collector's Edition- this is probably an important discussion to have, as well as an interesting one. Gearzein (talk) 18:45, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
I would keep hacks but keep them out of mainspace. Guide pages would be fine. There's no real reason to exclude hacking info, but at the same time mainspace articles are intended to document proprietary game info alone. A simple 'see also'-type link to a guide page with hacks relevant to the article topic should be fine as it wouldn't distract much.
I'd exclude actual mod packages entirely though and restrict this allowance to tips, and to tools that can be used for "hacking" the proprietary game (eg. map viewers, inventory editors, third-party server software, etc). Downloadable software packages actually installed into the game that changes the game by altering content or the game interface (the common definition of a "game mod") is something that I think is less relevant, unless perhaps if a new namespace were set up specifically for mod info. I'd also oppose the inclusion of mods themselves. There were some muddy thoughts in my head about this that I've since lost, but the gist is that we risk playing favorites or serving as a platform for promotion if we start showcasing third-party modifications in depth, and that's assuming that we keep them to their own pages. A wiki for an unpopular roguelike I play made the decision to prominently feature the most prominent mod's changes to vanilla content directly on the main pages, and the result was a flood of inaccurate information not too dissimilar to our own changing of crafting recipes following 1.3's release. This story was going somewhere at one point but the main thrust of my argument is that it's a bad idea.
I am, however, reminded of a statement KM100 once made regarding in-depth examination of AI and other similar mechanics. Since we already place such strong emphasis on sourcing information from the code, having snippets available on subpages might not be a terrible idea, both for illustrative purposes and as a potential subset of "this is how it works under the hood" content. We might want to wait for the version to stabilize a bit before we take any measures like this, though- I've decompiled the game six times in the last month, only to have the resulting source made obsolete after a few days. Terraria Wiki:Directors

I think we can add same page of directors. This page is provide contacts in base wiki (English) for all current active admin staff in language sections of this project. This page also linked in sidebar of Minecraft Wiki (en). ← Alex Great talk 06:08, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

I got something started at Terraria Wiki:Directors. For reference, at any language wiki, Special:ListAllUsers?username=&group=sysop should list admins. Equazcion (talk) 07:34, 18 Aug 2015 (UTC)

Mass delete

Holy... I mixed up projects. Can you delete my last 28 files? I need to upload it to French Wiki. I'm sorry. ← Alex Great talk 10:40, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Done. --0icke0 (talk) 11:59, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Tax Collector trivia

The Tax Collector seems one of two NPC with a direct link to the real world, more specifically the United Kingdom, the other being the Tax Collector, Since he mentions farthings, which are UK currencies. This makes no sense, should the first one be traveling merchant? (Found in the traveling merchant page, note section.)

Looks like someone tried to more or less copy a similar note on the Tax Collector page, but didn't really do the proofreading so well. The statement isn't entirely true anyway, as lots of NPCs mention or even sell stuff that exists in reality, so I've removed it. Gearzein (talk) 21:10, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

Protect the Daybreak page?

There has been continual reversion of the DoT DPS data on the Daybreak page, likely because of a misunderstanding of the game mechanics and a failure to read. I'm not sure whether protecting it is the solution or not, but it's getting on my nerves, and it'd be nice to get it to stick for once.

It's not a single user- multiple IPs have been confused by this. When something is this strong a point of confusion, it's best practice to try rewording it rather than just reverting it exactly. It may actually be easier to just remove the DPS information though. In its most common implementation, DPS is an unreliable weapon statistic- but here it's just basic math. In any case, protecting the page is too drastic a measure. Gearzein (talk) 06:49, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

Help page could be more helpful

well, i'm fairly new here, and i still remember how much trouble i had learning how to tag and what they ment, the redirect to wikipedia was both vauge and inacurate for this wiki. i'd like to suggest adding a link to a how-to for tagging in gamepedia, and what the tags mean, in the new user page. FinaLemon 20:44, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

Considering your contributions I assume with tagging you mean adding a template to a page? In Category:Things to do a list of categories can be found that you properly want to add to a page. Each category also explains what template to add on a page to add it to that category. Also it is required that your signature links to your user page and talk page. Please make sure that it does. --0icke0 (talk) 10:54, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
ah, ok. makes sense then. p.s. i figured that was automatic, i'll get on it! FinaLemon 23:47, 25 October 2015 (UTC)
there, i think it should be working now! also, i forgot my signature on my last thing, fixed it! FinaLemon 23:47, 25 October 2015 (UTC)
wait, no. my computer's being dumb... now it should work! FinaLemon 23:51, 25 October 2015 (UTC)
um,i decided to go check and see if there were any that i missed, and all that it showed me were unused and unfiled templates. i'm talking about things like the merge or stub things that go at the top of a problem page... although knowing other things like the templates i'm seeing [coins, armor icons, etc.] would be handy to know, too. FinaLemon 00:35, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
Most of the templates have documentation on their main pages- for example, going to Template:Item infobox provides a convenient rundown of all possible fields and the information they'll accept. They're kind of an intermediate ability that have pretty strong effects on the wiki when used incorrectly, so it's not expected that a drive-by user will need or want to know how to use them, hence their exclusion from the main wiki help documentation. Many are relatively easy to suss out based either on context though- for example, if you see something like 75, looking at the source by using the edit button on a page where {{cc}} is used reveals that you'd have to type out {{cc|75}} to reproduce it, and naturally you could replace the number with another numerical value. Most templates, even large ones like tables and infoboxes, are simple fill-in-the-blanks cases like this, and it doesn't hurt anything to look at the source, so get out there and learn something.
All that being said, it's generally not great practice to go around adding templates like that to the tops of pages. Frankly, the wiki isn't fast enough to necessitate flagging or categorization of problem pages on that level. If a page is a stub, add the missing information- if there's not any then it's not a stub, just a short page. Similarly, adding merge or delete tags is something that needs to be done after some group deliberation, and in the few cases where it's not we'll catch it pretty quickly and knock it out. Gearzein (talk) 02:09, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
ok, thanks. FinaLemon 02:32, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

Open candy alert

uh, you guys know you have a very obvious open candy here, right? i first noticed it on the "mythril wall" page, and has been popping up infreqeuntly in the ad boxes ever since. it says "you have 1 message waiting for you", or something like that, with an "ok" button, then quivers, demanding attention. i'm not clicking on it to find out what it does, and i confirmed that it isn't my computer. can someone look into that to prevent security issues? FinaLemon 00:44, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

The admins don't have any say in what ads are run here. You'd have to talk to a member of the Curse staff about that. Gearzein (talk) 02:09, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
ok. i'll let them know if i see any. i just kinda figured most of the admins were staff, that's all. FinaLemon 02:34, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

dpl template for crafting station

Hi guys, I'm trying to get crafting stations organized via a dpl template (so you can list them using a simple dpl call rather than handcode every item manually in a list, like what's currently going on in the Crafting station article), but as I have no idea what I'm doing, the code I've tried to adapt from the Bullets dpl doesn't seem to work. See Bullets/dpl for the original, which I modified and saved as crafting/dpl. I added "listcat = crafting" to the Work Bench article, and tried to call it on my test page (User:Spinfx/Base_Guide) but as you can see the extension gives a warning (no results found). I'm probably missing something, would be great if any dpl gurus or whoever could point out what. Thanks. - Spinfx (talk) 09:50, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

See Terraria Wiki:Sandbox for an example. --0icke0 (talk) 10:09, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
Apparently I was missing a keyword in the dpl call ("Crafting station items", rather than just "Crafting station"). Neat. Gotta figure out why though, I see nothing in e.g. Work Bench that says Crafting station item and not just Crafting station. Oh well. Thanks. - Spinfx (talk) 10:54, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

I see everyone has taken notice of the stealth launch of the 3DS version.

I kindly suggest updating the front page to account for this very high key launch. Thanks to the incredible limitations of the 3DS, the version difference is significant, and probably will increase. 73.154.165.60 09:54, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

Now updated, thanks for the note. Equazcion (talk) 16:25, 13 Dec 2015 (UTC)
Should the 3DS version be in the mobile category? It has mobile exclusive features and follows the mobile update path. –KM100 (talk) 17:09, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
Usually mobile means phone OSs (android/ios/windows phone). 3DS seems more along the lines of a portable console, like PS Vita. According to the FAQ in the forum launch post, it has only 1.2/1.2.3 content, whereas mobile is now up to 1.2.4. Where did you see that it's following the mobile update path? Can you post a link? Equazcion (talk) 17:19, 13 Dec 2015 (UTC)
I'm not certain it's following mobile updates, but minecarts and fishing rods are shown in the trailer, features that are already in the mobile version and are planned to come to console in 2016. (unless they're shown but not included) Plus, reports here seem to be implying the existence of the Holiday Bauble, fishing rods, and a tutorial identical to the mobile version's. –KM100 (talk) 17:47, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
[1]: "What content is included? Terraria 3DS includes all the content from 1.2 with the exception of Dyes which are excluded on technical grounds*. To make up for that, we’ve added Minecarts, Fishing and a few 1.3 UI options like the ability to quick stack to a chest." 3DS seems to be doing its own thing. I'd vote keeping it under console for now, just for the sake of being intuitive, as 3DS is pretty different from traditional mobile platforms. We can wait and see how the updates are released/announced, and if they seem to follow the mobile ones, it can be switched over. Equazcion (talk) 17:56, 13 Dec 2015 (UTC)
My biggest fear would be confusion caused by 3DS players and the "mobile only" content. I'd agree that it's probably too early to tell, though. –KM100 (talk) 18:04, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
There does appear to be some content unique to the 3DS version at the moment, as far as I understood the announcement. (Like Minecarts in the game before the other console versions.) In other good news, the New 3DS and 3DS versions appear to have differences themselves, but they may mostly be performance differences. It should keep the wiki on its toes. 73.154.165.60 04:50, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

FISH-20151124

Another console version, another time for a gentle elbow of awareness. Edit: At the least, update the front page, too. :b 73.154.165.60 11:09, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
