Requests to be added to the contributor list at the top of the Community noticeboard page

If you'd like to be added to the above resource list of editors, please include your username below (only those with user accounts will be considered), and your area of expertise. – Ferretwings (talk) 01:16, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

I would like to be added to the list of trusted editors. My username is giga_5 and my area of expertise is the PC edition. I love creating animations & adding bits of trivia. Giga 5 (talk) 00:41, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to the wiki :) The editors on the list have made quite a number of good edits. You're still new, and I haven't really had a chance to evaluate your work. Perhaps in a couple more weeks, after you've made some more edits. We do appreciate the gif uploads; please see your talk page for some suggestions. :) – Ferretwings (talk) 15:27, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
Thx! Should I Make gifs with the proper clothing & background of the weapons I have already made gifs of and replace the old ones, or something else? Giga 5 (talk) 22:49, 20 October 2017 (UTC)
Have I added enough items to be added to the list, or should I add more? Thanks. Giga 5 (talk) 03:18, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
Should I make some more edits to be added? Giga 5 (talk) 23:24, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
Sorry i'm asking so many times, it's just no one is responding. If I cannot be added to the trusted editors list, please tell me. if I can, please put me with PC, iOS, and gif maker marked.Giga 5 (talk) 00:33, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
If you want to get the attention of the administrators (who determine who gets on the list), you might want to make a post on the Admin Noticeboard. Also, since User:Ferretwings originally replied to your first post, you might want to message them. ReedemtheD3ad (talk) 00:41, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
My, you certainly are persistent, lol! You seem to have gotten the hang of making gifs, so I've added you to the list. – Ferretwings (talk) 06:16, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

On another note, I have noticed that the list has gotten somewhat long and some of the users havn't been active in quite a while. Should they be temporarily removed from the list until they become active again so the list reflects only current active editors? ReedemtheD3ad (talk) 00:41, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

I agree. I removed two that hadn't edited in a year (or more), and moved the possible inactives to the bottom. I was really hoping PlanteraBlade would return, as we don't have many Xbox editors. I'll give him another month. – Ferretwings (talk) 06:16, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Oh, don't worry. I've still been browsing this site frequently. But there hasn't been much for me to edit. It's been a while since I've played the Xbox 360 version, but if you guys wanted me to check up on something, I'd be more than happy to look into it. PlanteraBlade (talk) 17:59, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

What does the PC uploads column mean? Does it mean images? Giga 5 (talk) 17:25, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

These are images found in the source files. They are stored with the xnb file extension. Some of our editors will discover an updated image, convert it to png, crop it if necessary, and upload the new image. These are not screenshots. However, we only have access to Desktop source files, which is why the column is labeled "PC image uploads". All images of Console/Mobile/3DS exclusives are high quality screenshots (unless an editor can get their hands on source files, which is always preferable). – Ferretwings (talk) 20:57, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

I would like to be added to the list with the PC Source Code, PC Images, and 3DS Columns checked for me. If you want, you can add a note that I can do some Wiki code and Tables. I also make gifs, but I am new to it. Shadowjared24 (talk) 16:29, 13 June 2017 (UTC)
No problem, and thanks! – Ferretwings (talk) 16:38, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

I would like to be added to the list with Mobile/iOS information and gameplay, and PC information and gameplay. I own copies of the Steam version of Terraria and iOS App Store version of Terraria. On desktop, I am post-Moon Lord and have TShock, so I can test anything on desktop. On the Mobile version I am post-Ocram and Duke Fishron, the only item I have not managed to obtain is the Rod of Discord. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 15:26, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion

I think every wiki should have speedy deletion. See what I'm talking about at the Gamepedia Help Wiki. Profile|Talk page|Contribs|User info - Myfinalettempt 17:54, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

Nearly all deletions at Terraria Wiki are "speedy." Speedy deletion is for wikis where deletions are generally discussed beforehand and a consensus needs to be reached across the community before they occur. A speedy delete is one that doesn't require that discussion, which is what most of our deletions are. Equazcion (talk) 18:04, 1 Jan 2017 (UTC)

Mobile vs 3DS

When the 3DS version appeared, I advocated for it being treated as a Console version, but this appears to be making less and less sense. If everything Mobile tends to also apply to 3DS, maybe it's time to treat 3DS as a Mobile platform. If you have an opinion on this please share, as my knowledge of 3DS, Mobile, and Console versions is very limited. Equazcion (talk) 20:00, 20 Nov 2016 (UTC)

I know this is pretty old, but I do think that Nintendo 3DS version should be treated as a mobile version. My only problem is that some mobile content isn't 3DS, so I don't know how that would work, but you could probably sort that out. Awesome_Diamonds 00:10, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
I've been treating 3DS as it's own version, neither console, nor mobile. It is somewhat of a hybrid, and will never move much beyond 1.2. If we are considering moving the 3DS information to the Mobile version page, I would ask, Where are players more likely to look for 3DS information? On the Console version page, or Mobile version page? Or do we give it it's own page? (it already has it's own 3DS Version history page) – Ferretwings (talk) 01:02, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
I do agree with you I think 3DS version should be its own page. Also if you are able to can you move the Diseaster Bunny in the mobile version page (it's in 3DS and Mobile Enemies section, when it should be in Mobile Exclusive Enemies) to a new enemy category called Mobile Enemies? —Awesome_Diamonds 14:24, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
Are you saying that 3DS does not have Diseaster Bunnies? – Ferretwings (talk) 14:41, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
Edit: Sorry, after re-reading what you said, I believe I understand. – Ferretwings (talk) 14:44, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
Sorry Ferretwings I accidentally said 3DS enemies, I meant console and mobile enemies —Awesome_Diamonds 13:40, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Terraria wiki offline/downloadable version

I have never found a good way to access the terraria wiki offline. Does anyone know how much work it would be to make a downloadable file which is just all of the current content pages and an index to access the content? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.112.206.74

You could put it in a .txt file al the non-wikicode text, which then can be viewed offline. Though you'll be able to copy statistics, they just won't be in their corresponding infoboxes. LordofEditing =(Talk)= 19:54, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
HTTrack is free software to download any website for offline browsing. It's been around a long time and it's become the fairly standard method. That said, some websites don't like it when people do this, and might prevent mass downloads of their content. I don't know offhand whether you'll have success using it with Gamepedia wikis. There's not much harm in trying though. Equazcion (talk) 19:57, 4 Jan 2017 (UTC)
Addendum: There might be some risk involved -- your IP could possibly be automatically blocked from accessing the site if your activity is deemed abusive. This is just conjecture though. So, try at your own risk. Equazcion (talk) 20:02, 4 Jan 2017 (UTC)

No More Dummy Ghosts

To my knowledge, there exists not dummy ghosts presently. The other day, I was on and DicemanX's world I was playing around with some of his stuff. I noticed something wasn't working. Turns out there doesn't seem to be dummy ghosts anymore. 99% of people will be completely unaffected. The only people who would be are people who use them for their crazy contraptions, hopefully the Crew at Relogic has given us something to do with the logic gates. I want to be wrong, I really, really do, bu unfortunately, it seems to not be the case.

HoulyDoggy (talk) 07:40, 5 January 2017 (UTC)Andrew

I just tested it. Dummy ghosts still exist. You can test it too. Just place one on top of a teleporter and teleport it away then try to damage it. --Leonord cursetalk」 12:47, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

Broken Mod/es page?

When I go to the Mod/es page, it says

The revision #539040 of the page named "Mod/es" does not exist.

This is usually caused by following an outdated history link to a page that has been deleted. Details can be found in the deletion log

The page's history is intact, and it is indeed part of the Spanish Translation Project. Is anybody else getting this strange error? – Ferretwings (talk) 14:25, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

I saw the error too. Deleting and re-creating the page seems to have fixed it. Equazcion (talk) 17:18, 19 Jan 2017 (UTC)

Npc infobox immunity field

I made a field for the NPC infobox which displays the debuffs an enemy is immune to, but I'm thinking its a bit complicated. In order to list an enemy's immunities, you would have to insert immune = yes, then list any categories or pages that would otherwise replace its name on the debuff pages. Using immunecat[1-3] = Boss NPCs or immunepage[1-3] = Boss should allow you to add to the pages it scans for, and if the {} were to differ from the PAGENAME, you could use overridename = Skeletron to set a different name.

...And then the alternative is manually inserting the debuffs, which is a bit more flexible.

Is this method too complicated, or is it simple enough to be used? 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 14:09, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

That might be a bit too complicated. To be honest I don't quite understand how it works. Manually entering debuffs via something like linked icon might be best. Equazcion (talk) 21:43, 20 Jan 2017 (UTC)
I'm looking it over. I do like the idea of having the information in one place. The trouble with the debuff lists is that they need to be manually updated. How is the info stored in the source code? Would it make more sense to store the immunity info in the infobox, and use dpls on the debuff pages to retrieve it? – Ferretwings (talk) 22:56, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
True, storing the immunities in the infobox would be easier… I'll start working on implementing that. 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 14:09, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

Looks good, and I'd stick with "or" as the clearer option, especially for new players. Equazcion (talk) 17:53, 20 Feb 2017 (UTC)

PlayStation & Xbox users needed

The Console 1.09 update includes: "Dragon, Spectral and Titan armor now craftable with Titanium."

It seems odd that they would add Titanium armor pieces to the recipe but not Palladium or Orichalcum. Would a console user please confirm? – Ferretwings (talk) 05:36, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Never mind... I posted in the forums and got a reply (and some nice screenshots). It seems strange that the devs wouldn't include Palladium and Orichalcum armor pieces, but it is what it is. – Ferretwings (talk) 13:09, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Mobile and 3DS users needed for Dragon, Titan, and Spectral armor recipes

I have recently updated the recipes for Dragon armor, Titan armor, and Spectral armor (for both mobile and console).

Mobile users: Please verify that the Mobile recipes are correct, specifically the helmet/mask/headgear recipes.
Are the armor pieces completely interchangeable? Can you craft the Dragon Mask with Cobalt Helmet, Orichalcum Mask, and Adamantite Helmet? Are there 6 possible recipes for Dragon Mask? That is what the current recipe layout suggests, so if this is not the case, I'll need to change it.
If you know how, please take screenshots of all the recipes for the Dragon Mask, Titan Helmet, and Spectral Headgear - it would be most helpful (I just googled it, and it can be done).
A console user was gracious enough to provide me with screenshots for the console version, which I will upload momentarily.

3DS users: If your recipes are the same as for Mobile, please edit the pages or comment here.

Thank you :) – Ferretwings (talk) 17:48, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

I can confirm that the recipes work on the mobile version. There is only one recipe shown for each armor piece, but they will adjust between the ore types depending on which armor pieces were last picked up. (see here) –KM100 (talk) 00:37, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

I found something

Hi,

I believe i found an amusing refrence that as not been added to the wiki info. However i did not find how to add it properly to the wiki.

The trivia i want to add is that the stardust guardian is refrence to Jojo's bizarre adventure Star platinum. I invite you to check it out but like the guardian it is a ghostly presence who stands behind it's user and punches things. Besides it comes from part 3 of Jojo "Stardust crusader" which seems like an obvious refrence. I have no statement of the devs confirming this but i believe it to be pretty obvious.

Thank you 88.191.64.248 00:38, 25 February 2017 (UTC)

That's been added several times before, but we now have a filter to prevent it. We require confirmation from the developer in all but the most obvious cases, because otherwise there's a flood of questionable "references" added to articles. Equazcion (talk) 00:52, 25 Feb 2017 (UTC)

Mc MoneyPants NPC

Recently User:Jacobserpentine8 posted the page "Mc MoneyPants". I originally dismissed it as vandalism, but upon further investigation realized that it may very well be actual content from the Chinese New Year update of the mobile version of Terraria. I'm posting here just to ask if any mobile users can verify the content currently listed on Mc MoneyPants is actual content from the mobile version of Terraria. Thanks in advance. :^) 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 01:18, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

1.3 Coming soon to mobile and new-gen consoles (separating old-gen from new-gen)

With a number of platforms diverging from the established console group, perhaps it is time to add a header to each page, listing which platforms the page applies to. The Exclusive template can be re-worked, or you can take a peek at the template I created to handle it. See: Template:Available on Here is an example of its usage: desktop (Switch will be added as a current-gen once it is released on Switch)Template:Available onFerretwings (talk) 00:56, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

I don't understand why the last link doesn't work. At first I thought the comma was throwing it off, but no: (console should be used for "all consoles" content (1.2.4); since 3DS is only 1.2 it should always be listed separately)Template:Available on
Nevermind, I figured it out. :) – Ferretwings (talk) 05:12, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
Wiiu and 3ds will never get any updates right? I think I heard that the switch version will be 1.3. Does anybody here have switch?--Leonord cursetalk」 09:05, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
The Wii U is not expected to get 1.3 (it almost-but-not-quite has the necessary computing power). The old 3DS is stuck with 1.2 (I do hope they get a patch to fix some bugs). The New 3DS is unknown (but appears unlikely). PS4 and Xbox One will be getting 1.3 in Q2 of 2017, and Switch in 2017 (they haven't set a date yet). – Ferretwings (talk) 14:04, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Item link template change

The item link template will now place the icons behind the item name. Also, if you wish to add text between the item and the icon, use the note parameter. Example: -> S.D.M.G.S.D.M.G.(some text)

I do realize I now have to edit a bunch of pages and remove icons. – Ferretwings (talk) 23:46, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

I just came to write something kinda related so maybe I should just write here. There seem to be some inconsistencies in the exclusivity icon at some places when linking items. By example in this page https://terraria.gamepedia.com/Re-Logic#Arkhalis many of the item listed have pc icons but not all of them. Where does the icon or no icon condition come from? --Leonord cursetalk」 22:11, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
The icons only appear if the page it links to has code like on the page, which notes that the content is exclusive to that version. It's automatically applied by desktop only and such, but redirects don't have such code because they aren't meant to be viewed. Thus, adding the code to the desired redirect should cause the icon to appear. 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 22:19, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
Ahh I get, thanks. I was imagining it worked that way. I will consider that in the future. --Leonord cursetalk」 09:18, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
Edit: It seems that redirects are ignored in this system. No icon will appear even with the pc only template inside the redirect. --Leonord cursetalk」 09:24, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
Edit2: Now it seems to work. Probably the gamepedia cache is at fault. --Leonord cursetalk」 10:19, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Terraria talk on Discord regarding future updates

Cenx has mentioned a few times that creative mode is coming to Terraria. Unfortunately, it is on the Discord terraria server, and I haven't figured out how to get a proper link. Still working on it. (the jump-link is: this but it wont actually jump to the discussion). You can find the discussion quite easily by searching for "creative mode". I just made a new template for Expert Mode only content here. Can I put these on pages that are about Expert Mode content? Just want to be able to be fully confident about being allowed to make this template. Here's the template:

The King Slime Treasure Bag is speaking to me. The blue would contrast quite well with the pink background. – Ferretwings (talk) 22:41, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
Love the animated icon! I would choose a more subtle background color being that is not a "critical" notice. That would also make the template blend better if place inside an article somewhere not at the top. Maybe a bit darker grey than the default background? --Leonord cursetalk」 07:59, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

Pages of items that grant buffs self-linking via redirect(potions specifically and buff granting items in general)

Many(most?) potion pages begin with "The <Blank> Potion is a buff potion which buffs the player with <Blank>." with <Blank> sometimes being a link that points to a redirect that leads back to the original page.

Imo, it gives a wrong idea to the reader, suggesting that he can get more information on the buff somewhere. Page history of redirect pages shows there used to be separate pages for buffs, but I'm guessing they were merged into pages of potion that grant them.

Is it ok if I go through potions and remove those self-links I notice?

I also have an issue with item infoboxes buff field doing similar thing. An "easy" fix would be to disable link generation from the template, but I can't even estimate how much that can potentially break. I can't think of any other solutions though.

But maybe these are not actually problems, and don't need fixing? 88.193.92.203 17:12, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

I would say that those selflinkings could be removed. I doubt we will ever make standalone pages for the buffs again. Some buffs have standalone pages but not many so you should check. Regarding the template I would leave it like that to not break stuff. --Leonord cursetalk」 17:25, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
Go ahead and remove those self-links, they're really not needed, and like you said, give the reader the wrong idea. As for the infobox, a parameter "bufflink = false" could probably be implemented without breaking anything. It's worth looking into. – KM100 (talk) 17:52, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

I've gone through potions category, and removed them where I noticed(re-checked with search for "is a buff potion which buffs the player with").

Not sure if change actually made things better. Phrase structure itself made a lot more sense(imo) when there were separate buff pages.

I've left buff name capitalized as it was when it was a link, if someone thinks it should be lowercase now, please post here and I can re-edit. Same for if someone has a better variant of the existing phrase, or a new blanket phrase. 88.193.92.203 19:26, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

I went ahead and slightly reworded the pages, so they'll hopefully sound a bit less awkward. The infobox may still need to be tweaked in the meantime, but thanks for helping the wiki out! – KM100 (talk) 05:04, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

Thank you all. I'll recheck potions in a bit to see if something was missed, and then go through other buff granting items and add "bufflink = no" if they're self-linking. Thanks again. 88.193.92.203 05:52, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

Gone through potions(and couple of pets that were in potions category), and noticed that some bufflinks(Crate Potion, Mining Potion, Summoning Potion) had (buff) at the end, while most(of potions at least) didn't. Is there's a way to pass alternate text argument to nested template(to hide the (buff) text and make them all uniform? One way to fix this would be to create redirects from File:Crate.png, File:Mining.png and File:Summoning.png but that can create problems later, so I'm leaving this "as is" for now. 88.193.92.203 08:35, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

Gone through infoboxes(was searching "Grants buff", so missed some the pages that didn't fill infobox), probably done with bulk changes unless I notice I broke something.

Some things that I noticed while glancing through the pages but haven't changed:

  • Some buff names have "(buff)" appended to them, some don't. They should probably all be same format, but since I see no "clear" majority - leaving "as is".
  • Sweetheart Necklace is missing buff info in infobox atm, probably not intentional. I will probably go through related pages(Panic Necklace/Panic!) "soon", try to recheck the numbers and tweak what I can.
  • Minecart bufflink points to Minecart Track through a redirect. Left "as is" because I feel like it does more good than harm, and it's not a self-link.

Also, I disabled bufflinks for Campfire and Fireplace. Both provide "Cozy fire" buff, that doesn't have its own page. Campfire was self-linking, Fireplace bufflink was pointing to Campfire through a redirect. Far from ideal, but I doubt my abilities to write even a stub page for Cozy fire. 88.193.92.203 20:44, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, it's looking much better :) I'll be looking at the template soon to see what can be done about the "(buff)" displaying (it does seem rather redundant). I actually know how to fix it, but it will require renaming all the affected "(Buff)" images to "(buff)", as a standard will need to be set. It should be a simple matter to strip the "(buff)" from what is displayed. There are actually a number of buffs that probably should not have their own page, like Oozed which is only inflicted by Ogre.– Ferretwings (talk) 18:13, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
The "(buff)" will no longer display as part of the buff name. When I dpl'd the png files, it turns out that they were all correct, although I could have sworn I saw some that had "(Buff)" instead of "(buff)". – Ferretwings (talk) 21:14, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

Console and 3DS users

Can console users sell critters? Mobile cannot, but you are not mobile ;) Also, 3DS, how about you? – Ferretwings (talk) 18:17, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

Can confirm that the 3DS version doesn't allow you to sell critters for profit. :^) 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 21:30, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

Where have all the console players gone? (sung to the tune "Where have all the flowers gone?") I may end up buying Terraria for the kid down the street just so I can get some questions answered. He got an Xbox1 for his birthday. – Ferretwings (talk) 20:59, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

I just checked in at the forums and it seems like console does indeed allow you to sell critters, and has the sell prices from 1.3 ported over. (Thanks, NikeLeon) – KM100 (talk) 06:53, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

Icon Template Protection

A while back, I made a few templates for dual icons, I put them on a few pages and realized that if someone vandalized it it would be pretty bad, so should these pages be protected? List of templates:

  • Template:Desktop-console icon pc-console icon
  • Template:Console-mobile icon console-mobile icon
  • Template:Mobile-3DS icon mobile-3DS icon
  • Mobile version Mobile Mobile
  • Console version Console console
  • PC version PC desktop
  • (I didn't make a 3DS template since it would be the exact same as the 3DS icon template)

Awesome_Diamonds 14:48, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Also should the Expert Mode only be protected? —Awesome_Diamonds 14:51, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Icon templates are usually protected so that only admin can edit them. I hope this isn't a problem? – Ferretwings (talk) 18:24, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
I made the Expert Mode only template editable by registered users, that way should you wish to play around with it some more, you may. – Ferretwings (talk) 20:46, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
Thanks! I put a topic in the console discussion page about an extra space in the template. I also just now noticed that I only capitalized the M in Mobile, so would a bot be able to replace Mobile with mobile on all pages after moving it? It might take some work, so we could just keep it like it is —Awesome_Diamonds 13:32, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Icon templates

Some wiki pages use quite a number of stand-alone console and mobile icons, with no actual links to the Console version or Mobile version pages. Sometimes it's easier just to place the icon in front of information, rather than use the whatever version template. I often do this myself.

I would like to add links to the stand-alone icons. I've already done it to Template:Mobile icon, if you'd like to take a look.

Are there any objections or suggestions? – Ferretwings (talk) 04:53, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

I think this is a good idea to link them. Also, would you be able to link the 3ds to the 3DS version page in the template ? —Awesome_Diamonds 13:28, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
If I go forward with it, the version templates will be changed just a bit as well. I neglected to mention that one of the changes to the icon templates would be making the cursor a pointer only if the icon is linked.
As a test, I've changed both Template:Mobile icon and Template:Mobile version if you'd like to take a look. I created documentation for each so you can see how they'll perform. The Console and 3DS icon and version templates would behave similarly once changed. – Ferretwings (talk) 18:37, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Ok then, it's done. Template:Mobile icon, Template:Console icon, and Template:3DS icon are now linked to their version pages, and the cursor will only change to a pointer if the icon is linked (there is a flag to unlink it, if so desired). If anybody is unhappy with the change, let me know. One editor pointed out to me the reasons for the old layouts, however I'm hoping this will be an improvement (for the reasons I stated above). Only time will tell. If more editors like the old way, we can always revert. (I also added documentation to the whatever version templates) – Ferretwings (talk) 03:24, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

Incorrect damage on Spectral Arrows

On this page, it lists just one damage value for Spectral Arrows even though Console version Console and Mobile version Mobile have separate damage dealt from it. I'm bad at editing charts/tables, so is there anyone that can easily do that? Awesome_Diamonds 21:15, 29 April 2017 (UTC) (Moved) —Awesome_Diamonds 13:40, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you're seeing. When I go to the page, I see two values, one for console, and one for mobile. It's the only column with two numbers. – Ferretwings (talk) 18:43, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Mobile Controls

The below text is about the touch controls section on the page. I don't own a MiFi controller, so I am not sure if their information is wrong I noticed on the Game Controls page, the Mobile version Mobile controls says that pausing is done by using the [...] button, when that is the inventory (however, opening the inventory does pause the game in singleplayer). Pausing is done using the || button. Anyone good with tables who can fix this issue? Thanks! —Awesome_Diamonds 00:46, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

Alright, I've fixed it. Thanks for pointing that out. – KM100 (talk) 15:23, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

Easter egg page

I just noticed that Terraria wiki doesn't yet have a page that lists Easter Eggs found in Terraria. Because i dont have a Gamepedia account, i cant create that page, but if sombody would create that page, i would be more than happy to add info to it. However, if you think that kind of page would be unnecessary to add, you dont need to add it.

Desktop Only/Pc only Templates

I just noticed that there are two templates that are functionally identical, but are on separate pages, anyone with a bot who can 1) delete pc only, then 2) replace pc only with desktop only on all pages, or vice versa. Thanks! —Awesome_Diamonds 20:45, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

I'd love to see this happen, but it would be a lot of work. Equazcion tried to switch over to the desktop version, but the pc version is so ingrained into the wiki. I use the desktop version myself, as desktop technically encompasses PC, Linux, and Apple. I should probably get a bot. Perhaps another admin will weigh in as well. – Ferretwings (talk) 05:07, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

Also, is there anyone with a bot who can replace all mobile with short? —Awesome_Diamonds 20:49, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

And then delete the Template:Mobile page? —Awesome_Diamonds 20:50, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

To be honest, although the mobile version template is older (and would normally take precedence over the newer), if an editor is seeking brevity, the mobile template would make more sense. I'll need to ponder this a bit more. – Ferretwings (talk) 05:07, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

ads, bars, popups etc (printing)

I understand this website has ads in order to generate ad revenue... but the reason I came to the site today was to find a printer friendly version of one of the pages to print. the problem is that with all the scrolling bars, and added junk its impossible to find a page to print that doesn't waste a ton of ink... and there are pleanty of resources on the web for the same content that you offer so it seems to me that it would be in everyones best interest to at least add an OPTIONAL link for printer friendly versions of this same information. I will continue my search for what I am looking for on other websites until I find what I am looking for, please consider to provide your viewers with a printable version of these reference materials for offline viewing. thanks -stingjay- — Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.2.1.113 at 14:10, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

There is a printable version link under the Tools subsection of the sidebar which takes you to https://terraria.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=<PAGENAME>&printable=yes. I haven't used it, but comparing to the regular pages, it should save you some ink when printing. If you are running low on ink though, I would recommend either copy pasting the text into a text editor or taking a screenshot. And of course, there are always sites such as these if none of the previous methods work. 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 14:50, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

Question: How do you insert emotes?

I recently edited the Roman Candle wiki page and was typing "mobile and 3DS versions", but could not work out how to insert the 3DS or mobile emote. I looked through the insert tab, nothing there, and also looked at a few help pages, but still nothing. If you want, a more experienced wiki user can just change it for me, I don't mind. Here's a link to the wiki page: https://terraria.gamepedia.com/Roman_Candle — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ranklordmeow (talkcontribs) at 08:14, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

You can insert those icons by using the mobile icon and templates, like so:
mobile -> Mobile version
3ds -> Nintendo 3DS version

Ads cutting off content

This is an issue that's noticable on a lot of the Gamepedia wikis, but this one is by far the worst offender I've seen. On SEVERAL pages on the wiki, you have content that's completely cut off due to the ads getting in the way. It makes it a big pain in the butt when I'm looking at, say, a fishing list, when I have to scroll the whole way to the bottom to scroll right so I can see the notes. Is there anything that can be done to cut down on this issue a bit? I have a screenshot as an example, but the wiki prevented me from adding it due to being a "new user" (even though I've had a Gamepedia account for years...) ShadowDragoonFTW (talk) 20:03, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

Instructions for reporting bad ads can be found at https://gamepedia.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115006403627-Reporting-Bad-AdvertisementsFerretwings (talk) 03:55, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
It's not just any random ad, It's the entire right-side column that is the space that allows the ads to be there. Maybe on a higher-resolution screen it looks fine, but on a 1366x768 resolution laptop monitor, it's pretty jarring to have so much cut off. And again, it's not the fact that "occasionally there's an ad that's really wide", it's THE PAGE LAYOUT ITSELF that is the issue. http://i.imgur.com/XlMGvW1.png ShadowDragoonFTW (talk) 04:00, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
Unfourtunately, this is likely out of the hands of the Terraria Wiki's editors, as the wiki's hosting company, Curse, is the sole decider of how ads are displayed. While steps could theoretically be taken to minimize the issue, there's no saying what might break if Curse decides to change up the ad display. If you have serious issues with it, you should probably contact Curse themselves. – KM100 (talk) 04:25, 30 June 2017 (UTC)

PRO Rank/Subscription

So I noticed recently that I had received a PRO rank on the wiki, could anyone give me information on what this means? Also, I noticed that it only shows up on some of my signatures, but my other signatures do not have the PRO icon, is this a bug? Thanks for looking into this! —Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 03:19, 30 June 2017 (UTC)

Gamepedia Pro is a premium subscription avaiable all across Gamepedia. As part of a rewards program, Curse gives away free pro ranks to any wiki editor that's active enough. The rank disables ads on all Gamepedia sites, grants a secure https connection, and (supposedly) displays your pro status to other users. To my knowledge, the pro icon is supposed to display all the time, but it seems to be a bit buggy right now as I can rarely see anyone else's icon, and sometimes don't even see my own. – KM100 (talk) 04:25, 30 June 2017 (UTC)

Category:Templates and Category:Icons

I have noticed that, despite the insane quantity of templates on this wiki, there are only 18, I repeat, 18 templates in the category. Anyone with a bot who can fix this? —Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 03:26, 30 June 2017 (UTC)

I have also noticed that there are only 15 icons in the Category:Icons page, and NONE of these icons include the mobile, desktop, 3DS, or console icons. Is this intentional? Thanks again! —Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 03:39, 30 June 2017 (UTC)

Most templates are exempt from the Templates category, as they appear in subcategories of the Templates category instead. For example, Mobile only is in the "Notice templates" and "Version templates" subcategories rather than the "Templates" category. As far as icons go, I don't think icons missing from the category is intentional, so feel free to categorize them. – KM100 (talk) 04:25, 30 June 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll try adding the icons. —Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 02:28, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

Chinese PE Terraria 1.3

On July 12, 2017, Terraria 1.3.0.7 PE (mobile) Chinese version began its beta testing (players will need to enter an activation code to participate in the beta testing). This version of Terraria is being produced by iDreamSky/Fun Games in partnership with 505 Games.
For more information, visit http://www.digitalbros.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/ENG_23052016-PRDigitalBros-ExclusiverightsofTerrariatoiDreamSky_encrypted.pdf and http://news.4399.com/tailaruiya/zixun/m/772702.html

In a statement from Pipeworks: "We wanted to provide a bit of clarification regarding some information circulating around the Chinese version of Terraria. First and foremost, the Chinese version is not an early build of what the rest of the world will receive. It's also important to note that this is a separate version being developed specifically for the Chinese market by iDreamsky, and Pipeworks is not involved with its on-going development; though we did provide iDreamSky with early code to help them hit the ground running. Once we complete work on the console update we will be shifting our focus to mobile and providing the community with frequent updates on what they can expect." -Pipeworks Studio, Aug 9, 2017 (source: https://twitter.com/pipeworks/status/895371934052999168)

shootSpeed(velocity) of some weapons is only technically correct?

In itemid.cs there's a set called gunProj. It lists three item ids: Vortex Beater(id: 3475), Phantasm(id: 3540) and Phantom Phoenix(id: 3854)
In item.cs all these weapons have their shootSpeed set to 20f, and that velocity is shown in their infoboxes
In player.cs PickAmmo is called in a way that weapons in gunProj set don't consume ammo(at this stage). Also their knockback, damage and speed are kind of "reset", but I'm guessing that tese projectiles don't actually hit anything.
Later in player.cs they each create their own special projectiles(names from projectileid.cs) VortexBeater(id: 615), Phantasm(id: 630), DD2PhoenixBow(id: 705)
In projectile.cs, in AI_075, these special projectiles create the actual projectiles, but they don't use the weapon's shootSpeed as the base. Instead they use hard-coded values. For VortexBeater and Phantasm 14f is used as base speed and for DD2PhoenixBow it's 12f.
Can someone try to verify this?
And if this is actually correct, does it belong in the infobox or just Trivia section?
Also trivia, gunProj likely stands for gunProjectiles, so terraria has guns that shoot guns. 86.115.19.146 18:21, 20 August 2017 (UTC)

Why Can't I Fish The Scaly Truffle?

I've been fishing for a Scaly Truffle for HOURS in different locations. I use a Golden Fishing Rod, Master Baits, all of the Angler clothes (hat, vest, and pants), and Fishing Potions. All that stuff gives me 130% fishing power which means I should have a 1/30-ish I think...? I'm not sure but I am certain that it's higher than 1/50. As you can see in the images shown below, I have tried multiple locations. I have read that you have to be in the cavern layers, the water has to be 300+ blocks, the biome has to be Crimson/Hallow/Corrupt but from what I've seen, most people have caught theirs in Hallow so that's what I went for (I have tried Crimson, but not corrupt). I have gone 520 blocks below the surface (I think, I don't have that tool that tells you how deep you need to go and the surface wasn't flat so I didn't know where it exactly started). I have gone a bit below the surface, high enough for Pixies to find me, but low enough where I can't see the surface. I also built my own lake by using pink ice blocks and it's exactly right above the underworld, but the backround isn't "snow/ice based". And lastly, I have gone right in between both locations. Please help me, I've spent way too long for this mount. By the way, I'm playing in IOS.

NOTE: In the one location, I saw a Pigron spawn but not exactly where I was fishing so I moved my water all the way towards it in hopes of seeing it again but after fishing 70+ fish, I gave up. Am I just impatient, in the wrong spot, or extremely unlucky?

You would probably receive better help on the official forum, but…
Presuming you sent most of the time in the lava layer, you've either been incredibly unlucky, or the item isn't in the game. I really doubt the item isn't in the game though, so you might want to use Sonar Potions for a while to make sure you haven't missed it. 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 22:50, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

This is mobile, right? Unfortunately you've wasted your time. You aren't unlucky, you aren't impatient, you're aren't in the wrong spot. But the mistake is, There is NO Scaly Truffle on the mobile version yet. It is because, the mobile version is still around 1.2.4 while the computer version is now around 1.3.5. --IosKent (Talk Page - Contribs) 07:27, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Maybe he is unlucky because I was able to get a Scaly Truffle somewhere along the line, as I have one in a chest in one of my forgotten worlds —Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 14:26, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

My New Account

On the header to this page, I see Shinobi19. Can that be changed to me? I made a new account, and I would like that to be changed. I will also update Shinobi19 to say that it is now me, because I haven't found a way to delete Gamepedia accounts. UltraComboJago (talk) 23:30, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

I've updated the header, but you can always edit your own place on the list at /header if necessary. :^) 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 00:25, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
Hmmm... if you had asked Gamepedia to rename your account, you would have kept your edit contributions and user talk page. We had an editor do that recently. It was a little confusing seeing the new name, lol! – Ferretwings (talk) 06:51, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

I just made a new account to go along with my new email. UltraComboJago (talk) 15:21, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

ReedemtheD3ad!s Recent Inactivity

Hi Guys. So, I have had some things come up recently as you could probably tell from my recent inactivity. And so, I will be gone for a little while more (a month or so), but I will be back and ready to help out. I will post a notice when I am back. Thank you all! ReedemtheD3ad (talk) 21:07, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

No problem, the wiki will be here when you get back :) I too have had to take some time off for some personal business, so I know how that goes. – Ferretwings (talk) 06:56, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. I may have a few minutes every once in a while to make a small edit or two, but mainly, I will be inactive. But, when I do get back, I should be back to my original activity. ReedemtheD3ad (talk) 20:39, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

PC version PC only, Mobile version Mobile only, 3DSNintendo 3DS version only, and Console version Console only Templates

So that more people could help out with this issue, I have posted this to the Community Noticeboard: So I noticed that on the desktop, console, mobile, and 3DS only pages say something like this: Version-Only Content, which, in a literal world, would link to Category:Version Content. However, only “Version” has a link. Are there any moderators who could temporarily un-protect it to make this edit, and are there any objections? Thanks for looking into this guys! —Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 18:47, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
As an extra note, apologies for inactivity. You know, THE HURRICANES. —Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 18:51, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
My final question: can anyone help me add a "nocat" variable to my Expert mode only template? I understand what must be accomplished, but Gamepedia is not one of my strong areas in coding. Thanks again! —Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 22:06, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

The reason that "[Version]-Only Content" doesn't have the whole phrase linked is because it wouldn't work with multi-version items. On a "Console/Mobile-Only Content" page, clicking the "-Only Content" would have link to two places at the same time, which would be impossible.
That would cause some problems definitely it’s fine as is if that is the case. —Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 12:13, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
Also, the Expert mode only template already has a nocat function (added by User:4e696e6a6f795844). Just add "nocat = yes" if you want to use it. – KM100 (talk) 22:28, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for telling me how to use it, I’ll make sure to thank him for adding that—Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 12:13, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

Undefined

(The section title is correct.) I noticed that when I pressed cancel when creating a page, it sent me to the page Undefined. So that others would understand what had happened and how to go back to the creation page, I “created” the page. I tested canceling creation of a page, and it redirected to Undefined with the description I made, so it can be a temporary fix. However, I was wondering whether there is anybody who has the authority and skill to fix this Undefined redirect. —Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 20:10, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

Apparently, this bug only occurs on mobile web browsers, on the desktop site (mobile users have an option to use the mobile site or the desktop site). —Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 22:53, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
This seems to happen on desktop browsers too; there are two cancel buttons. Pressing the red one at the bottom of the page will return you as normal, while pushing the gray one at the top-right will take you to Undefined. This same issue happens on a handful of other Gamepedia wikis too, so I'm not entirely sure what's causing it, though I don't think it's able to be fixed by any Terraria Wiki editor. – KM100 (talk) 22:28, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

1.3 Wiki Preparations

I am making a new page here where anyone can add to the list of things to do on the wiki upon the 1.3 update for Console version Console and Mobile version Mobile. When the update does release, you can delete items from the list as you complete changes (or if a bot has completed the change). Any objections? —Awesome_Diamonds (talk) 00:54, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

The page might get a bit barren after the release of 1.3 on other versions, but I think the page should be fine at the moment. – KM100 (talk) 22:28, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

Ads and the mobile site

Ok. Enough is enough. The ads on this wiki have gotten out of control. At the start, it was ok, quit a few near-definite malicous ads at the bottom and top of pages, but it was fine as long as you were careful where you click. Then, video ads started popping up. To sum up these, I would like to be able to browse this site without having a heart attack every time I go to a new page or open up a new tab (I know that I could just mute my computer, but sometimes I also want to listen to music, y'know?) and then subsequently scanning through every page's adverts to find the right one to make it SHUT UP! However, this was bearable. Then came along the "around the web" section. Sometimes, this appears at the side of the page and cramps up the page incredibly, but that's uncommon enough to not be much of a hassle. The fact that it is obvious, insulting, unpleasant clickbait is just terrible, though. And finally, now ads that physically force your screen down/up to it. I came here to find out what the best way to kill a boss is, not how to assemble a doorbell (or whatever it is). Its even worse when 2 appear, then you might end up with your computer going crazy flitting between the top and bottom of the page like crazy, with the only way around any of this is to use the occasional brief lull between the ad finishing and restarting. So all in all, wile I love Terraria and all the beautiful info on this wiki, these ads are just getting stupid. Whether I'm complaining to the right person or not I don't know. But someone needs to sort out what ads this website shows, because from the start they have been terrible and only gotten worse. In unrelated news, this all could just be my phone (#hopeless), but the mobile site is dying. A: constant crashes for no reason (I'll put this one down to my phone as it does it on other websites as well) B: layout errors galore! Text properly sized to fit the screen, tables SOMETIMES compress themselves to be scroll-able horizontally, but most of the time regardless of the table failing there is a humongous empty space to the right of every page for no apparent reason. C:In typical moblie fashion, all of the catagories on a page is compressed. This is fine, up until they make the page absolutely unresponsive just because you try to open one (again, could be my phone, but also the ADS could play some part in this, especially the one slap bamg in the middle of the page.). I'm sorry if I sound angry or am insulting anyone, but this is how I feel. Thanks for reading. RIP Ocram... — Preceding unsigned comment added by September 24, 2017 1:29 PM EST‎ (talkcontribs) at 109.156.62.42

Main Page

The Main Page is protected, so are there any admins who can edit these:

  • Android doesn’t have a link to buy for Amazon nor Android
  • It says that 3DS is the equivalent of desktop 1.2, but it doesn’t say that it won’t receive future updates (that would be added so that new players seeking to buy the game may be assisted in their decision)

Thanks for looking into it! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 18:47, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

The links are there. Perhaps it isn't obvious that they are "buy" links. I'll need to fix that. As for 3DS, space on the page is at a premium. We'd rather not add more information. It should be sufficient to list the version on the main page, and then if a user wants more information, they can go to the 3DS page. I have played around with some formatting on the Terraria_Wiki/sandbox in preparation for the console release (you can see the current version and my proposed version of the right-side boxes). – Ferretwings (talk) 01:16, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
Additionally, while the main page is indeed protected, proposed changes or fixes are always welcome. This is the purpose of Terraria Wiki/editcopy. Make changes there, and an admin will update as necessary. Chrisf1020 (talk) 12:06, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
Didn’t know I could edit an editcopy page. Thanks for your inputs and looking into it! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 12:11, 30 September 2017 (UTC)

Commenting On Users

One day, I was browsing the wiki, and went to post a comment on my profile, but it said I needed to confirm my email. I went ahead and confirmed it, but the notice that I can’t comment is still there, does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks for looking into it! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 14:17, 30 September 2017 (UTC)

Curious, you're the second editor who has reported this. Have you tried deleting your cookies? – Ferretwings (talk) 18:50, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
Just deleted/cleared cookies and relogged, strangely it is still not letting me comment. It’s a minor issue, so it’s okay for me if it’s not fixed yet, but if you like you can keep searching for the other user—ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 12:51, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
I checked with the Gamepedia staff, and other editors are having the same issue. They're looking into it. – Ferretwings (talk) 21:23, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

History Sections: Version Separation

As many of you may have noticed, I have been separating history sections into subsections of versions. Any feedback (good, bad, or neither)? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 18:35, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

I think the subsection headers for history are a bit large for the one/two lines that follow. Bold font would work better in my opinion. 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 22:56, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
This suggestion came up before, and it sort of died (or maybe it simply got put on the back burner). I do like the idea. I suggest a small change to the history template: Template:History/sandbox. Look at the Terraria_Wiki:Sandbox for an idea on how it would be used. – Ferretwings (talk) 15:06, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
History/Sandbox looks pretty good. Do you think it should stay where it is, or should it be moved to History2 (or even replace history later on with the help of a bot)? Also, maybe a bot could go to history sections adding a notification banner saying that it needs version separation? Thanks for your feedback! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 18:05, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
I'll give the other editors and admins some time to mull it over. The changes would be added to the current History template, as I haven't added anything that would break existing pages. I may play with the header size first. – Ferretwings (talk) 21:20, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
It looks nice, and, had I heard about it before, I would have approved of it. However, with the whole "One Terraria" project that's being worked on, I don't know if it would really be necessary. With all modern versions slated to receive updates at about the same time as each other, it'd end up with the history section as just the same information repeated three times over. I think it would be more helpful to split the history section by when versions of Terraria are discontinued, so players on obsolete versions can see what changes are the most recent for those versions. – KM100 (talk) 14:19, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
True... Maybe we could compromise with something like this:

test4 —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 23:29, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

I've recently updated Template:History/sandbox and Terraria_Wiki:Sandbox if you'd like to have a look. – Ferretwings (talk) 17:44, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
That looks awesome! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 14:11, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
I saw your new comment on the history page, I agree that it should be called something like “Platform-Specific Updates” —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 04:53, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Crafting Recipes

Our wiki currently uses the Template:Crafting recipe to hold the crafting recipe for each item on its page. On some pages, we found the template to be insufficient - namely, on group pages like Table and all the other furniture. On these pages we use Template:Crafts because it is more space efficient.

It has been suggested by a couple of editors that perhaps we should switch over to using Template:Crafts for all pages. This should not be the decision of just one or two people, as it affects every craftable item on the wiki (many edits, lol). Please take the time to think about it, and weigh in on the suggestion. – Ferretwings (talk) 00:13, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

P.S. If you'd like to compare the two versions, using the Obsidian Skull recipe click here for the proposed change... click here for the old version. – Ferretwings (talk) 00:32, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Template:Crafts is organized in an easier-to read, more space-efficient way than Template:Crafting recipe. For better-designed, consistent recipes for both the item and its materials, we should use Template:Crafts. 173.48.69.222 00:28, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
I agree that it is easier to read and more space efficient, but it's not necessarily easy to use. Often the code for the crafting recipe template is easy to edit and type out, whereas its crafts counterpart is a complicated sequence of |s with parameters such as toolspan/top being necessary to understand for the template to work properly. A new editor who hasn't checked the documentation out might have trouble with it. 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 01:11, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

The Issue of Nintendo 3DS version and the Templates

Before 1.3 comes out on consoles and mobile devices, I was wondering what should happen with 3DS. Since lots of new content will be rolling out, there will be lots of pages with

PC versionConsole versionOld-gen console versionMobile version
PC/Console/Old-gen console/Mobile-Only Content: This information applies only to the PC, Console, Old-gen console, and Mobile versions of Terraria.

So what I was thinking we could do is make a Unavailable where it could say something like “This content is not available on 3DS and old-gen consoles.” Or should we disregard 3DS and just not put an exclusive template at all? I’m open to any suggestions —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 14:16, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Edit, I made Old content and New content templates, any feedback?
Regarding banners, I considered making some a number of months ago. I placed the project on hold, because there were a couple of other issues that needed addressing. One of the issues regards the number of banners on the page. I feel we should never have more than one banner at the top, because they do take up a lot of room. When looking at the page on mobile, it is quite evident. A single banner template, such as Template:Exclusive can be used. Some ideas I had (for usage) were:
Available only on PC version PC

* Even with the "One" Terraria, there will always be a gap... the Desktop version is always released first.

Available only on PC version PC, Template:Xbox one version, and PlayStation 4
Expert mode item
Available only on PC version PC, Template:Xbox one version, and PlayStation 4

* All content between 1.2.4 and 1.3
* Some players may not realize that their console platform is considered "old" so it may be best to list the platforms

Available only on WiiU, Template:Xbox 360 version, File:Ps icon.png PS3, PSVita, and 3DSNintendo 3DS version

* All those console exclusives that are being removed will still be available on the old-gen consoles.
* When only stats change, we can just use icons (or an "old-gen" icon which can display the platforms when moused over).

Available on all platforms except 3DSNintendo 3DS version [due to ...]

* All/most content between 1.2 and 1.2.4
* When an item is unavailable due to hardware limitations, it might be good to add an explanation (sent to the template as a param)

Available on all platforms

* maybe?

Ferretwings (talk) 17:00, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
Sorry for the late reply, but those look pretty good. Just updated your svg images to be in template form. Also, I’m slightly concerned about my sig, I read the rules and it says the sigs that are different than the actual username is malicious... Is mine an exception since it’s redirected to User:Awesome diamonds? Thanks! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 04:38, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
But then again... Exclusive may have stolen the idea, but it might be able to be modified for use with the Xbox One, PS4, etc. Also, about the allversions, it’s a viable option, since much of the content on the wiki will become exclusive over time. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 04:42, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

Also an unrelated question, it seems that the Naturalgen only I made has some code flaw or something that makes it take up an insane amount of space below it on pages, anyone know how to fix it? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 14:21, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Took care of it :) – Ferretwings (talk) 23:14, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

Finally, would it be a good idea to add a functionality where exclusive can have an expert=y to output expert mode only? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 14:23, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

I think it would be a good idea to use a single banner (the exclusive template) to inform wiki users that an item is Expert mode and also which platforms have it.– Ferretwings (talk) 23:14, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

Final (actual final) thing: I noticed that Expert seems to no longer link to Expert mode (unless it’s just me). Also, is there a reason that we do not have a desktop version page? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 17:07, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Pointing Treasure Bag(bossname) to correct section of the Treasure Bag page

Currently treasure bag in boss infoboxes links to a "Treasure Bag (bossname)" page that redirects to top of the Treasure Bag page. I'd like to try to change those redirects to point to Treasure Bag#bossname, and add id="bossname" to the specific boss bag tables on the Treasure Bag page, to make those infobox links scroll to the relevant section of the page. I don't think it would break anything, and it'd make comparing normal and expert mode drops easier. Just asking if anyone has objections or comments. 86.115.19.146 20:58, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

No objections, I’d say go ahead —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 15:51, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
Did the changes, seems to be working as I intended, but feel free to revert the changes for any reason(I learned that I don't actually understand how the backend works and I just got lucky). 86.115.19.146 17:52, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

Armor image replacement

User:Awesome diamonds recently tagged some old files for deletion, and as a result I ended up looking through Special:UnusedFiles to find that there are quite a few images that are simply separated versions of files such as File:Cobalt armor female.png and File:Titanium_armor_female.png. A lot of the files are deprecated and unused, so I was planning to delete most of the separate files, however, I was wondering if anyone else might see a potential purpose for them. 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 13:16, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

Possibly it could be used in a gallery, in Template:Cobalt, or wherever File:Cobalt armor female.png takes up too much space. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 13:30, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

Phoenix Blaster tips inconsistencies?

This might seem pedantic (sorry), but I noticed that in the tips for the "Phoenix Blaster" it states that "It is not recommended to upgrade your Handgun to a Phoenix Blaster because the Phoenix Blaster does not autofire." (emphasis on NOT). The sentence firstly leads one to infer that the Handgun DOES have auto-fire, and upgrading would get rid of it- this would be incorrect (at least according the Handgun page since it doesn't have auto-fire either). Secondly the line above it suggests that the Phoenix Blaster is useful until early-mid hard-mode, well after it's obtainable, this advice would be moot if one shouldn't upgrade to it over the Handgun. Why wouldn't someone upgrade it since it literally is a pure upgrade according to the 2 pages. It seems like the advice to NOT upgrade should just be removed, or is there another reason this tip is here, could this use some clarification perhaps? Darkl88 (talk) 07:13, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

Regarding the autofire, you are correct. An editor added icons for desktop and console, but this note is only relevant to mobile users. I've corrected it. – Ferretwings (talk) 15:17, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

New Mobile Update

I have been looking at the news for mobile updates, and it says the upddate should come in the second half of 2017. ITs already October so im wondering, is the update still happening, is there a specific date for the update now, or has it been delayed to next year?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.33.142.82 at 05:09, October 16, 2017‎ (UTC)

Luckily, it’s not delayed until next year yet. However, the update is estimated November, next month, to December. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 12:12, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Editing

Hello, I would like to be added to the list of trusted editors. Do I add myself, or do I have to make more helpful edits to the wiki to become one? I don't want to come across as pushy, I was just wondering. Giga 5 (talk) 22:20, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Also, What's the difference between a user's talk page and community noticeboard discussion?

Thanks! -Giga_5 Giga 5 (talk) 22:20, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

(1)What I did to get there was I went to the top section and added a new reply, and just said my basic experience with the wiki as an editor and Terraria as a player/ability to playtest, and finally what version (e.g. Nintendo 3DS version) I had. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 11:41, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
You also might need more edits, I can’t be sure, but it’s still definitely worth a shot —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 11:43, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
(2) They both function about the same way, except the community noticeboard is usually better noticed/visited more frequently. The user talk pages are less visited (except the user who has the talk page, who would get a notification when there’s a new comment).
Basically, I think of it like this: user talk pages for asking specific users questions, and noticeboard for issues where everyone can pitch in and help answer the question —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 11:41, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

Media uploading

Would it be rude to upload a gif to a page that already has a stationary image for an example on it (E.g. The K.O cannon) I love to make gifs but I am having trouble finding weapons/other items to make them of. Any ideas? Giga 5 (talk) 20:03, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

I think it would be a great idea to upload a gif for pages with only a stationary image. I’m not sure where else gifs would be needed (but there are many pages without a gif and only an image), but you’ll probably find something :) —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 00:04, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
EDIT: The Rudolph Mount also doesn’t have a gif, so you could make one for that —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟ (talk) 00:12, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the idea! I uploaded it. If you have any more ideas, drop it on my talk page! Thx again. Giga 5 (talk) 00:37, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
Could you record it when it's not raining, lol? – Ferretwings (talk) 04:51, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
It's important to note that, if a page doesn't have a gif, that doesn't mean it necessarily needs one. Gifs with things, like rain, set bonuses, pets/light pets, can end up as less of an informative video and more of a distraction. In general, gifs should only be placed on pages that need them to convey a point or demonstrate unusual behavior, and even then should be high-quality and mostly distraction free. – KM100 (talk) 13:28, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
Ok, sorry. :( I am perhaps too enthusiastic about helping out, what should I do now? I love terraria as a game, but I don't know what i should do. Giga 5 (talk) 01:23, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
Unless there’s a compromise... maybe you could upload images (I’m not that good with gifs and stuff like that, but maybe images would work) in a gallery section, or maybe even gifs? Gallery sections are dedicated to images and gifs, and won’t distract from the text. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 04:29, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I there a specific gallery section, or do I have to make one for every page? Giga 5 (talk) 14:29, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

You would have to make one with
Gallery
&lt;gallery&gt;

That is, once somebody else besides me approves of this idea (just to make sure no rules are broken or anything) —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 15:35, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
Also, can I use a fact or two from the wiki in my own website, if I give credit to the wiki? Giga 5 (talk) 14:31, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
You can use a few facts from the wiki on your site. I don’t know how the Copyright works though, I think that facts are not restricted by, but I’m not sure... I would give credit just in case. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 15:35, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
Look at the bottom of the pages you intend to use. Most, if not all, user generated content pages have "Content is available under CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 unless otherwise noted." with a link to creative commons page that explains the terms. 86.115.19.146 15:50, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
Alright, thanks! :D Giga 5 (talk) 22:03, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I just added a gif for the Asphalt Block that I think matches with KM100's specifications. It does have a "unique" property, so I think it's appropriate, but I guess you guys are the experts. What do you think?

I'd normally be a bit iffy on whether or not asphalt is unique enough for a gif, but I think this turned out quite well; it's quite professional looking, and fits in nicely with the page. Either way, the rules for wiki editing are pretty lenient, so don't be too afraid to experiment with editing pages and adding content. – KM100 (talk) 02:11, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks! I will try to make more gifs with your specifications. ;D Giga 5 (talk) 03:25, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

Editing Errors

(Image deleted)
I found this new error every time I edit (above). It gives me an error after I upload or edit an image or page. respectively. The edit is saved, but it does get quite annoying, was there a recent coding change to the wiki, or is this an error just for me? If you know how to fix it, please share —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 12:12, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

This also happened to me when I tried to upload a gif over 1400 pixels wide and 1200 pixels tall. It could also be the recent Amazon Hosting service migration all of Gamepedia took, and there are different ways to edit. Giga 5 (talk) 13:56, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

That could be, I'll stay tuned —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 00:10, 27 October 2017 (UTC)

It appears this glitch has stopped happening, it may just occur with uploads now, if that helps narrow it down —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 00:12, 27 October 2017 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply... They are aware of the problem. "These are issues we are working to resolve, but we have no quick fixes for them right now. The images will show up and behave consistently eventually, but does require some patience. Our apologies. -alianin" – Ferretwings (talk) 16:23, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

Special:Random and the Mainspace

Recently, I created the pages Undefined (for users who got the error and were redirected there) and Upload (for a convenient link). However, Special:Random has a very small chance of going to those pages, so is there a way (like adding certain Magic words) to remove it from the random probability logic of Special:Random? If not, would there be any coders who could do this? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 00:10, 27 October 2017 (UTC)

Nevermind, this should be a minor issue. Redirects apparently are not navigated to ever by Special:Random, and Undefined should be fine since it has a nice little explanation —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 14:23, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
Apparently the extra cancel button was since removed, tagged Undefined for deletion —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 14:38, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

New Project

I will have some small bits of time here and there to do some editing now. I would like to start a new project on the wiki. It would involve extensive reorginazation of files. The purpose is to make it easier to use the files. The two main things I would like to focus on in this project are categorizing and notating them. For categorization, I think there should be smaller categories within the category: "Terraria Images". I am thinking something like seperating them into two main categories, "Game Screenshots", and "Game Content". Within "Game Content", I am thinking of seperating them further to categories such as "Item Images", "Projectile Images", "NPC Images", etc. Now as for the notation, I am thinking of adding what the image is based on the local English Name and the internal source code name and if there are other uses based off of identical files.

For some Examples: for Stylish Scissors.png, there would be:

Image file for:

  • Item: Stylish Scissors
    • Original Image Name: Item_3352.png
    • Internal Name: StylistKilLaKillScissorsIWish
    • Internal ID: 3352

For Ancient Storm.png there would be,

Image file for:

  • Projectile: Ancient Storm
    • Original Image Name: Projectile_656.png
    • Internal Name: SandnadoFriendly
    • Internal ID: 656
  • Projectile: Ancient Storm
    • Original Image Name: Projectile_657.png
    • Internal Name: SandnadoHostile
    • Internal ID: 657
  • Projectile: Whirlwind of Infinite Wisdom
    • Original Image Name: Projectile_704.png
    • Internal Name: DD2ApprenticeStorm
    • Internal ID: 704

Please let me know if this is a good idea to start. Also, if you have any suggestions to add, modify, or remove any part from this project propsal let me know. I am open to what you all think will be best for the Wiki. Thank you all. ReedemtheD3ad (talk) 00:56, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

I have always been hoping for someone who could do this, that would be awesome! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 01:32, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
That's quite a project you've taken on :) I tried to get another editor to do something similar, but they weren't with us very long. I feel this would be most beneficial, and would aid in searching for data in the source files. – Ferretwings (talk) 16:39, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
Alright, Thanks. I think I will start with the Categorization and then move on to the notation. I will also probably be updating some of the Files as I go as I know some are outdated. I can start shortly. ReedemtheD3ad (talk) 17:24, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
I will help as much as I can! I know i'm kind of a newbie around here, but I can take images of items/projectiles/etc that do not already have an image. I also memorized a lot of internal ID numbers (mods I use require IDs to spawn items and npcs) so I could help with that. Tell me (via talk page or other) what I should help with. Giga 5 (talk) 02:23, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
Im not sure I understand correctly what you want to do but if you explain it a bit more I could help you. Im all for categorizing images properly but im VERY STRONGLY against changing the names of the files to stuff like Item_3352.png --Leonord cursetalk」 09:56, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I am definitely not suggesting changing the file names. The main thing I want to do is categorize the files down some more as having 9000+ files in only one big category seems to be a bit to much. The other thing is just making a Notes section onto the file pages themselves containing information about the image to help with locating it within the source code and files and usage on the wiki.

Second, to answer Giga5, Yes, I would definately love to have help in this as it is a lenghtly project. I already have all of the source files ready to be uploaded if needed. The main thing we should focus on now is Categorization. Using HotCat is definately useful in speeding up the process. ReedemtheD3ad (talk) 21:48, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

Ah I think I get it now. We would just write that filename in the notes. Well send me a link to the data if you want some help. Are you on discord? --Leonord cursetalk」 08:05, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

I do not know how to use HotCat on Gamepedia, only on Wikipedia. Can you help me? Thanks. :) Giga 5 (talk) 00:22, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Oh, wait, nevermind. Finally found the gadgets bar! :) Giga 5 (talk) 00:27, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

@User:Leonord curse Yes I am on Discord. I can definitely send you the source files. I would love the help. Thank you. ReedemtheD3ad (talk) 00:31, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Usernames

I was just wondering, how do you change your username color? Ferretwings and Awesome_Diamonds have colors on their nametags. Do I use a hexadecimal value somewhere, or only DodgerBlue and SpringGreen and the like because i'm a normal twitch user? Thanks. Giga 5 (talk) 14:56, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

If you edit your profile, you see a number of settings you can change. Near the bottom, you can set your signature.
You can use just about any html/wiki code, but only a certain number of characters can be typed in that tiny edit box. Mine is set to &ndash; <span style="color:#00755E; font:bold 15px Comic Sans MS,Arial">Ferretwings</span> (<span style="color:#800020; font:bold 13px Comic Sans MS,Arial">talk</span>) which is about the maximum number of characters. – Ferretwings (talk) 15:44, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks! I do not know html or wiki code, so i'll just leave it be (I do know Java and C++ though). Is wiki code its own code, or is it based on something else? Giga 5 (talk) 20:01, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

Wikicode is derived from MediaWiki's code (just scroll down to the bottom of any page and click the mediawiki logo to see their site). I’m pretty sure it’s like an HTML-CSS hybrid —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 21:20, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
I messed around with it, and i'm pretty happy with it Giga 5 (talk) 03:49, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

Various very important lists needed in wiki

List of weapons that pass through blocks

List of weapons with area/splash damage

List of piercing weapons

List of enemies doing explosive damage — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.231.40.172 at 10:59, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

Transcluded to Terraria Wiki:List of Proposed EditsϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 02:05, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

Should these lists be their own article, within the Weapons page? Giga 5 (talk) 23:13, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

I would give each list it's own page. We could add appropriate flags to the item infobox, and then use dpl to retrieve the lists. Possible flags: passthrough (not fond of the name), piercing, aoe (perhaps this should be a value). Explosive damage? Could this be found in the source code? That one may be a little more difficult to handle. – Ferretwings (talk) 23:33, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
I did add "enemies doing explosive damage" because player should be cautious when fighting enemies that can destroy tiles, especially near their base/house, but I am not sure any enemy like past clown exist anymore. So, you can either forget about that list or change it to "enemies doing area damage" to warn players to not to only be cautious about direct hits.
That's in mind here is idea for a new list: "List of weapons that can destroy tiles" so you should be especially cautious when using them near your house/base.
Sorry, this is my first time contributing a wiki, I don't know if I should add here or somewhere else when I think new lists or ideas. 85.101.226.84 13:09, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
What weapons can destroy tiles? (other than bombs and dynamite) I don't think any weapons can destroy tiles. (It's true that pickaxes and similar tools deal damage, but that's not their main purpose, so the're classified as 'tools') Giga 5 (talk) 14:21, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
You can add list ideas here if you want, unless you have a really big list, and then you can start a new discussion :) Giga 5 (talk) 14:23, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
Umm, some rockets for example and land mine maybe. I don't know if there is more but if these are only examples then there is not a need for creating a list just for these in my opinion. 85.101.226.84 14:51, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
It's ok. Sorry if I came across as rude earlier. :D Giga 5 (talk) 17:54, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Available on and Exclusive

Which one should be used? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 18:17, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

When I created Available on I didn't realize that another editor had already created a similar template Exclusive. They aren't quite the same, and I began incorporating some of 'Available on' into 'Exclusive'. The name 'Exclusive' is quite descriptive of its function (and shorter, lol), so I'd go with 'Exclusive'. I'd like to keep 'Available on' for a bit longer, but have been using 'Exclusive'... exclusively :) – Ferretwings (talk) 19:44, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
Got it, should I put a deprecated warning in the doc (so that new editors know not to use it)? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 23:32, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
Nevermind, it seems you beat me to it ;). Also, good pun there, just noticed that —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 23:34, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
Almost forgot, I have another question concerning Exclusive: the sandbox2 is a little out of date, so when the changes are automatically applied it may erase some edits (like the nocat-section collaboration). Will we just have to manually move the expert function? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 23:36, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
There isn't anything 'automatic'. Once an editor is finished with a sandbox, it is up to them to move information over to the main template/page. They should be aware that changes may have been made to the main template/page, and may want to update their sandbox first and test it again. When they're done with it, I suppose the sandbox should be cleared so others know they're done. No need to delete the sandbox, as I'm sure it will be used again. If a template has a sandbox2, I would flag it for deletion after you're done with it. – Ferretwings (talk) 00:04, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
However, if a template has been protected, then an admin needs to be asked to do the updating. – Ferretwings (talk) 00:09, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

It may be confusing to novice viewers, for "available on" kind of sounds like it is present on all platforms, but its special properties or something isn't. For example, if I was just starting terraria, and I think the Zapinator looks cool, and I see "available on 3DS" I might assume that it is present on PC and mobile, just the page for it is referencing the "3DS version of the weapon". This is just an idea, so you do what you think is right :) Giga 5 (talk) 23:22, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

True, I’ll make that slight modification before it gets deprecated or something —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 23:32, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

Wall crafts

As many of you may have noticed, I made a new wall crafts template, so that all walls could be updated quickly if needed. As I was going through the wood walls, I realized that all of the pages were pretty much the exact same, except for the names listed (which could be fixed up with a little ). Maybe they could all be merged into Wood Wall, like the wands are? (And then a Example could automatically fill out each section, or everything could simply be copy-pasted) —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 13:42, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

I like it. However... there is a project I keep putting off, that may (or may not) conflict with what you've done. Perhaps you would like to take it on yourself? I'll continue this on your talk page, since it may get rather lengthy. – Ferretwings (talk) 06:37, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Sorry for late reply, I’ll go ahead to my talk page —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 15:20, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Editing Issues

So I have been experiencing some strange things when trying to edit. In a project I am working on, when I try to make an edit on a large page, it throws me a "500 Internal Server Error." I have tried on multiple web browsers, making small edits, and making edits on other large pages. I still get that error. Why is this happening? I have very fast internet and more than sufficient Ram so that shouldn't be the issue. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 02:34, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

I get the same error. I just reported it. I'll let you know what they say. – Ferretwings (talk) 06:11, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
Terraria Wiki has had some major back-end changes happening, moving servers etc, and they're still working on smoothing this out.
500 errors (or 501, 502, etc) have nothing to do with your internet speed or browser. They are server errors on our end and they're being worked on. You can continue to report these, just be specific -- what you were trying to do (save an edit, view a page, upload a file) and which error number or message you got. I'll pass these along to the Gamepedia techs as they come.
I'd anticipate some intermittent issues over the next few days at least while these things get sorted out. I'll do my best to keep everyone updated. Thanks for your patience! Equazcion (talk) 06:45, 9 Nov 2017 (UTC)

Curiously, there was no error number. I'll try to duplicate it and take a screenshot. – Ferretwings (talk) 07:56, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
Oh okay, I think I know the type of message you're talking about. Do grab a screenshot though, if you see it again. It might help. I have passed this along though, thanks :) Equazcion (talk) 08:03, 9 Nov 2017 (UTC)
I've got a screenshot, but I get a 500 error when I try to upload it. Ironic? – Ferretwings (talk) 08:10, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
Ha yeah. You don't need to upload it here, you can use tinypic, picpaste, or whatever, and just leave a link or something here (or in discord). Equazcion (talk) 08:12, 9 Nov 2017 (UTC)
I'm heading off for tonight. To be continued tomorrow. Anyone can feel free to continue posting any issues, especially new ones that haven't been posted yet. Thanks again for your patience while we get this all sorted out. Equazcion (talk) 08:16, 9 Nov 2017 (UTC)

Thank goodness it saved, had me a bit scared there. If it helps, this is the only page I can edit successfully thus far, might be something about different namespaces migrating first? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 14:31, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
EDIT: Guide namespace appears to be the only thing I can’t edit. I do still believe it is the namespace doing it though. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 14:52, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
ANOTHER EDIT: Uploading appears to be broken too, and gives the same error. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 15:04, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
My guess is that the problematic page loads are fairly random, despite any patterns you might be noticing regarding namespaces etc. Thanks for the reports! I've passed these along to the techs and they're continuing to look into these. Equazcion (talk) 15:07, 9 Nov 2017 (UTC)
Ok. Thanks for the replies. It makes me fell a little better knowing that it isn't just me experiencing the issues. I was trying to edit a page in my sandbox. I could not submit an edit unless the page was small. If I tried, it displayed to me the "500 Internal Server Error ngix/1.10.3 (Ubuntu)." I am glad that it is getting worked on though. I will see if I am still getting that error today. Again, Thanks. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 01:17, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Lengthy Noticeboard

I have noticed that this Community Noticeboard Page has become quite Lengthy. With this Discussion being the 76th currently. Many of the current discussions are long since closed. Should they be put into the archive? What is the limit in which it is decided to archive? – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 01:32, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Yeah probably time. I've just now archived everything before June 2017. Thanks for the suggestion. Equazcion (talk) 01:36, 10 Nov 2017 (UTC)
No problem. Just noticed that it was a little cumbersome to have to scroll down past some old discussions. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 01:57, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Wiki migration

My humblest apologies for not posting this earlier.

On October 16th, 2017, Gamepedia began the process of migrating their wikis to a new host, Amazon Web Services. Terraria Wiki was moved on November 6th, and continues to experience page errors with each wiki migration. Gamepedia staff are aware of the problems, and are working to solve them. – Ferretwings (talk) 03:32, 14 November 2017 (UTC)

Update: The Gamepedia migration completed on November 15th. Gamepedia staff are now dealing with a number of post-migration issues. Known issues: Image uploading and displaying, search errors, page load/save errors, and IPs beginning with 172.31 (these are internal IP addresses which should never be blocked). Measures have been put in place to reduce the number of spammers and vandals, and Gamepedia staff are working to find other ways. Please continue to report new problems. – Ferretwings (talk) 16:29, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

Page errors

Today, we encountered 500, 504, 525, and "website is offline" errors. Some css issues have already been resolved. If you are experiencing problems not yet mentioned, please comment below. – Ferretwings (talk) 03:32, 14 November 2017 (UTC)

Besides an occasional weird font-reset to Times New Roman, it seems all issues have been fixed, but more may pop up —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 04:06, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
Occasionally links that are on a page (within the wiki) link back to the home page, instead of the corresponding page. Also, sometimes after I leave the wiki then come to back the community noticeboard, the box that normally says "Your edit was Saved" pops up and says "{confirmation-postedit-null}" (without the quotation marks) or something like that. The fact that it says "postedit" leads me to assume that it is confirming that an earlier edit that I had made was saved, although I don't know for sure. Giga 5 (talk) 04:21, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
The next time you find a link error, please record which page the link was on, and where it was supposed to link to, so I can try to duplicate the error.
I have seen the edit saved message myself on a number of occasions (it is an old issue). After things settle down after the wiki migrations, we'll try to figure that one out. I'll see if I can't duplicate that saved message, and take a screenshot (and if you see it before me, please take a screenshot). Right now, we're trying to fix anything that gets broken during the migration. – Ferretwings (talk) 05:42, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
It seems that every time I make an edit, especially with an edit summary, it logs me out and doesn't save the edit.
I've already specifically added terraria.gamepedia.com to my allowed cookies list, but to no avail. Anyone who can help? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 22:56, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
So far, so good, it seems at least the noticeboard is working. But I can't edit my userpage to tell people why I put a recent changes transclude since the editing is glitched —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 22:57, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
It appears Userspace is the only namespace affected, have been testing. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 23:05, 19 November 2017 (UTC)

Editing Guide:Enemy_farming, I didn't get logged out, but when I hit "save" it bounced me back to the wikitext view. Pro

Yesterday I checked this wiki to see if I had any notifications, then I noticed that I had the pro symbol next to my name. However, today it disappeared. I was wondering if it was an error, because all of the people that have pro on here seemed to have been here a long time and are close to being/are admins. However, I could see the pro icon on my name on all of my discussions. I was just wondering if it was a mistake because I don't want to take credit for someone else's work. :) Giga 5 (talk) 00:08, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

This might be a glitch. If it is, don't worry, you aren't taking credit for anyone's work.
However, you don't need to be close to becoming an admin in order to have a Pro badge. You just need to be a consistent contributor over the course of a month or two (the exact criticaleria isn't published). Normally you'd get an email telling you if you were getting Pro, but the servers are a bit wonky right now. It's possible you have it but weren't notified -- and it may have disappeared because they've always been a little glitchy like that, disappearing and re-appearing from everyone's names.
Here https://help.gamepedia.com/UserProfile:Giga_5 the Pro badge displayed for you, last time I looked. If you disable any ad blockers and you still don't see an advertisement sidebar while logged in, chances are you do have Pro on your account. Equazcion (talk) 16:45, 16 Nov 2017 (UTC)

New Templates

I created some new templates that can be used to rotate images and other elements. This can eliminate the need for multiple duplicate files that are simply rotated. They are Template:Flip and Template:Rotate. Template:Mirror is another but was already created. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 23:59, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

I created another new template for Old Gen Content. What do you guys think? User:ReedemtheD3ad/Sandbox/Templates/Template:Old gen contentReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 17:34, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
This looks good. All I would add is the old-gen icon (so new readers know what the icon means) and then make the colors a little lighter. 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 18:12, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
I updated it. Is that better? – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 18:16, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

Foreign Use Files

I was thinking of making a page for files which have foreign uses (those used in the interwiki system for the Terraria wiki in other languages or Terraria Mod Wikis). This page would display all of the images so that they don't show up in Special:UnusedFiles. What do you guys think? – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 01:55, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

If there were a way to keep that page updated automatically I would say yes, but I think a page like that would constantly be out-of-date as time went by. Equazcion (talk) 02:14, 1 Dec 2017 (UTC)
I guess that is a good point. I guess the best thing to do is mark the pages with the nodelete Template so they don't get mistakenly deleted? – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 02:47, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
Marking them with nodelete seems like a good idea, but I do agree with Equazcion, it would be nice if we had an automatically updating page for interwiki files. — Awesome diamonds via 172.58.168.74 22:54, 13 December 2017 (UTC)

Terraria Licenses

There currently are two licenses for Terraria based images, Terraria and Terraria other. I think a the "other" part of the name is a bit vague. Perhaps we should change the name to "Screenshots and Artwork" or even split it into two separate licenses, "Screenshots" and "Artwork" for each? That would require the original Terraria one to be changed to "Source" or something along those lines. If anyone else has any input on how to make the licenses better, please add to this discussion. Thank you all. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 02:12, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

Just to clarify, this is referring to the names of the template pages. People don't usually see those, but it's probably a good idea to be more descriptive there. I've now changed the names: Template:License Terraria source file and Template:License Terraria screenshot or derivative work. Equazcion (talk) 02:29, 1 Dec 2017 (UTC)
O wow, I wasn't expecting such a fast response and change. Thanks for that. Sorry that I wasn't being clear that I was referring to the Template names. Anyways, the name and description will better fit what Terraria other was intended for when it was made. I'll move the Category:Terraria images other to be consistent with this change. Thanks again Equazcion!– ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 02:36, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
Equaczion, when the Image categorization is completed, could you get the Licenses corrected for all of the images with your bot? It would sure help a lot. Thanks. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 03:11, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

Exclusive2... corruption/crimson?

Do people here think it would it be worthwhile to extend the exclusive/exclusive2 templates, to include items or mobs that require Crimson or Corruption materials/biomes? --MentalMouse42 (talk) 22:29, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

It would be time-consuming, but it may work. We’ll need some other opinions first, though. Also, exclusive2 relies on exclusive, so modifying exclusive would get most of the work done. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 02:23, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
Well, certainly changing the templates themselves would be easy. It's just that then we'd have a new expectation for pages and links to be so-marked, and it would take a while for people to get around to covering all the affected pages. Given that I myself wouldn't be taking responsibility for "mark all the pages" (as usual I'd be updating stuff as I happened to pass a page, or when I was bored), I was asking whether the other heavy editors think it would be worth the trouble of opening that can of herplings. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 15:20, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
One idea I just came up with is that we may be able to add the Corruption and Crimson functionality in one go when we add Expert mode Only functionality (which we’re working on). Once we’ve got Expert mode Only figured out, Crimson and Corruption will be figured out —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 23:20, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
Kind of diagonal to that, it occurred to me that Crimson/Corruption could simply be generalized to "biome". That would also let us mark items with other biome affinities (Jungle, etc) while we're at it, which may be convenient for future inquirers. (For example, people could then sort the List of weapons by biome.) --MentalMouse42 (talk) 16:14, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
The main reason to add Crimson/Corruption is because only one appears per world, making them "exclusive". A message saying "this item is only available in corrupt worlds" would let readers know that a certain item would be impossible to get, but a message saying "this item is available only in the snow biome" is much less helpful. Categorizing items by biome affinity might be handy, but when items are unique to a certain biome, they're usually noted on the biome's content page already. – KM100 (talk) 07:40, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
Fair enough -- I'd been thinking about the infobox data and thought that if item/enemy data got "biome", exclusive/2 could make use of it. But on consideration, that just entangles two template systems, which are currently independent (afaik) and individually quite complex enough. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 09:20, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

Forums page

I started creating a page about the forums. Is it a good idea to continue? You can view what I started here: User:ReedemtheD3ad/Sandbox/Official Terraria ForumsReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 02:17, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

I think this is a great idea, and once we get other opinions, I’d say go ahead. Also, make sure to add a link somehow to the Terraria page before you do so —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 02:26, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the support. I can definitely add a link to the Terraria page. I also have the logo and all of the remaining background images downloaded form the site and to upload here when ready. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 02:33, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
I went ahead and finished the page and added it. (part of it was for testing purposes). I figured that if it is decided it is unneeded, it could always be deleted. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 03:27, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

More editing errors (most likely not Amazon AppstoreAWS) on Userspace

It appears that every time I try to edit my user page, it logs me out. Does anyone know how to fix this? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 18:16, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

New issues

It appears I am having more login errors similar to the one from ~2 months ago. However, upon clearing cookies, it appears it has not fixed the login rejection (when it goes in an infinite loop of Special:Login —> Gamepedia.com/login —> Special:Login etc.) problem. Anyone have a fix?
Awesome diamonds via 172.58.168.74 22:49, 13 December 2017 (UTC)

Nevermind, it appears my autofill was doing it. Unless I forcibly typed my password, only Twitch would recognize the login, not Gamepedia itself, receiving the no-info-given side of the login. Fixed! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 23:17, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
Gamepedia was updating the Login System today so that was what probably caused your issues. I had the same thing until just recently. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 00:52, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
That seems much more likely than an autofill issue, that was probably it. Thanks for the info! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 20:15, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
No problem. I was about to report the issue when I got the information about the login system update. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 18:23, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

Old/New Gen icons

With the release of 1.3 on PS4, I've been brainstorming possible "new gen" and "old gen" icons. I've been thinking about this icon for new gen, but I'm finding it difficult to incorporate the same style into an old gen icon. I've tried making a couple variations, but I'm finding that (a) they're hard to distinguish from the new gen icon, especially at a glance, and (b) they don't properly convey the difference between old and new gens. Ultimately, it's looking like the Terraria tree might not be the best choice for new/old gen icons. Anyone else have any thoughts/ideas? – KM100 (talk) 05:38, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

How about an old joystick controller for an old gen icon? Old-Gen Console onlyReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 17:48, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
I like the idea. I replaced the icon with one that I think matches better with other icons, hope it's still clear what the icon is supposed to be (if not, it can always be reverted). Anyway, that leaves the question of what to use for the new gen icon. – KM100 (talk) 07:40, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
I like the new image you uploaded. Is not the current Console icon going to remain for current console information? – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 18:52, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
Regarding a new-gen icon, one of two changes would have to be made:
  • A new-gen icon would be used to distinguish new-gen and old-gen data (e.g, Terra blade's damage would be listed as "95Tree / 88Old-Gen Console only").
  • Old gen data is left out of the main page and instead left in the history section. (e.g, Terra blade's damage would be listed as "95").
The second choice would make it easier for newer editors/readers to manage, but would also make it harder for people using the old gen to get information. Ultimately, I don't know which one would be better, so it's really up to what other people think should be done. – KM100 (talk) 21:02, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
I was thinking the current console would still be used. Let me show an example. Let us say hypothetically, that the Copper Shortsword's damage was 2 in 1.2, then increased to 3 in 1.3 and then increased again to 4 in 1.3.5. The infobox would look like this:
Copper Shortsword
  • Copper Shortsword item spriteold Copper Shortsword item sprite

ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 18:20, 23 December 2017 (UTC) ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── The thing is, the "One Terraria" project that Re-logic is talking about is aimed to make it so the code between desktop and console (and later mobile) is the entirely the same. Ultimately, there won't be any gameplay differences between desktop/console/mobile, so it'd be quite an odd choice to use multiple different icons in that situation. Obviously, there'll still be some technical differences (like mobile's touchscreen), so desktop/console/mobile icons would still be used occasionally, but in any other case it'd be better to use a single icon to represent new gen. – KM100 (talk) 16:27, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Ok, I understand now what you are getting at. I misunderstood. I will start brainstorming for a new gen icon. Thank you for clarifying for me. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 18:32, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
I uploaded an image for current-gen some time ago. I've placed it in the Icons category. If you want to find a better icon, be my guest :). Using a tree to represent "One Terraria" is an interesting idea, but I'm not sure if wiki users would make the connection. I considered using a joystick for old-gen, but it seemed silly at the time...
Question: Do we need 3 console icons, or just 2? For info that pertains to both old and current-gen console users, should we use 2 icons (a current-gen icon & an old-gen icon), or 1?
Regarding "One Terraria", there will always be a delay between desktop, console, and mobile releases, therefore the various platform icons will continue to be needed.
Many players are still playing Terraria on the old-gen consoles, therefore I would keep their info on the page (and not move it into the History section). – Ferretwings (talk) 02:31, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
I would go with the new and old icons being used separately, even if info pertains to both to reduce confusion (sorry for a bit of a late response) —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 21:07, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Old gen

I have created some Templates in my Sandbox along with an "Old gen content" article in my sandbox. Here are the links: User:ReedemtheD3ad/Sandbox/Old gen content, User:ReedemtheD3ad/Sandbox/Templates/Template:Old gen only Documentation: User:ReedemtheD3ad/Sandbox/Templates/Template:Old gen only/Doc,User:ReedemtheD3ad/Sandbox/Templates/Template:Old gen icon Documentation: User:ReedemtheD3ad/Sandbox/Templates/Template:Old gen icon/Doc, and User:ReedemtheD3ad/Sandbox/Templates/Template:Old gen version. What do you guys think? – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 22:42, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

I think it'd be better to update the Template:T template with old/new gen compatibility rather than using a new template. The other pages looks good, though. – KM100 (talk) 07:40, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
Alright thanks for that. I was thinking about updating Template:T and Template:T already. I know some work has already been done. Maybe Awesome_Diamonds could help out as well. I think I'll start implementing some things for preparation. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 19:00, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
I can definitely help out with this splitting project. I have moved all pages pertaining to Old-gen consoles to have a hyphen in the title for consistency, just wanted to give everyone a heads-up. Also, does this mean Exclusive2 should also lose console capability, or should the console param become a redirect to current-gen? Currently I'm in favor of having console=y redirect to current-gen=y, but I need more opinions first —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 20:12, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for helping out! The moves are fine. I agree that the current console usage should continue to be what is most new and current with the old consoles being in their own special category. I even think keeping the Console version controller icon for new and current content is best with Old-gen console version being used for the older stuff. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 18:12, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the opinion, and no problem for helping out :).
I'll just quickly take notes of what I need to do with the exclusive templates
  • Add old-gen to exclusive2, eicons, and eversions
  • Probably remove current-gen param or more probably redirect it on exclusive
  • Add old-gen to allversions template or ask admin if protected
  • Merge icons somehow
ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 21:02, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Of course, I would do these after 1.3 releases on XBox One, though. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 22:44, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
And also one more note: since 3DS varies a little from Old-gen (like lacking a lot of 1.2+ content), old-gen will be incorporated separately to 3DS in exclusive. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 18:52, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

That is fine, I have known from the beginning that the 3DS version has to be treated separately. It is still just figuring out how to exactly separate it after the mobile 1.3 release because it will be the only one with the mobile only content after that. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 18:12, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

Icon

I noticed that Ferretwings made a cool icon template which makes specified icons (named in parameter 1). I like the idea of it being a standard icon that can be used, and I would be fine with converting the icon templates into one (like how we have been doing with converting Only templates to Exclusive), but I'm open to feedback and reasons why not. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 03:43, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

It is still in its infancy, lol. I'm tinkering with it now, and will add more icons. – Ferretwings (talk) 02:34, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

New boss battle

Have an idea for a boss battle with 3 giant worms.1 worm is made out of armored flesh, 2nd is made out of metal and has eye lasers, and the 3rd worm is made out of gold, and has lasers, and breaths fire, and has a meteor attack. 173.23.96.141 04:55, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

You do realize this is a wiki? We are Terraria players, just like you. I suggest you post your game ideas in the Community Forums. – Ferretwings (talk) 05:09, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
