Not to be confused with Truffle Worm, Shrimpy Truffle, or Scaly Truffle.

The Truffle is a Hardmode NPC vendor who sells various Mushroom-themed items, including the Autohammer. To get the Truffle to move in, there must be a vacant House in (or near) a Surface Glowing Mushroom Biome (i.e. one that is above 0 elevation). Surface Glowing Mushroom biomes do not generate naturally and therefore must be manually created. 100 blocks of Mushroom grass and Mushroom plants are required to create a Glowing Mushroom biome.[1]

When threatened by enemies on the PC version PC version, Console version Console version, Mobile version Mobile version, Old Chinese version Old Chinese version, tModLoader version tModLoader version, and tModLoader 1 tModLoader 1.3-Legacy version, the Truffle will release Truffle Spore Mushroom Spores, which hover in air and deal 10 damage.

What are the requirements for the Truffle to move into a house in Terraria? toggle section
In Terraria, the Truffle, also known as the shroomite NPC, has specific requirements for the house it can move into. The house must be located in a Surface Glowing Mushroom biome, which refers to any house built above 0 elevation. This could be a Glowing Mushroom biome in Space or one near sea level. The house should also have at least 100 tiles of Glowing Mushroom biome blocks in the area around it. If there's too much Corruption or Crimson beneath the house, it may invalidate the housing. The Truffle can be relocated to a different house as long as the new house is also in a Glowing Mushroom biome. If the Truffle dies or the surface Glowing Mushroom biome is destroyed, these steps must be repeated.

How can a Surface Glowing Mushroom Biome be created in Terraria? toggle section
In Terraria, a Surface Glowing Mushroom Biome can be created by the player. This process involves placing 100 mushroom-related tiles. Once these tiles are placed, the biome background will appear, showcasing towering mushrooms. The biome reaches its full effect when it contains 160 mushroom-related tiles, at which point the sky will darken. It's important to note that this biome does not generate naturally and must be manually created by the player. The Truffle NPC, who sells mushroom-themed items, requires a house in this biome to spawn.

What is the role of Mushroom grass and Mushroom plants in creating a Glowing Mushroom biome? toggle section
Mushroom grass and Mushroom plants play a crucial role in creating a Glowing Mushroom biome in Terraria. The biome is characterized by Mushroom grass, Glowing Mushrooms, and Giant Glowing Mushrooms growing on Mud Blocks. The grass and plants in this biome emit a vibrant blue glow, making it quite distinctive. The Mushroom grass provides more blocks for the biome to spread to, accelerating the process of creating the biome. Glowing Mushrooms can grow inside the gaps formed by the Mushroom grass, contributing to the overall growth and development of the biome.

Notes[]

  • If other NPCs are waiting to move in, they may move into a Glowing Mushroom biome home before the Truffle can. When attempting to spawn the Truffle, try to make sure enough Houses exist for other NPCs that have not yet spawned.
  • Having too much Corruption or Crimson beneath the house may invalidate the housing.
  • For the Truffle to move in, the house must be in a Surface Glowing Mushroom biome. Note that this is not restricted to the Surface layer, but instead refers to any house built above 0 elevation -- a Glowing Mushroom biome in Space will work just as well as one near sea level.
  • The Truffle can be relocated to a different house as long as the new house is also in a Glowing Mushroom biome. Trying to move him to an invalid house will give the error message, "This housing does not meet the requirements for a Truffle".
  • The Truffle can stay in a house after the surface Glowing Mushroom biome is destroyed. This can be exploited by creating a Glowing Mushroom biome near all of the other houses and NPCs, having him moved in, then destroying the corresponding Glowing Mushroom biome blocks, therefore having all of your NPCs in one place outside of a Glowing Mushroom biome.
    • This method doesn't work to relocate him underground, you need to make him a house near a mushroom biome in the surface then destroy it and leave him find an other house for that. Additionally, if the Truffle dies, this must be redone.
  • The Truffle is male and has a chance to be teleported by a King Statue.
  • Despite his requirement to live in a surface Glowing Mushroom biome, the Truffle can sell other pylons due to hybrid biomes. The exception to this are the Forest and Cavern pylons, which are mutually exclusive and only available when not within one of the other biomes.
  • The Truffle has arguably the second-most powerful attack of all the NPC's, beaten out only by the Princess.
